- Let's explore Snowdonia's Moel Siabod via Daear Ddu ridge. This grade 1- route is often touted as suitable for scrambling novices but how challenging is it?

Lovely one, thank you. Didn't know about this one. Stacking up a few satisfying grade1 routes for when i and my niece head up there next June at the end of her first year at Uni. She would be a novice scrambler, always doubts herself but super-fit and agile so trying show her what she can accomplish, for her self-esteem. Already thinking start on False Gribbin and then get onto the good part of the Gribbin Ridge, top out and descend.
Have often done the Southern Ridge Circuit on the Carneddau in bad weather for something to do but think it is also great to do with novice scramblers in good weather -views, elevation, some hands on rock, safe etc.
Further south, Cadair Idris, there is a very similar grade 1- scramble, setting off from the A487 at Minffordd, taking the .... Minffordd path upto the lake and then up and around, on a forgiving ridge up to the summit. Again, great views, very satisfying and safe. Cheers.
Nice to see you back, Daniel. I did this route but with the ridge line descent when I was in Snowdonia back in September.
An important thing to note is that while the scrambling is indeed suitable for novices, navigation can be challenging in misty conditions, in both gaining the Daear Ddu Ridge and in getting off the broad summit plateau. Having someone in your party with at least basic ability in using a map and compass is a must in such a situation. Best regards, Carl.
I love your videos, thanks for making them! I blooming love Snowdonia! 🏴
Agree that its a great introduction to scrambling. Took my wife up there and she loved it and coped no problem. Especially keeping away from the right edge all the way.
Been thinking about a route to get my kids into scrambling, and I'd completely forgotten about this one.... it's ideal! Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for showing this. I'm not really a scrambler, but I've fancied this route for a while and wondered what it was like. I've done Striding edge a few times but I'm never really happy up there. This route looks good though so I'll definitely have a go at it now. Cheers. 😁
Great video Daniel, I’m going to give this route a go before I tackle try-fan, looks like a great training route.
Although not in the same area, Halls Fell Ridge on Blencathra is perfect for first timers.
Spooky. My daughter and me did this route the week before you filmed this. We chose it because it had been wet and figured it would be a safer bet than Trfyan or some of the gully routes I had in mind. Yes, I'd say a good route for novices. We came down by the same route that you took. Have to say we found that harder on the legs that the route up! Very boulder strewn and and very path-esque. Fun route and some great views from the top. Very windy when we there there too.
Tryfan is for the nore experienced scrambler really.
Tryfan South Ridge ?In the area you mentioned?! Could be..
