I am in Texas in the US and I have a small group of L134s (4) that I am growing out and hope to eventually breed. I have mine in a big tank with some Venezuelan Black Cory’s and a couple of young gold marble angels. I have caves worked in among the root like branches of some Spiderwood and rocks so the caves look like they are naturally occurring. The tank is also well planted from mid to back with a large red dwarf Lily in the middle of the tank and in the front of the tank is a sandy beach. My L134s were shy at first, but once they got bigger (they are almost full grown and about the same size as my Cory’s) the L134s started coming out regularly during the day and even hanging and eating with the Cory’s. They also are no longer skittish when you walk up to the tank, especially my dominant male L134. I have even been able to hand feed the L134s off of tweezers. I think my L134s are much more social than any of my other plecos. Right now I also have some super reds and regular bristlenose in other tanks. I think plecos do best when you have some dither fish in with them. It makes them feel safer. I also put some mid-size shells in the tank to buffer the water a bit and I have found my plecos use the shells much like caves. I have one small L134 baby that I just got from another breeder in another tank and I added a shell in for him along with a small cave. He liked the shell best, and has made it home for now. I also have Venezuelan Red Sail or Oranges, Sterbai, and Eversi corys, some chili rasboras, Florida Flag Fish, a big tank of mutt guppies, several types of male bettas, blue dream shrimp in 2 of my tanks, and rams horn and trumpet snails. My Venezuelan Cory’s are nice groups and I have gotten babies from both of them. The Sterbai and Eversi are all old and it has been a good while since they have spawned. Two of my Sterbai’s are almost 15 years old and the Eversi’s are about 10 years old. My one regular bristlenose is from one of my spawns from about 12 years ago, so she is getting up in age too. My super reds are all young, but I have only females as I don’t want to breed bristlenose. Bristlenose are easy to get in the US, so no need to spawn them. I would love to try spawning my chili rasboras, but it is a young group, so I haven’t tried it yet. They are in my tank with my Venezuelan Oranges that are producing babies. I love your fish room. I have tanks in different rooms in my house and my tanks range in size from 5 gallons to 40 gallons. You have a lovely setup.
Wow! This sounds so amazing 🤩 I’m really looking forward to my L134s growing up and getting a little more adventurous. I have some guppies above them now but once my guppie tanks are up and going I think I’ll get some tetras in there. I have some black Venezuelan growing up too and can’t wait to get them spawning. Thank you for watching and subscribing 😍 definitely send any updates my way as I love hearing about what everyone is doing.
New from the US. Just curious as to what L number are the peppermint plecos? I've been looking into them for about a year. but everyone here is calling 181 an 183 peppermints. Awesome setup.
Welcome! That’s a great question. There are a few reported L numbers for peppermint bristlenose. The ones we have in Australia are either L071, L181, L249 or a cross of these. I am not sure if anyone actually knows. These 3 L’s are the same species or extremely similar from the same area in the lower Amazon. The difference between the L181 and L183 is the L181 and the others seen here is the white stripe on the fin will disappear with age and the L183 it will not disappear.
So I keep my breeding pairs in 2ft, roughly 70lt which is about the same as a 20 gallon high. I have grown out bristlenose in these tanks with the parents but you need to do heaps of water changes to ensure water quality so if your just starting out I recommend taking the babies out into a grow out of the same size or bigger. 😁
Great Fishroom Nat 👍 Mr Finfinity has done a great job on the racks
👍🏻👍🏻
I'd love more cory breeding videos.
Noted! More to come

Great video. Do you sell your fish that you breed at some point ?
Yes I do, mostly to LFS, at clubs and to wholesale :)
@Finfinity_au great do you private sale pick ups?
What size or volume of tanks do you recommend for Plecos?
