Thank you for keeping up with Jimi. He's got a deep, deep catalogue for such a short professional career and it's all good. And thank you for doing the studio version.
@Rekeza That's in the frame, that's for sure. There's also a great version from the Winterland box set, which was also released a couple of decades earlier on the Jimi Hendrix Concerts double LP.
@@davescurry69 I guess it's safe to say any and every version Jimi did of Hear My Train is great, I havent heard the Winterland one before but I do like it, especially that bass tone. I'll always be biased to the guitar tone and solo on the Olympic Studios version, but the man can do no wrong with this song
@Rekeza I'm pretty sure that Winterland version was one of the earliest recorded renditions of the song, if not the earliest. There was almost no response from the audience when he announced the song prior to playing it, adding it was "nothing but a jam again".
After some legal stuff got settled, he's had a ton of posthumous albums. I'd highly recommend Blues, South Saturn Delta, and Both Sides of the Sky. A lot of this stuff is a mix of live, home studio, and unreleased stuff.
BEST VERSION HANDS DOWN IS FROM Rainbow Bridge - Jimi’s most coherant, hippiefied, psychedelic, and well thought out. This vetsion shows some chops, but you can’t best the Rainbow Bridge album version on. Train.
Jimi had 3 studio albums before his death Are You Experienced Axis Bold As Love Electric Ladyland (a double album) Band of Gypsies was recorded live with his new band. Released before Jimi's death.
Jimi was so nasty and filthy that it was beautiful. He resides in a realm of music that is all his own. To really understand why Hendrix is *Hendrix,* it is necessary to, at least listen to, if not watch video of, him performing live. He was a world class lyricist and songwriter. But, his guitar playing was and still is without a parallel today, almost 57 years later. And to see him effortlessly put it all together as no one else ever before or since, is the only way to understand his unbelievable talent.
Next, how about 'Hey Baby(New Rising Sun', 'Dolly Dagger', 'Earth Blues', 'Pali Gap', and 'Look Over Yonder' from the 'Rainbow Bridge' album, and 'Stars That Play with Laughing Sam's Dice' from early on in his career. Fantastic stuff ahead, man. Please continue, keep on keeping on. 🙏🏽😊🤙🏼🌈 🌉🎸🎶❤️✨️🕊
@Hapmorii I omitted 'Room Full of Mirrors', not a fave, personally. Love 'Burning Desire' from 'Loose Ends', and the solo guitar track for 'Electric Ladyland'. >sigh
You really need to hear Voodoo Chile, track 4 on Electric Ladyland. It's a 15 minute, live in studio, blues jam. Really it's more than that. It features Steve Winwood on keyboards and some killer interplay between him and Jimi.
Absolutely!! Possibly my favourite Jimi, with Steve and him trading licks and duelling! Steve on keys! and the first and last of the Space age bluesman on the Strat! Just Incredible!!...
As a guitarist, I've been listening to Jimi since I was 15 years old. I'm 61 now. First time hearing this version. How he's able to control that level of distortion, feedback and slip in and out of tonal ranges is mystifying. Additionally, the complexities of some of the guitar phrasing he uses in this version, is on par with any of the great classical composers. I think I have a favorite version now, thanks for posting this!
I'm a subscriber because I love your priceless tangents, not only are they funny, but they're deep. You're one smart cookie, Mr. Bizmatic! Anyway, I'm also a Hendrix fanatic. For a next Hendrix tune, I recommend "Hey Baby" off the "Rainbow Bridge" album. I also recommend Pali Gap off the same album. And if you ever want to do an entire album, I recommend Jimi's first album, "Are You Experienced." When I first listened to it back in 1975, 7 years after it's release, I was completely blown away. Never before and never since has an album shocked and shaken my world like that one.
Another great, great song is "Burning Desire" off the "Loose Ends" album. The guitar work on that song, is as good as anything I've ever heard from Jimi.@@mr.goodenough3796
I remind younger folks that Jimi was playing guitar in the late 1960s. We hadn't quite heard anything like this at the time. It was a mix of the best blues and rock guitar...with a whole lot of Jimi's innovation added into the mix.
Imagine thinking the Beatles were revolutionary and then Jimi came along he was 30 years ahead of them literally he inspired hard rock later blues rock funk and even hip hop
People can talk all they want about Stevie Ray Vaughan (and I do love his music), but every time I listen to Hendrix, I remember exactly why he remains the GOAT. There are many extremely talented guitar players, and Stevie ranks them all...BUT ONE. Jimi will always be the GOAT.
Thank you man, this is my favorite version of this song and it´s been a while without listening it.I had the posthumous LP called Midnight lightnin´ with this one and Machine gun inside. The opening tune was Jimi´s take on Blue suede shoes.Amazing!
Biz, you're a musical connoisseur and I love that you aren't afraid to tackle all styles of music. You may even have an eclectic taste for music in general. I know I do and I sense it from you. Thanks a bunch! Great review
My brother and I used top play this over and over lol. everytime we heard the local train coming we'd sing the hook line out loud and crack each other up.
Man, you must check out "Voodoo Chile" from ELECTRICLADYLAND. Side 1, Track number 4. Or maybe "I Don't Live Today" or "Manic Depression" from ARE YOU EXPERIENCED, or even "Bold As Love" and "Spanish Castle Magic" from AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE.
The greatest version ever in my not so humble opinion Jimi did in Berkeley 1970 I never heard Guitar playing like that song it’s just outrageous, this one’s great but it doesn’t come close!
Some of these versions used to be available only on bootlegs. Obviously Hendrix life cut too short. He didnt like the town he grew up in. He wasnt popular, so he wrote this tune. This cut very influential on other young guitarists of the era. Rooted in the blues but its also got his psychedelic acid stamp. One guitarist particularly influenced was Eddie Hazel. He was a young guitarist who played with Bernie Worrel and George clinton, and later Bootsy. I think the Bizmatic channel did one tune of their tunes from the record "maggot brain" Thats a very fine record. They have several fabulous records that kind of flew under the radar, but definitely have the acid rock component. They took Hendrix back into the black community and did it their way. Then Hazel too died of drugs. Hendrix was a brief spark but he did his thang, and he lives on in music. Going to be 60 in 17 days. Broke down Bman with a pink tractor made in1974 and a dog. Never been happier cause Im doing my thang. Do your thang- it's the key to life. ua-cam.com/video/CqDGTT2OtsQ/v-deo.html

I get totally and deeply lost in Jimi's music. Nothing but those dulcet tones matter.
