""What Child Is This?" is a popular Christmas carol written in 1865. At the age of twenty-nine, English writer William Chatterton Dix was struck with a sudden near-fatal illness and confined to bedrest for several months, during which he went into a deep depression. Yet out of his near-death experience, Dix wrote many hymns, including "What Child is This?", later set to the traditional English tune "Greensleeves"". -from en.wikipedia.or...
I'm on the bus listening to this and the Holy Spirit touched me and brought tears of joy to my heart! So beautiful! Christ is Lord!
Such a beautiful holy song of the Lord Jesus Christ
Blessed is the womb that bear Jesus our God but more blessed is Jesus the precious Holy Lamb that died for us. To God all the Glory and Worship forever and ever Amen
I've never heard a sweeter rendition of such a tender piece.
I know, right!
I was born in the late very late Autumn of 1978. This is one of my favorite Christmas Carols since I was three!
For me, Midnight Mass is the most powerful and spiritually moving. This song is always sang at my parish. This song and O Holy Night always make me choke up because they both remind me just how awesome our Lord is. At midnight Mass we not only remember how God became flesh and dwelt among us, but also receive the precious gift of the Eucharist. There are some days like today that I just need that spiritual lift and you gave it to me. Thank you :-)
I agree with you about Midnight Mass. I live an active life, and with all the events I attend throughout the year, nothing compares to Midnight Mass as I look forward to it every year.
Midnight Mass is downright divine. Nothing gets to me like singing my lungs out during the “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” because I feel like I’m singing with the angelic hosts in heaven.
For me Midnight Mass is 2nd only to the Easter Vigil Mass.
2024, this song giving me peace to my heart
After living for nearly 60 Christmases I can not EVER recall hearing this stanza:
" Nails and spear shall pierce Him through
The cross be born for me, for you
Hail, hail, the Word made flesh
The Babe, the Son of Mary "
That's because their singing the original one made in the 19th century. Original versions of a lot of the hymns and prayers are generally a little more "violent and vulgar". People back then weren't as concerned about niceness.
Because they are seeing the full hymn...not just the first verse. And I think it is even MORE moving with the full story. Why is Jesus important!? This is why.
can you explain "Hail, Hail, the Word made flesh", I'm too young to understand
It's a reference to the prologue of the Gospel of John
Phạm Nguyên It’s a reference to Jesus, as he is the Word if God made flesh, or human.
This beautiful and classic Christmas carol is one of my favorites! This is the best version ever! Thank you for posting and sharing this with the lyrics! I love it!
This is by far the best rendition I’ve ever heard. I love this song. It is my favorite Christmas song, though “God arrest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” is up there.
I've never heard this version before, and I LOVE it!
All I've ever heard after each verse is:
"This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary."
This is far more meaningful.

Great video..Thanks for posting with lyrics....Choir sounds amazing..
Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing with me.
Amazing! It gives me goosebumps!
Amen. The glory of the lord can be seen through this song. Unfortunately the picture is pagan.
Heavenly
I feel this Christmas carol gets overlooked, because it shares the same tune with the well-known 'Greensleeves', which is a real shame. It's a wonderful carol, and for me Greensleeves can be listened / sung to all year round, while this wonderful carol can be listened / sung throughout Advent and Christmas. 🎼👏🏾🌟❤🙏🏾
Just LOVE this more than any other video!
An excellent Processional of Annunciation (Leviticus 23:23-25 KJV).

This to me seams like a tender chicken nugget
GOD IS BORN in a barn!!!
I always though catholic imagery was so creepy.. that song is also very unsettling to me, despite being so beautiful. Note that I'm not trying to offend anyone here, i just telling how i feel about it, i love all my Christian brothers and sisters
The Devil is what's so creepy to you. God deals with the creepy Devil for your salvation.
@@josephboyat-bt1jf Says the person that thinks worshipping a statue will get them to heaven
im ngl i used to think that too, then i began my conversion process and the creepy imagery became so beautiful to me.
statues as a reminder of our faith, crucifixes as a reminder of Jesus' never ending love for us, churches decorded so beautifully FOR God, solemn hymns about the life of Jesus and His Mother, etc.
Catholicism is an art form, and like any piece of art, it's not for everyone, which is okay!!
Where is it?
This sounds Dark and Creepy.I like it!
PANYHK Appereciated, but it’s supposed to be solemn rather than creepy or dark
Fever, fever, fever at night
... the babe, the Son of Mary.

😮🎉❤😢😅😊😂
😅
It is mirth, not myyrh.
Beg to differ with you, BUT one of the three Wise Men who came to visit baby Jesus was bringing myrrh, NOT mirth !! Myrrh is a plant growing in Arabia & East Africa used for making incense or perfume. Grab a dictionary and look it up OR Google it !!
well why can't he bring BOTH? it was christ's birth after all.
It's myrrh. Mirth is synonym for cheerfulness so it wouldn't make sense bringing that for a gift. Since you can't touch it.
