Matthew 7:7 is my bible verse. I sought for God to reveal himself when I was an athiest and hated my life. I only wanted to know truth and the purpose and meaning to my life and glory to God for bringing me to Jesus and surrendering my life for him and in return He has given me everything that is good that I could ever want!

Now this is truth, biblical truth. Thank you so much because I was almost deceived into believing if I just, because of my faith, can expect my mother will heal from cancer, then I would set myself on God’s throne. I pray every day and ask the Lord for my mothers healing, but he decides if it’s going to happen.

I don’t ask for much but when I do I always tell the Lord “if it be your will.” If it’s outside God’s will He won’t grant it and I accept that.

Its not about asking what we want, its about the Holy spirit

Exactly. They need to look at Luke 11:1-13, but especially verse 13.
It’s similar to what they’re talking about in Mathew but only luke explains it’s in relation to asking for the holy spirit. 🙏🕊🕊🕊

I heard this verse during a Church service, I came home and randomly opened my Bible without a thought and pointed my finger randomly and it landed EXACTLY on this verse. I believe God answered me of asking to seek more of Him by letting this happen.

Thank you Todd Wagner n Adam for an useful n very important topic in this session. I have a question some of prayers are got answered but for small needs I don't know why God is not fulfilling my large requirements instead of small. If my big request(like searching for good job) is fulfilled then definitely my small request will be done. I know tat God has his own time line to fulfill it. But still having a doubt in my mind. How can I answer to my mind. Can you answer this question please.

My wife has multiple sclerosis. She can't walk. We struggle terribly financially. We arent asking Him to be a "genie in a bottle", or to give us things children wouldnt ask their earthly parents for, if they could help: for her to walk, and for us to no longer struggle financially. Is this "outside His will"? Jesus said, "Ask anything in my name and I will do it that the Father may be glorified." Ok. We've been doing that. For years.
"Asking, and receiving; seeking, and finding; knocking, and having the door opened to me by our heavenly Father, because 'what man would give his son a stone who asks for a loaf of bread? How much more your heavenly Father wants to give good things to those who ask", hasn't been my experience, our experience, at all. Not even close. Why must we beg...our heavenly Father?!!! Why?
If Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, with all His faith, could cry out, "My God, why have you abandoned me", then why can't I?

I know I am just a total stranger and it's hard to say something to a person who is really suffering.
It may sound weird and mean, but God doesn't promise never ending health and prosperity. He doesn't shelter people from all illnesses or all the suffering in the world.
Paul writes about his personal suffering :
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
      2 Corinthians 12:7‭-‬10 NIV.
And another thing. It's true that jesus shouted those words when he died. But another thing he did was quoting scripture at any time and place. In the 40 day temptation with Satan? Quoting. Talking with the pharisees, quoting or taking an idea from scripture.
Now go and read psalm 22. Jesus is quoting it. It's written by David, but it's a prophetic and messianic psalm, revealing what will come and has come with jesus.

Your situation is not to be overlooked and it is a difficult one indeed. But please allow me to provide a couple of verses, that I have understood to help during my time of struggles when my mom had breast cancer and my dad could not work taking care of her (I was 15 years old). We still struggle today check to check, but happy to be alive. Yes, we arent living the expensive life, but just knowing we wake up and experience the creation of God is enough.
The ultimate gift is salvation. The Bible tells us to "rejoice in our suffering" Romans 5:3-5.
      2 corinthians 4:17-18
"For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever."
      2 Corinthians 4:17‭-‬18 NLT
If you have a shelter and food on the table you are blessed.
We are not exempt from suffering. All the Apostles died in horendous ways except 1 of them. But they all knew that they were to be martyrs of the Word of God. They never had it all together, in fact they were constantly suffering, but managed to be joyful through the struggle which is what God promises if we continuously seek Him. I encourage you to look at your situation in a different way, and know this is a temporary thing, because for us Christians, this is already Hell for us since Heaven is our true home, and for non-believers this is their heaven, since their hell is well, hell.
      Stay strong my brother!

The point is that it will glorify God. Our purpose is to glorify God. What’s the point of asking for something of this world for own selfish desire when we know that will only bring us momentary satisfaction?

Jason Smith Good question! This is something that has crossed my mind once before as well. My understanding is that our asking must be “aligned” with God’s will. Not that he has necessarily willed every single aspect of our lives. For example, it was in God’s will for Solomon to be king. Solomon asked for wisdom in his role as king. Now would Solomon have been the wisest king to ever live if he had not asked? Probably not. And this is just my belief. But because what he asked was aligned with God’s will for his life, it was granted to him.
I hope this brings a little clarity. And again, this is just how I’ve come to understand it. But don’t take anyone’s word for it. Pray and ask for understanding in this. He will give it to you. This is actually another example of asking in alignment with God’s will. His will is for you to know these things. But if you don’t ask, you’ve activated YOUR free will to not seek knowledge and understanding from Him.

Again...Let's not forget CONTEXT here! This is Jesus Sermon on the Mount. He has just told them not to be critical of others, be genuine and not a hypocrite, and then He says "Ask, seek, and knock." It seems very apparent He is telling us to ask for help getting the beam out of your own eye first so you can be a genuine help to those around you and not be so hypocritical. If you do, it will be given. Isn't God good, He asks. Of course, so He gives them the Golden Rule - so be to others like you would want them to be with you - Not critical or judgmental, but helpful in your daily walk with Christ. Seems much simpler than we make this out to be.

He is not talking only about Paul writings, but of all the Scriptures:
"And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they also do with THE REST OF THE SCRIPTURES" 2 Peter 3:15-16
