We love the reminder to start with the big shapes first and progressively refining the image- that's such an important principle, and even the most experienced artists need a reminder to start general and get more specific as you go! Sorry to hear you're sore- it's just all too easy to ignore what the body tells us it needs when we're overloaded with work. The thing about taking a break is there's a part of the brain that's still engaged in making art, and those ideas will still simmering away in there until you're ready!

Ok….I’ve just finished watching…haha, you’re so funny!! Diapers for plein air painting…I can see the mass rush to Blick now. The endorsement potential: “Sandi Hester Painting Panties” or you could call them the “Painties”. It has a ring to it don’t you think?!! I hope you didn’t end up getting sick.

'Talens' is a company from the Netherlands that makes art supllies. Amongst other things (like your Art Creations Sketchbooks) they make 'plakkaatverf'. 'Plakkaat' is an old fashioned Dutch word for 'poster' and 'verf' means 'paint'. So: poster paint. Most artists and designers in the Netherlands would use the French word 'gouache' for that nowadays. It's probably on it to indicate that it's the sort of gouache that designers prefer. (Opaque) Some artists prefer a more transparent gouache that helps them to make gradients.

I saw that your new Birds course is live - I will be buying that this week coming when I get paid, I have a love of drawing and painting birds so I cannot wait to join the class. I also hope that your wrist has healed. I once had RSI in my wrist (as a trainee accountant of all things, filling in pages upon pages of numbers) and it was not fun. Hello, I have been a subscriber for a little while but I have just recently been able to go back and watch some of your older video's. I love your video's but this one sealed the deal. (You are my people). I love that your so honest about everything. My sister and I forget the simplest words and have to run home and pray we make it. Those period pads are a great idea. Love that bag! 😉 Glad to see a 5 million years long video from you. Please make more. Would love to just see you work, no editing, no anything… Last two weekends we went to the lake up in the mountains (Pinecrest Lake, California). Beautiful scenery! Thought about you and your outings. I hauled some art supplies with me since I wanted to do some sketching. The spot we landed on (we actually took a boat to a more remote area of the lake) was a bit tight in the sense that there was a bunch of vegetation and trees all around me offering only small windows to look through at the landscape beyond. I thought about some of your on location plen air paintings and how much I enjoyed the big, in your face, kind of trees and things. So I used the opportunity the location provided for me and sketched a couple of pieces that I absolutely love. I hope to turn those into larger paintings one of these days. Took plenty of photos to reference later, but nothing beats doing the actual sketches on location. As always, you’re an inspiration and a muse.

Take the time to heal. I recently had a sick break when I got a cold that just laid me out. Took 3 weeks to even start to feel a bit better. Guess I needed a break. I don't think people understand how much time it takes to edit. Anyway, you kept me company while rewrapping my handmade watercolour as I'm relaunching them under a different brand.
Yes, unless you edit you don’t know - it’s quite a lot of work
I LOVE the Royal Talens Gouache - especially that olive color, it's one of my go-tos!I I have several colors in that brand and have been very happy with them. As always Sandi, thanks for the inspiration!

For your DS sticks I’d make a swatch on a circle or rectangle sticker and just stick that on the outside of the stick. You can write on the sticker the info you need or maybe just the color will do.

Loving your new location at the pond ,ducks especially fun. Take time off no worries here. We all want a happy healthy Sandi and self care is part of an artist's life. Also just had a quick look at my dark blue pencils and think Derwents Inktense Peacock Blue 0820 might be a close colour match for your replacement pencil or a little darker Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Indanthrene blue 247 could work. They are both watercolour pencils so really nice wet coverage. Take care

I loved this video!!!!! OMG talk about suffering for your art = period panties 😂 or "Depends"......the purple shirt and slip ups from being tired and the sheer tenacity of forcing yourself outside despite the heat, sun, bums and basically everything. I've been taking a plein air class and holy moly is it a challenge of unintended consequences! Less is more. Glad you figured out the supplies edit. I too bring the kitchen sink only to use 3 things. BTW I grew out my greys after seeing your vids 😍

I haven’t done artwork in my car…outside of some coloring work with color pencils, here and there while riding along on a trip. But with the heatwaves we’ve got these days, and the inability to tolerate the high heat (me ✋)or just danger being in high heat, it sounds like a great idea as long as your car doesn’t overheat while sitting still with the AC running…for an extended period. I think the cooling systems of newer model cars can deal with it….I assume you’re leaving the engine on? And NO BUGS, no sweating, lots of privacy. Nice!

Enjoy your art process. It’s blazing hot where I live too. I have a set up for my car that I just haven’t used yet. Time for me to use it. Sometimes I sit in my car after work to “decompress”. Adding art at that time may better help the end of my crazy work day.
Please do have a break Sandi. I really must be inspired to grab a few minutes here and there to sketch. I've been moving house and the new studio is a mess of boxes, my dad just passed away as well and I've only managed to do one sketch in the past couple of weeks.Your sketches are always inspiring...love the ones with the geese.

Take as much as you need. Have you tried to use your non dominant hand with the mouse? It’s good for your brain. It does take longer because your brain is building synapses. But take the Tim off anyway, because you need it! Big hugs!
