Painting For An Hour Every Day ✨ · Trying to Balance Making Art, Work, Life and Motherhood

- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- I spent a week trying to make art for at least an hour every day. I did some portrait sketching practice, portrait painting in gouache, landscape painting and more. All while getting on with working from home, being productive and looking after a baby. Watch to see how I got on!

Here's a flower for reading all this 🌼 You're amazing!
Congratulations on ten years! I have followed you almost the whole time and enjoyed every video. Don’t worry about the sound of the baby monitor, it is just background white noise. Much better than other people’s background music. Your little one is beautiful, enjoy it as much as possibly. The naps will get shorter and then they are off to school😉. Motherhood does limit art time but will bring more depth to your life and art.
Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
I don’t usually post comments but I really wanted to say that the fact that you are even able to make time to dedicate to your art while having a baby is a success in itself. As a mother you are juggling many hats at the moment and you should give yourself grace. I feel like you are in such a good position as there aren’t many if any art and mom business channels it’s something many moms are seeking and I think you have the potential to really fill in the gap. Yes you may feel rusty but you are showing up and that in itself is an achievement. You are doing great mama and keep going you can do this.
Portrait idea! I loved seeing Thierry laying next to the orange tree and thought that would be pretty as a painting.
The sound is fine. It’s actually relaxing.
I'm happy too think so 😁
I'm 20 weeks pregnant and seeing you make progress with your work while caring for your little one is really inspiring. I appreciate you being honest that doing art everyday during naptime isn't the best. It's good to reflect on the balance of things. I work from home, and I always wonder what will work be like once I have my baby.
I think it's different for everyone and things are constantly changing too. The only real thing I can recommend is being flexible and having realistic expectations about what you'll be able to do. You will figure it out though 😊 congratulations on your little one 💛
Hi! I was so happy seeing your videos again. I've been watching for about 4 or 5 years now and have always appreciated your content a lot. I would personally be interested in a video about your favourite books!
My mind is blown by how amazing you are doing! 😅 it is inspiring
P.s. the nails 💅🏽 ❤
Would love to have a video about the books you read! And lovely to see you paint again, your style is so wonderful
Oh Minnie! Im so happy seeing you post again. Your 30 days of sketchbook ideas back in the day inspired me so much. It showed me the discipline needed to shown up for my art. I even started my own UA-cam channel because of you, and i am doing a 100 heads challenge currently. 😊 If i haven’t said it before, thank you so much for being you and showing your work! 🎉❤
That's so cool! Best of luck with the 100 Heads!
@ thank you so much! ☺️ im on head number 26!
Oh my goodness it was so real when you were like, I should have thought about what to paint before I sat down with this limited time... that is me all the time! lol I am good with the baby monitor noise and the ups and downs and hearing you talk out your process of how you will work around your little one. I appreciate the effort and work it takes to always have a child in the back of your mind and on your heart and how important that is at the same time as doing other important things. Its relatable, soothing even, to know I am not alone in my experience of making art and having children.
Congratulations on making ten years here on UA-cam. I remember following you after watching the video on different kinds of sketchbooks and seen you transform your room at your mom’s house. I have a baby at the same age and I’m juggling a whole lot with her. But I know this is temporary. Enjoyed the video so much. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
Thank you so much 😊
minnie! as an artist and part-time library worker, i can promise you you do not bother local librarians when you request a book from another library! not only is it very common, but gives us work to do 😆 request away!
This is so good, congratulations on 10 whole years ☺
So glad to see you posting again and doing so well. That walk is so important, take your sketch book the ducks will distract him❤
Congratulations on 10 years on UA-cam. I have followed you for a long time. You are doing a fantastic time of figuring out how to balance your life with a baby & fit your art in. Beautiful art too. Your daughter is Adorable. Enjoy all of this time in your life.
I just LOVE this kind of content. Showcasing how being a momma has changed the way (and amount) you can work is REAL and I can relate. When she woke up from her nap while you were doing art….. your reaction… I have felt that many times 🤣 Your art is beautiful and showing how you can be an amazing mom and still be an artist is so awesome. This will inspire a lot of moms out there ❤
My youngest daughter is 9, so I've been watching you for 9 years. I know exactly what you're going through trying to juggle it all. No worries! Things get better as they get older, and you'll make it happen as she gets older. Welcome to motherhood. Enjoy it! They grow up fast. My eldest daughter is 18 and leaving home in a few months. God bless!🙏🙏
Thank you 😊💛
I gasped at how beautiful those purple tones were when you started painting the aubergine.
Hi Minnie , it’s so lovely to see you finding time to do art again. I’ve always enjoyed your videos and have followed you for many years , your videos are so relaxing ! I am a mum of two daughters and I remember well the struggles of balancing motherhood and creating art , try not to stress about squeezing time in , just do what you can while you can and just enjoy the little amount of time you get . It does get easier ❤have a wonderful day and hankyou for sharing your art and life journey with us all
The portrait turned out great in the end and your idea of combining it with an egg plant on the page is so amusing! Thank you for showing us your life and happy anniversary for your tenth year on youtube! I first saw you a few years ago in a video where you were telling us how you decided to become an artist, giving up that job at the supermarket in the freezers section. I much admire your positivity and strength, to do so many things at once, continuing with your art and being a good mom!
That's so kind of you, thank you ☺️
I had the volume on low, but I didn't hear any sounds. It was fine. If she was "talking" to herself, it'd be too low for us. So, no worries there. Fun vid! Love the teeny tiny landscape at the end. Also, so awesome she's learning to stand. ❤
Ah that's reassuring, thank you 😊 and yes! she's pulling herself up to stand now, she learned that one so quickly 🥲
Congrats on 10 yrs on UA-cam Minnie ....I have watched almost all your videos...Love your aesthetic. And ive started sketching daily too after I had both my babies (under two) its hard to make time for art...but this video of yours inspired me to
Nice video! My little guy is 1 & 1/2 now and I miss two naps haha, I usually do all my art stuff once he's down for bed now. But my other hobbies are ones I can involve him in!
Congratulations on 10 years!!!🎉🎉🎉 The aubergine is fantastic! I always enjoy watching your creative process. Thank you for sharing! 💜💜💜
The sound was very soothing to me.😊 Congrats on your 10 years!🎉
Glad to hear it 🎉 thank you!
Happy 10 years!!! Been here since 2018/2019 and you've been one of my favourites ever since!! 💛
Congratulations on ten years! I found your channel about 5 years ago when I started learning more about art and more recently enjoyed working with your book. Thanks for sharing challenges and successes of what a busy artist and Mom can fit into nap time.
I just want to let you know, that you are SO SO inspiring!! I really need to get back into drawing and learning to tattoo again.
I just quit my last job to do all that full time and i haven’t gotten into it yet, but you are drawing every day with a cutiepie to take care of at the same time🥰🥰 And you have such a calming precence, that i just want to be your friend irl❤️🫂thank you for this cute video, happy 10 yearsss!!
sending love from estonia🇪🇪
Love to see you posting more frequently!
☺️☺️
I started following you in 2015 when I was taking 2D Design and we had an assignment with gouache, which I had no idea how to use. You have been such a great resource for me. I'm so happy to see you posting again ❤
Aw I love that! thank you 😊😊
I love seeing your videos again Minnie! I've been here for a while, and watching your videos is such a calming part of my evening routine that I'd missed ❤️ (but I also love that you took time out when you needed it! So important!)
I really love listening to audiobooks and painting / jigsaw puzzling too 😍 and anything by Alice Oseman is brilliant, she really picks up on the Tumblr/introvert vibes of those of us in that generation; I always feel so seen after reading her novels ❤️
I'll have to check out more books by Alice Oseman if they've got a similar vibe 😊
Lovely paintings! And your sketching style is so clean! I really like it. Congrats on your 10 years on YT. I got a little shock that your wee one is starting to pull herself up and try to stand already - feels like she was born just a few months ago! I really liked this video and I'll use it as an inspiration when our own little girl gets here in a few months. 💜
Watching this with great interest at 7 months pregnant 😬
I plan on starting work part-time when baby is 6 months old, but there's no way I can get it all done during nap times. Actually, I might just take a nap myself 😂
Hopefully, I'll be able to draw and paint a bit when my partner is home.
Ha, technically I've been on UA-cam for over 10 years as well, but not nearly as regularly as you (just 50 videos). Kudos on your persistence! Editing videos is *so much work*.
I'm so happy you're posting again! Your art is so inspiring ❤
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful inspiring work ❤This life is going way too fast and your videos are always so calm, delicate and relaxing. Thank you!
I'm so happy you think so. Thanks for watching 💛
Wow! Congratulations on 10 years! I think b I’ve been watching for most of it, time flies. Lovely vlog ❤
Thank you 😊
Grateful you show the struggle - gives me confidence to keep trying and keep on keeping on ♥️
I've been following you for years, here and on patreon! Congratulations on the little one. I just had a baby 6 months ago and i fell off from art during the pregnancy from pure exhaustion and being uncomfortable. I still haven't picked up any of my art supplies, i feel so sad about it. 😢 Your videos have given me hope that one day I'll get back to it, first we have to figure out napping in the crib vs contact naps😅 And i also look forward to sharing art with my little one too. Keep hanging in there, you are doing an awesome job!
I love your videos painting, I find them very relaxing, I love your style and also love to hear you talk, and then, suddenly listening to a brazilian song made me gasp, now I just love this video even more! Congratulations on the 10 years btw!! Also the baby monitor noise doesn't affect anything, I would just notice it when you would turn it off, so I don't think you should worry about it.
I rarely comment but I don’t miss a video, congrats on the ten years on UA-cam! 🎉🎉 I’ve been following for a bit, I remember you were doing the inktober haunted houses when I found your videos, I just checked cause I was curious and it’s been like 7 years since, wow!
I’ve been looking for shows to binge as well, so please keep letting us know what you find. I just finished This is Us and I really liked it, found the structure of the show quite different, jumping back and forth in the timelines of characters.
This is the first vid I have watched of yours. Your amazing! When I had my kids all could do was is sit and whimper when they were at their naps! lol. I look forward to watching your 10 year history! 🎉
Please don't worry about the baby noise. It is not distracting for me watching. Please don't stress about it.x❤
That's good to know, thank you 💛
please give yourself a break on your drawing schedule. I took nine years off, when the little one came along, I don't drink coffee so I was constantly exhausted :-) the fact that you're back at YT is amazing
What if she were a surgeon instead of an artist?
Thank you 😊 I don't drink coffee either so I totally understand the exhaustion 😅 did you find it difficult to get back into drawing after 9 years?
❤
I love that you have baby in your vlogs. so cute. I've been wanting to do the same.
I took a break from watching you but you had a baby. . I am so excited for you..
oh gosh yes Radio Silence really hit me as well
Wonderful book 👏🏽
Have you ever used Line of Action? You can do all kinds of faces and bodies. You can also set timers. It's good fun to try and draw a face in 60 seconds.
🙌
I’m so glad you’re documenting motherhood while continuing your art career. I haven’t had a good drawing session in so long 😭 but seeing you dedicate time for art is inspiring and I really want to get back to it. Congrats on 10 years!! I remember the first video I saw from you was your art journey story/quitting your grocery store job.
Yeah, don't worry about the baby monitor.
thanks 😊
What kind of paints you’re using? Is it watercolor or gouache? I’m learning gouache right now. I took a watercolor class last year.
you are amazing, I think it's so admirable that you are even attempting to get some art in while you have a tiny baby on top of all the pressures of life to keep up with. I love how your portraits came out especially 🤍💖
p.s. I LOVE LOST SO MUCH, I haven't rewatched it in such a long time but I hope the tropical island is helping you to feel warmer in the chilly weather! I think the last time I rewatched was during the winter for that reason, haha 💖💖
