omg leigh, i have been watching your videos for a long time and i am currently visiting my parents/home (in ohio). i got my parents to try embroidery with me in the living room and i was sick of watching football on the tv so i switched it to this video, to have someone do art while we also do art. my dad (61 y/o) has been a huge inspiration for me and my art. as he has gotten older, he has been doing art less and less. to my surprise, he put his embroidery down and said out loud "that's a good idea! maybe i should carry around a sketchbook and do art". serendipitously, i just went to blick and bought a sketchbook same day and ran up and gave it to him. he looked so happy! because of you and your video, you inspired my dad to do art again! it means so much to me and i wanted to share. thank you
i really enjoy sped up footage, not necessarily for the sounds, but because i love seeing every little step you take in your process 💗 it helps me remember that other people dont just instantly create art but take quite a bit of time to produce it!
the way your layouts in your journals are ALWAYS so inspiring, it kills me when you talk about how you don’t like some of your pieces but lol i get it at the same time… always love your own life shots too (breakfast montage?? perhaps? walks to your studio) and could seriously have this video be twice as long :] also can we talk about how great your outfit was with the matching bra straps and bandana?…. wow.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who feels that often the panel paintings go great, or the sketchbook spreads are great, but rarely both at the same time 😅
loved the art making and speedy up bits (it is inspiring) also liked just hearing everyday noises in the back ground and the sound of your mark making and painting, more of that please ☺
I had the same issue down sizing in my sketchbook so I turned it into a warm up sketchbook book. That’s my thing now I have a lot of small warm up sketchbooks and big “prettier” sketchbooks with full spreads and paintings that I take more seriously. I find that constantly switching between them helps not having such a struggle period starting a different sized sketchbook.
If you do art you don't like, you've created an learning experience, which you will take to the later iterations. FWIW, I really liked the tree. I find your paintings, all of them, to be amazing. :) Great colors, great strokes, and original.
I use these Art Creations sketchbooks too- the smaller one, I leave on my desk for those days when I just feel like I only have the motivation to do a small sketch of something....I am like you, not taking sketchbooks "on the go" so leaving it on my desk is perfect! I have the pink one in the tiny one and I can't remember what color I have in the A5 size- the only bummer about these is that they aren't good for wet media-like watercolor. but gouache works great!
I freaking love your color selection so much, they are so just so different but go so well together. I need my brain to do that 😂 it would be fun to have maybe a little bit slower when it comes to the colors
If you did the painting and the sketch at the same day after each other, I would say, that the first one is always a warm up. So don’t be so harsh on yourself, you just warmed up your painting muscels in the first try. You wouldn’t expect from yourself to climb the hardest route on your first try. And maybe that’s why the second one feels better!
I have the same brand of sketchbooks from the beginning, and there was a time when I was working in all the three different sizes at the same time. When I wasn’t sure about one drawing’s outcome I tried it, in the smaller one, and the smallest was my warm up sketchbook, and I made more complex images in the bigger ones. And do you paint with guache on the woodpanel?
Also, my two cents worth: there was a moment in that painting where you should have left some of the pink showing through. My heart hurt watching you paint over it 😱❤
Yes, leave your sketchbook on your desk with the art supplies around it 🙂 that is the only way I have been able to fill my abandoned sketchbooks, I have filled 4 this year and I still have many left 😫😅 (but I don't make beautiful art like yours, my "art" is very ugly, fast, messy, but it works for me) 😂
Me: I should buy and use that sketchbook brand, i would love to use the same as leigh (*who still haven't finish a sketchbook *) 😂 I love your videos Leigh 🩷💚
Hi Leigh! I watched today’s vlog i loved it! I immediately went to my local art supply store to find that pinky orangey pencil you sketch with but i had no luck. Would you share what color it is? It looks like a prismacolor pencil. Thanks so much ! You crushed it today!!
I tried a sketchbook with tinted pages for the first time and it took me weeks to get into it. Now i love it. I had such a frustrating time in the beginning and there were weeks i didn't touch it at all. Now I'm not sure i can go back lol
Excellent forehead well done for sharing it consider keeping the art you dislike and moving forward onto a new piece because there could be a day where you look back at it and you go. This is the gem what was I thinking? Love your content thanks
How I feel about widow's peaks: I had a widow's peak and I hated it, I have a small forehead and it was not a shallow widow's peak. One day I was plucking my eyebrows and, possessed by impulsivity, plucked the peak off too. Looked fucking great, I pluck it like every six months or so and it takes two seconds, other than that I never think about it.
I’ve always loved your sketchbook work. Not to discount your paintings, because they’re still lovely. I just prefer the look of the work you do in your sketchbook. It seems looser and more fun. I especially love your pen drawings. The way you put shadows in makes me so happy.
art making was definitely not boring!! Literally throw it all in we want it all!!!

leigh i think that its so funny that i also bought a red, pink, and lavender medium sketchbook. this was after i watched ur sketchbook video
Bonus points for the smiley face of blue paint spots in the tree

it is prismacolor! i'm not a sure the color name exactly atm
You should try Stillman & Birn sketchbooks if you like to paint on them! There are different whites, grains and weights, take a look you may love it!
I tried a sketchbook with tinted pages for the first time and it took me weeks to get into it. Now i love it. I had such a frustrating time in the beginning and there were weeks i didn't touch it at all. Now I'm not sure i can go back lol

But loving the vid so farr, miss watching your art vlogs
Are you inspired by photo? While working in color with these tree and animal sketches?
i always use reference photos!
Did I miss her saying what pen she’s using? Does anyone know?
it's a muji pen!
I like normal speed drawing. I want to be able to speed it up myself ya know. Am I able to slow it down if you’ve already sped it up? 😅❤
