It's a shame antitrust & monopoly laws haven't been enforced in about 45-50 years - People like Senator Sanders has tried to get legislation passed regarding this but he's only 1 person & unfortunately because of no real campaign finance reform it's virtually impossible to take on the top 1% whom control just about everything.

MSer here and just the infusion medication is over fifty grand. Being chronically ill in America is a nightmare.
I have my wife's cancer horror story. We left the country to a developing nation and it's wonderful here. Paying out of pocket at private hospitals is no more expensive. Europeans etc scream and howl about the prices though. America looks like an Idiocracy from the outside.

@@billytheweasel It looks like one from the inside as well. My wife has been fighting stage 4 cancer for the last 3 years. There have been many ups and downs, mostly downs. We were ready to take a year off from everything and travel before her diagnosis. I doubt that will ever happen. Our savings of 30 years are gone. The only thing we have left is our house and cars.
I am SO sorry to read this. I am a retired hospice nurse, RN, and so much of what I witnessed over the years of my career would not have happened in any other first world nation. As an example, I saw so very many young people, in their 20's, 30's 40's, who didn't have health insurance when they first detected a lump or other new, strange symptom. So they let it go and didn't see a doctor until there was no other choice, and they were already dying. The health insurance industry ought to be tried for crimes against humanity!
In America, people are punished when they seek treatment for a serious illness.

Bernie Sanders is so right about this. I just wish there were more people in the government who were more cooperative about taking these greedy billionaires down or at least you know taking them down a peg enough to make sure that they have to pay their fair share and enough to make sure that lives aren't destroyed just for them to have more money
They're being paid by the billionaires to look the other way, that's the whole problem. The government is not going to solve this, the people need to organize against the billionaires to enact real change.

Trillions wouldn't be enough because the person with the most trillions is going to want to keep ahead of everyone else, and every billionaire and millionaire is going to want to have more trillions than the trillionaire. Cutting the wealth taxes from being 90% at the top bracket was a mistake.

There’s no such thing as “enough” in the Capitalist ideology. It’s not a matter of enough, it’s about perpetual growth and increasing the numbers into infinity. On this note there is no contradiction in maximizing profit in whatever way possible and the fact we are living with a finite supply. Capitalism is not about fairness or freedom from scarcity but rather the ability to control whatever resource is currently valuable.
In a slave labor economy, freedom from exploitation may be the most valuable commodity to those who are not in control. But to the extent that billionaires view their wealth as power to be free, they cannot afford to limit it by any means. Until we unlink the concept of freedom to live our lives from the power that wealth provides to live in a more free state, we are all stuck somewhere along the continuum of slavery and enslaving others.
Fundamentally we have to all have access to “enough” and agree on what wealth actually means for life itself. If survival depends on having currency of any sort in order to flourish then it makes billionaires out of anyone with a penny in comparison to someone who has no currency. Materialism itself sows the seeds for scarcity and excess. Enough is just a subjective term for point along this line where life is less likely to be cut short by the inability to pay for its quality.
Nothing about the way human beings currently live is sustainable right now We have all agreed to give power to a metaphorical measurement system of wealth and power that essentially requires inequality.
The cognitive dissonance ingrained within capitalism (which was based upon scarcity to give money and resources their value within this economic philosophy that demands limitless growth) is humanity’s greatest mistake. It’s very confusing and makes it impossible to speak about concepts like “enough” or “equity” in a meaningful sense. These concepts just can’t be part of the same rubric by definition.
Socialism tries to create the conditions to alleviate the extremes of capitalism but there will always be serious problems as capitalism needs winners and losers to exist. Until we stop playing this game we can’t really solve these problems. Is there enough? That should actually be the question to ask first. There are fundamental problems with the way we currently try to solve these quality of life questions because we have yet to agree on what is actually going on. It’s like trying to figure out how to make the process of poisoning ourselves more fair instead of questioning why we are poisoning ourselves or what the poison actually is.
I know for sure there's something known as not enough... At that point now not enough. But I'll make do.
Bernie is completely correct and should be honored for his work.

Most billionaires don’t even spend their own money, they take out loans against their stock portfolio.
By doing this, they have significantly less “income” to be taxed and they don’t need to sell stock either, which would incur capital gains tax.
Remember that the next time you’re denied a home loan, even though you’ve proven to be able to pay rent for the same monthly cost.
