This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for this. I feel very fortunate to be an artist living at a time where such helpful information is so readily available via the Internet.
Dear Dianne, I am so grateful to you for your quick tips and videos. I am a novice painter and have tried many teachers. You are miles above the others, especially due to your logical presentations and gentle voice! I feel so hopeful when I finish a lesson that I can learn to be a painter. Thank you for sharing your talent and inspiration! Bonnie
Hi Dianne! I'm about to tackle my first nocturne and found your QT. Thank you so much for this roadmap!! I loved watching this scene develop and the thought process behind how to approach it. The little study itself was beautiful, and I'm excited to try mine now. Thank you again for these helpful tools! 😊
Thank you so much. I have always been drawn to the sense of of loneliness, mystic, and muted colors that Edward Hopper evokes in his nocturnal paintings.
You give such good tips and your voice is so relaxing as I dose off to sleep watching. I do a lot of mental painting in my head as a newer self taught artist (5 yrs)
I watched this wonderful lesson this morning with my first coffee and it has been a great way to start my day. Fresh eyes and ears inspired by your explanation of the intrigue of nocturnes. Nocturnes are the monthly topic of my pastel teacher and she recommended to all to watch this video. I have been a subscriber to your channel for awhile and am trying to watch everything you have on youtube. The relevance to pastel is excellent and I always learn from you. Thank you so very much!
there are too many painting courses every where for various prices cheap and expensive, compared to your quick tips those art courses are just like scammers! Dianne you are a wonderful person thank you for all your quality videos and all best wishes to you
This quick tip just made my day, or should I say my night? This is the best video I've seen so far on how to get started. You covered exactly what I was hoping to do--turn a day scene into night. Thank you!
Dianne this night scene is perfect , very nice. Spot on and very real looking for such a small painting. You captured the way the moonlight looks when it hits the grass . I've always loved the way the natural world looks in the woods at night where the only light is the moon. You captured this simply and perfectly. Many thx , and well wishes for you continued work.
This was absolutely what I needed. In a few hours, I’m planning on setting up to paint the full moon tonight. I also loved it because she reminded me of my granny😂❤️
This is fantastic and exactly what I’m needing. I’m doing a PleinAir event in August. 4 Day and one of them includes nocturnal PleinAir paintings. Thank you so much. I’m going to go out and practice this first. Many blessings.
This was the first video I clicked on for a nocturnal painting- and it was EXTREMELY helpful!! I’m having people in my night scene (inspired by a book) and I want them illuminated by the meteors that’s above them. Which is a bit of a challenge for me, especially since I’ve never done a night painting. This helps a lot thank you!!
Thank you for the lesson! Very helpful. You are so sweet and talented. You actually remind me of my grandmother, who by the way is one of my favorite people so consider that a huge complement! And again thank you for the video, God Bless.
Dianne, Thank you very much for this video. I attempted a nocturne with Ultramarine Blue, Transparent Oxide Red and Yellow Ocher. I can see where studies and field observation and work will really pay off. Thanks again!
Wow. 17 minutes? That's not exactly quick -- that's a whole lesson! I'm getting so much out of these tips and have even purchased a few of your videos, which I'm enjoying as well.
Hi Dianne, Thanks so much for this wonderful lesson. It really was amazing to see your little nocturne come to life in a matter of minutes! ! I recently painted a nocturne (before having seen this video) and, having done it from my imagination, I'm not sure if it looks like something one would actually observe in real life. :) Sadly, I can't share it with you here... That said, I really appreciate your helpful tip, Dianne. It will help me in the future, I'm sure!
What a nice little painting you did, and so quickly! I'm tempted to do some night paintings just because they're so easy (relatively), and they're very appealing, to my eye anyway. It's sort of the way Starry Night gets your attention, maybe because it's not just your standard daylight sky, trees and grass that you see all the time in paintings. The night also seems to draw you in and holds your attention, maybe because of a primal instinct to see what's there in the dark. Anyway, nice tutorial, thanks.
If you want to do some night paintings, one thing that will help is to observe at nighttime what the moonlight is doing as well as other lights (such as street lights). How are the effecting what you are seeing?
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I did that last night. I was surprised to see that the halo of light around the moon was a rainbow! Never noticed that before. I guess it all has to do with the moister in the air. Closest to the moon the halo was blue, then it turned the slightest bit yellow, and lastly it was red. Good to know. I'll take a good look at street lights at night the first chance I get. Thank you so much for the kind response. Given the fact that I live in NYC, I'm not used to that!
People at backlight with a sunset on the beach ? Excuse my poor English because I speak French. Thank you in advance to show us how to do it if you want. I love your youtube video ! Thanks a lot
Whatever is in backlight will be in shadow from the observer's viewpoint. Remember, it's the light source's location and what it is doing that causes shadow.
Thanks Dianne, I love your tutorial. Where can I find your website; can I have the link? God bless your modest soul, but you should have the link in the description, know that it is a good thing :)

I do too!

My guess is that you are ALREADY a painting. Keep on painting!
This is actually probably one of the most informative painting tutorials I’ve watched on UA-cam
Thank you!

There are so many potential variations. Perhaps you could send a photo to dianne@diannemize.com so I can see exactly what you are requestion. Thanks.

Can you do close-ups of your painting when demonstrating? It is difficult to see what's actually being done. Thanks!
Our producer has been working on that.
Hi... Nice...
Thank you
How do you paint rain?
It's all about painting what you see rather than predicting by formula. I'll put your request on our schedule.
This is great. Thanks!
