    What could I do if the slope was 1 or -1? And how would I move 1 unit to the right/left, where did that come from?

    • @cwebbi
      @cwebbi 4 роки тому +6

      Since the rule is y - y1 or x - x1 etc, if the original number was negative, it was say y + that number because subtracting a negative number is essentially just adding. This means that since it is a normal subtraction sign the original number is positive. Hope this helps.

    Question: so if I was given a slope and the points I can just graph them? ‘Coz I was taught that I have to solve them with point slope formula and start once I got the slope intercept form.

      listen, in the original equation, the y's and x's are subtracted always : (y-y)=m(x-x).
      if you have a point that has a NEGATIVE number like (-8,-9), the subtraction sign in the equation will make it positive or addition.
      for example:
      ( y - y ) = m( x - x ) and ( -8, -9 )
      (y-(-9)=m(x-(-8) because the points are (negative) - (negative) they will make positive: +
      so, (y+9)=m(x+8).
      If you want to graph it you'll need the actual points, which are (-9,-8).
      so you will reverse the sign (if positive) into negative
      and, make the negative into positive (if negative) if you need to graph it.

    Do you have to always have 3 points or can it only be 2? Bc my next point goes off the graph.

  • @charlieibkiss4068
    @charlieibkiss4068 3 роки тому

    Don't you have to distribute 3/2 to (x+4) then subtract 3 from both sides ???? so you end up getting y=3/2x +3??? someone Im confused.

    • @st4r336
      @st4r336 Рік тому +2

      The one ur talking abt is slope intercept form which is y=mx+b (since y=3/2x+3 is y=Mx+b, 3/2 is slope and 3 is the y-intercept) but the video is talking about point slope form which is
      y-y1=m(x-x1)
      There’s also standard form
      Ax+By=C

    • @citlalirodriguez5006

      so since the slope is 2 and isn’t a fraction you would go up 2 and go to the right 2 if the slope was 3 you would go up 3 and to the right 3 if that makes sense i hope this helps
