  • I walk through the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bensonhurst via 86th Street from 18th Avenue to Bay Parkway. This area is full of Chinese businesses and restaurants with roots from the Guangdong and Hong Kong area. It was featured previously as the setting of the popular Saturday Night Fever movie. Many places popped up since I last visited, and it's astonishing to see this area growing so quickly.

    Hey guys,
    Joe Badalamente here.
    As I’m sure you know I grew up on Bay 17th St. between Bath Avenue and Cropsey Avenue and I attended public school 163. I was born in 1954 and I believe I started 163 in 1960. I remember the crossing guard Liz, who every morning would say to me “what do you know Joe just come back from a rodeo show” she was such a sweetheart. Also, my mother taking me down 86 street buying me a Shala rooster, which most people have no idea what that little pastry is, and we would buy fruit at all of the outdoor markets.
    I lived in Brooklyn until I was 20 and then moved out to Long Island until July 2005.
    My wife, Kathy and I moved to Easton Pennsylvania with our kids.
    Having been found by this group is beyond a privilege and almost brings me to tears seeing the old neighborhood.
    I have so many good memories!
    Thanks for allowing me to be a part of it and my warmest hellos to everyone.

    NYC is alive, full of hustle and bustle of city life, without those cars honks, then it wouldn't be complete...many restaurants flourish in these areas, as long as the foods and prices are reasonable....a great place to have a good time too!! Thanks AK for sharing this with us...🎉😮

    1:17 It's so cool to see you understand Cantonese and responded to that man. 😎 21:22 Crazy honking!!! Seeing all the local eateries made me hungry, and your pizza at L&B Spumoni Gardens looked so good on ActionKid Extra! 😋 It was windy during your walk, and thank you for sharing this informative and relaxing stroll, AK! 🤗

    We lived on West 11th between Avenue S and T for a few years (30 years ago). I taught at Boody JHS. I remember it well. It’s definitely changed over the years. I remember that subway! Wasn’t Gene Hackman’s famous chase scene from The French Connection shot on 86th Street?

    Kind of surprised to see that Marshall's is still there...used to be a movie theatre. 86th Street used to have some really nice shops and was MUCH cleaner. The drivers in fl-a-duh are a thousand times worse than any New Yorker! The only good thing left is L&B Pizza!!

    Look at all those overhead wires! It's like a third-world country.

    • @City-Hiker
      @City-Hiker 8 місяців тому +1

      The wire are network cable, and electricity cable are under the ground.
      Network cable usually has a hub in the corner of the street and connect to the nearby household.

      The difference from European immigration "assimilation ". Just doesn't happen anymore. Move to the USA use the system and way of life, benefit from it, and then change it into some other place.
