Excellent video. I used to live right in the area of where you started your walk! I lived there and witnessed the riots that happened back around 1970. Give or take a couple of years. I lived right between President and Carroll Sts. on 5th Ave. My father owned a Chinese Laundry located at 233 5th Ave. It is now a tobacco "Convenience" store. I used to go to P.S. 321 on 7th Ave. I used to love living in that area even though it wasn't the safest of times back in the late 1960's and early 1970s. I do get back every once in a while and walk the old neighborhood.
They have a game store like that where I live. It’s called a speakeasy because it is a room in the back of a game store. They serve food and drinks and have table set up. You can sit around and play board games with your friends.
Moving back to park slope born and raised there.
Grew up there in the 50's and 60's, well done; a bittersweet journey. Lots and lots of little history secrets I could tell ya but I'll resist going all "boomer" on you. Some hints: "Crazy Joe" Gallo, grainy Italian cheesecake, the hidden bowling alley on 5th between 7th and 8th St., Timbo's bar on 11th St. (gone now). St. Thomas Aquinas grammar school (closed) and the legend of P.S 51, The old RKO and Avon theaters, well I could go on and on...good job- keep 'em coming!

Saw a lotta good shows at the RKO, Officer Joe brought the 3 stoogers there. They had 2 movies all the time a color and a black and white and cartoons. we'd sneak smokes in the balcony. My father took me to see Dr. No in '62 it was his way of doing the talk, and when Ursala Andress stepped out of the ocean it was all I needed.@@Neville60001

Lots of family history in Park Slope . At 4:04 there used to be a Buster Brown shoe store . My cousin lived on the 3rd floor above the pizzeria and we watched the Twin Towers being built from the roof . My grandfathers house is on Douglass and 4th , my cousin Sammy still lives there . Dad walked those streets from ‘31 till a few months ago . The best was the King Kong truck ride for a dime .
My favorite Brooklyn neighborhood or Brooklyn heights it’s close? But So is Williamsburg? Can’t make up my mind.😂

I liked the "Drink Espresso and Stop being Depresso" sign, lol, I thought it was cute. The Masalawala place was certainly festive. It was packed so it must be good. Is it Indian cuisine or something else? The children and kids in strollers were adorable. They were out in force today and so were the dogs. lol I would say you are right regarding Jiu-jitsu versus fencing. There aren't too many sword-wielding men out on the street, and even if the victim was experienced in the art, what are the odds he'd be toting a sword at that precise moment? lol This was an exciting walk, even the serenity of the Gotham City neighborhood was nice:-) I loved that corner building on 17th street. AK. If you go further down, you might see the Flatbush Avenue now with more and more people moving in.
The neighborhood near the Flatbush Avenue like Prospect Park, Sunset Park Borough Park, Midwood, Kensington, Madison, Marine Park, Mill Basins are gentrifying. Many higher income people move in these area, many local residents are forced to move out.
There are an organization in Flatbush are anti-gentrification.
Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park and Mill Basins are also with more and more Whites to move in. Back to the 20 years ago. Those area are much lesser Whites.
