@Yassine Charrour, SIM800L is a GSM module only it can make or receive call and receive or send SMS. However, you can attach a gps module to your MCU and send the GPS coordinates with the GSM module. Another option could be is to use the 3G internet capability of SIM800L and use the network tower location as reference for the coordinates. This option is not accurate. I have not tried it also, so I do not know how to make it. I hope this helps you. Cheers.
That's a great Videa TechToTinker, but your description of the pin assignments doesn't seem to match the label on the back of the SIM800L. Pin 3 (from the top) is labelled as RST, whereas you described it as RXD, then you only describe five pins, when there are actually six (NET, VCC, RST, RXD,TXD and GND according to the label). I have ordered an SIM800L, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I can't verify whether your description or the labels are correct, but it might be an idea for you to confirm please :-) Do we need to do anything with the RST pin, such as tie it high or low perhap, or will the the SIM800L work OK without it connected, as appears to be the case?
Hi @Michael Benn, NET is not actually a pin where pin headers will be connected. NET is where you connect the external helical antenna. That's the reason, I begin pin assignment from VCC as pin 1. You can leave the RST pin without connection to microcontroller. its sole purpose is for resetting the SIM800L.I believe, it has a pullup resistor in the module. You have the option to tied it to microcontroller's RESET pin or you can control it manually. Thank you and cheers.

@@TechToTinker thank you so much for your valuable reply sir
@@teluguyoutuberkarthik_elec9020 my pleasure brother. Cheers
Goodmorning sir I just want to ask if what data plan does the simcard need? Regular load or data plan? Badly need for my thesis sir
Do i need to take the sim back or just keep to in the gsm module to get the sms
Is there any AT command for sending SMS to the SIM address book?
Pls, what software can I use for the programming
Hi.with tanks but i waz listened sim800l just need 3.8 V and dont work with 5 V .how did you do that with 5 V ?
Hi @arman riyahi, yes you understood it right SIM800L should be powered 3.4 to 4.4V
Can i connect audio jack to the module for earphones to make calls..?... If i can means plz help me to make this.. Bro.. Plz plz pzl
is it still working if im just use 5 volt to give power supply to gsm without use diod or resistor
Shout out George galing mo na ngaun ah galingan mo pa pra may matutunan kme
Thank you @Skad, oo sinabi mo eh hehehe
Hello sir, kindly can u clarify my doubt
I am using sim800l for my project I am very confused, whether should i use any dc-dc buck converter or I am having a 12V adapter can i use that
use a buck converter, reduce the volts to a range of 3.4 to 4V
Anong sim card po compatible sa SIM800L?
Any sim. Most of SIMs are backward compatible so dapat magwork siya pa rin sa 2G.
Hello sir, do you have any coding or tutorial that can make that GSM reply back via phone after receiving from the phone sms without using a laptop?
Im assuming the sim card is already activated? Or does the sim800 already connects it to satellites?
If we use esp32 having WiFi module then why we are using sim800l can we use both?
Tell me difference
I think I'm late but, ESP32 has wifi connectivity but you cannot send message solely using wifi, GSM module helps in sending message and stuff. Though If you wish to route your message using wifi, it won't be needed
Good day! does it need to have a balance to send messages?
@Hibiki Kuze, gsm module works exactly the same as your mobile phone. Does your mobile phone can send sms without load balance?
Is it possible to connect pin 6(ring) directly to the arduino digital pins to detect high/low... When a call is received ... Would this work ? Or is the output incompatible ?.
Thank you
Paul
If we connect to laptop do we need to connect external supply also?
hi sir... may softcopy ka ba nyan..?
@Darwin Vargas, yes check the links in the video description. Cheers.
hello po sir. I am a student planning to use arduino with sim800L with a fire sensor alarm and buzzer. This will be one of the features of our research project in our state university. Is there any chance that you could provide a tutorial for this fire alert system sir? Thank you so much
How to implement the same with esp32 instead of arduino?
Hi @Gaurav Chauhan, I am currently creating the drafts of the tutorial. I will post in around 2 weeks time. To answer your question, just learn the UART and apply the same AT commands.
Hope you checkout again. Cheers
Hi @Gaurav Chauhan, I just uploaded the implementation using MicroPython. Please check it out:

Hi, great video. I am using SIM800l with ESP32. How can I use to send sms?
does it sim800l works in 2G only?? or can it work on 4G?
Could you tell me how to buy a phone number recorded in the SIM phonebook with the AT + CPBF command, or one that will give you a result, please
@Osmer Romero, check it in page 82 of this pdf:

@@TechToTinker If I have seen the AT + CPBF commands, what I need is to compare the entry number with the agenda number, but I cannot connect a conditional (IF) with AT command, could you help me please
Sir,,,, can i make gps traker using only gsm 800l
Hi @Joe Rivera, SIM800L is a GSM/GPRS module meaning it doesn't have a GPS capability. However, it is possible to use the cell position and triangulate your approximate location. It could be difficult and not accurate.
Better to use additional gps module. Hope this helps. cheers.
@@TechToTinker ok thanks
@Joe Rivera, You're welcome. Thank you for visiting. :)
Recommended to observe the following option:
1. 3.4 to 4.4 V sa VCC external power supply.
2. 2.8V voltage level on rx pin using voltage divider circuit resistor or better use voltage level converter module.
or use a sim800l powerboard.
or better used sim800l v2 board because it takes care voltage level and power.
@@TechToTinker thanks man earned my subscription and respect hahahaha
@@gitgud42 your most welcome bro. Thanks.
Which diode did you use sir? Will IN-4001 work on SIM800L?
can you make another video using sim800l and TTGO LORA32
Why did in sending the output("Hi TechToThinker") says ERROR. is signal the cause of it ?
Did you solve it?
What library po yung ginagamit nyu po ditu? Hehe
how to open sim toolkit in sim800L
Hi, I also don't know.
Make it simple. If you want to do is to check the sim balance credit, I think you can achieve it through sms. Send balance inquiry first through sms then wait for the reply.
How can i connect sim 800L to audio jack
It can work in USA or not ?if not which module it can work in USA
We can use any company sim in gsm module and other side phone have any company sim
It's working or not?
Like we use gsm module vodaphone sim and in our phone in jio sim
So it is working or not?
@Dhruv Patel, yes it will as long as your country still supports 2G.
@@TechToTinker bcz my module work only if vodaphone to Vodaphone
But when I chnage vodaphone to any other company sim ,it's not working
So provide solutions
I TRIED THIS SAME BUT THE SERIAL MONITOR IS ONLY SHOWING "INITIALIZING.." NOT PRINTING AT
got any solution for this issue?
It is very useful video and u told clear concept
But i am not getting sms to my number can u please help me out
Sir we can use airtel sim in gsm module 800l
I can't answer you with regards to that. I live in the Philippines. Anyways, you may try it on your own.
Hello Sir,Can you make the code for vibration Sensor,sim800l,buzzer and Arduino nano,to sending message.
Hi @Niel james Sapin, yes just create another variable for default_num lets say default_num2.
At first I thought you were a Filipino Sir, and it turned out na tama ako!

What happens if you only get "initializing AT&T??AT+" what can be wrong?
Could be and most probably your power supply. Check if it follows basic requirements.
hello, since sim 800l is for 2G networks, is it compatible with a 4G/5G sim card? Is there any specific voltage it might require to function? Thank you.
@john jose dela cruz, 4G/5G is commonly designed backward compatible to 2G. 3.4 to 4.4V is the supply voltage requirements. GPIO is 2.8V logic level.
yes for 4G but not support LTE 4G

Hi, I actually wanted to ask that I'm using sim800l with Arduino uno to send SMS and make call simultaneously one after another but the problem is that after connecting to network call function is working really fine but SMS are not sent somehow,.... I've tried tons of code but SMS are not being sent please help if anyone can ! I would be really thankful
Sir why is it in my case its not working I used a 5g TNT sim
I wish to use the protocol MQTT, is it possible ?
can i use it like a tracker gps , i mean that it can send a location to the phone with sms message
Cheers.
Thanks, but the is no link to the code in the description nore in the comments. Please correct
Hi Nicolo, thank you for visiting. Here is the link: techtotinker.blogspot.com/2020/07/tutorial-how-to-use-sim800l-gsm-module.html
Can a Sim800L create a hotspot network ? Using simcard internet?
No. SIM800L can only provide internet in 2G. Also SIM800L has no wifi capability to provide hotspot network.
how to connect keyboard and make connection?
Can you make a tutorial on how to send messages using SIM800L in ESP32 Micropython🥺🥺
Hello brother, please help me, it does not ring for me, what is the solution?
What do you mean with "it does not ring"?

Hi niru, usually any technology advancement ay backward compatible in order to support previous hardware. So what I mean is your 4G sim card should be backward compatible to 2G.
