    I contacted Randolph about this and they confirmed that new lenses can be put into old frames as long as they are in good condition.
    They also offer a Tune-Up Service ($25) in which Randolph would put on new bayonet temple tips, new nose pads, full cleaning, realignment etc.
    Installing new lenses would be an extra cost. However with a pair like this I would definitely recommend against putting on new temples and nose rests because these have such great character to them and the aged look really adds to that!
    Thanks for watching you can use code: SHADEREVIEW10 for 10% off your purchase of a new pair of sunglasses here:

      I think you should polish the lenses instead of replacing them. In that case they would be restored. Plus change the eartips and nose pads. That would be great.

      @@Zarakkahnn 27 years old and for $25 I get pretty much a brand new pair of sunglasses that truly incredible!

      Their tune-up service is actually a great deal, considering it's really hard to find replacement parts yourself, and it's not easy to change out the temple tips at all. If the metal frames get bent they'll get them back to normal too, which is difficult to do by hand. They fixed a pair of mine up real nice.

    • @ShadeReview

      Definitely they really are doing it at cost. They aren’t making any money on it

    I also bought my brand new Randolph Engineering Crew Chief model in 1995 and I'm still using it up to the present. The nose pads just a bit yellow but the sunglasses still look awesome. I think I bought it for about $25 in peso equivalent here in the Philippines. Excellent quality! Thanks RE!

      Meanwhile Ray Ban will not offer Tune ups for a brand new pair that you accidentally sat on 7 days after buying... if you call up customer service they will offer you a 30% discount on a new pair...

      @@ShadeReview I hope the pair I currently have lasts me that long. The hinges still feel like brand new a year in and the build quality across the board is the best in the business. Only sunglass brand I have tried that has that longevity to the hinges, especially for someone that wears them every day like I do.

    • @ShadeReview

    Really cool to see a review of vintage sunglasses. I just got my first pair of B&L Wayfarer's today and I was impressed by how smooth the frame and the hinges feel compared to my brand new RB2140 that cost twice as much.
    Maybe you could do some kind of Luxottica vs Bausch & Lomb comparison with a few models, comparing them by their looks, quality, feel, weight, et cetera.

    The nose arm on the issued pair is different in style and shape from the commercial one you can note from this video.
    I like the shape on the issued one more, no need to adjust to fit my nose unlike the current commercial version. I just order an Rx pair and swap around the aviator frames in my collection. all 52mm, 2 for the issued style and 3 for commercial style all are compatible lenses socket.

    How do you feel about the hinges on Randolph Engineering? Are they adjustable?
    I was able to on some discounted pairs of 52 and 55mm ones and they felt pretty tight on my head…but I’m wearing glasses with similar total width

    • @kingkoopa115
      @kingkoopa115 3 роки тому +2

      The measurement you’re stating is just how the lens opens up. You have to also factor in the bridge or distance between lenses. If you have 52 eye size with a bridge size of 17 and 52 mm with 19 bridge size you will feel the difference in size.

    I'm looking for a used , and old model glasses of Randolph Engineering in Japan.
    But I think that there's a lot of fake glasses of RE even in an old models ( Bought 20〜30 years ago ).
    Because there's no engraving that you show us.
    Example of bridge engraving ;
    Real : AF-55□20 , R/E USA
    Fake : , R . E .

    Randolph Engineering customer service kind of sucks. I sent in a pair of gunmetal Aviator frames in because the gun metal completely rubbed off. And instead of asking me to take a picture and send it to them, they had me mail them in and after over a month I got them back only for them to say they can't do anything. So I prefer American Optical over Randolph Engineering. If you do need lenses for a pair of RE Aviators, that is if you score a pair on the bay for $40 which is easy, just contact American Optical and order lenses from them because they are way more affordable and they will fit in the RE frames because they are the same. I don't know how Randolph got away with legally stealing American Optical's Pilot frames.
