  • Cody and Chey travel to the Calakmul archeological site in Campeche, Mexico. Over 60 km deep in the jungle, Calakmul is one of the last Mayan sites that allows you to climb the pyramids. Calakmul was the rival city of the more well known Tikal site, just 22 miles across the border in Guatemala.

As I am planning my trip to Mexico for christmas/new year, this is exactly what I was looking for. It's expecially hard to find updated informations about Calakmul, since the construction of the hotel and the maya train seem to drastically change the situation month by month.
I have a few questions that would be incredibly useful:
-When did you do film this?
-On tripadvisor I see multiple complaints about the construction vehicles on the road that multiplies drastically the travel time, meanwhile in your video everything seems alright, is some particular time schedule to keep in mind?
-Is the access to the archeological site blocked during some particular days/times? I've seen monday mentioned as one of those.
Thanks so much for the content you're putting out!

There is a lot of construction on the road but we got there just after sunrise, so work had not begun yet. We were pretty worried about it, as in some parts of the road there is only room for one car.
I think the last entry park, as of June, ends at 10AM. The situation is constantly evolving and by winter, who knows. I will say, I think it would be worth getting out there before the train and hotel are complete. It's an amazing site and getting to experience it, while it's still wild and remote, is a such an incredible experience!
