Dude definitely worth more than 36k subscribers smh. Keep doing this stuff man. Literally answers questions of our civilization that can’t be answered without doing the footwork your doing. Mad respect
Keep up the work man. This is important content that needs to be out there
Brother, just keep doing this...we are infants in regards to understanding our past down there in mesoamerica...just keep going! What an adventure too; and I get to live vicariously!
Clever videography; notice how the camera always points high or toward the jungle so you don’t see all the tourists walking around? You can almost believe that Luke is Indiana Jones discovering a lost Mayan city in the jungle ;)
It is an incredible place though; I was there in December. It’s remote, but there are lots of people around and no trek is required to get there -- just a long drive to the site then short walks on wide paths. There’s also tons of construction going on in the area - they’re finishing Tren Maya and building a hotel for Calakmul guests. If you want a jungle trek to a remote lost city, El Mirador is the place to go.
Great job Luke it looked bloody humid and very tough to navigate around that jungle but thank you for taking us with you buddy 👍
I agree with you. With Lidar, we are just entering the apex of the second age of Maya discovery, and the initial age of exploration of people like Maudsley, De Charney, Stevens and Catherwood, Proskouriakoff....... and you, and I is still ongoing. It is a wonderful time to be alive and curious about the Maya civilization and all that it has to offer to the curious fertile intellect.
We’re all living vicariously through you Luke. Greatly appreciate you sharing your adventures!
13:10 "Im gonna throw up..
on the map how insanely far into the jungle we are right now." Lolol
UA-cam recommended this to me :) Hopefully the algorithm will flood people to your page, fantastic work that totally needs to be spread!
Need more like this!
Loved the video, especially the intro music got me in the mood for an exploring video. Keep up the good work!
Great video! Make them longer!
If someone spent billions of dollars studying this place, do you think it would take less than 5 or 10 years instead of 300 years?
you are super underrated!
Thanks too Luke for bringing us to this wonderful area and piece of our history and at the moment Lukes present ! At the top of that pyramid as we looked out into the jungle imagining the possibilities , I felt like i was there with you , fealing glory but humbled , i just wanted to say " Luke , you should sit down for a few . " You wook hard just to bring us with to you and make these videos like this ! 🍻
Oh ya, you should have your snake boots ! 🐍👢
It is a race to uncover or lose these ancient sites, the jungle or weather, looters, time, that seem to have most of these ancient sites.
I've always thought there are structures in the jungles of the Caribbean.
Jungles of the Caribbean should be. amovie
There also is evidence of a sak be between El Mirador and Ux Te Tuun'/ Chiik Naab'. If you use Google maps you can actually see some it.
As you move around enthusiastically through the underbrush just keep in mind that the "Snake Ahau= the Kaan" rulers of Ux Te Tuun' Chiik Naab' were snakes for a good reason. Ux Te Tuun' Chiik Naab' lies in the heart of what the locals refer to as the land of the real snakes, and they aren't referring to the human ones. Keep an eye open, and watch where you step and move.
you should come to Brazil and check the recent discoveries of a lost city called Ratanabá
Enjoy it all🙂
Imagine getting lost in this place!! How fast until you start hallucinating, dehydrating, giving up, seeing green upon green. When they tell you that the planet is over populated but you have this empty place lol
Eh it's a popular tourist site so you'd probably be ok
Awesome! An upload! How can I support you financially?!
Luke.... you do realize that nahuacas like to hide under the cool cover of fallen dried leaves. You can't see them until they strike.
With so much stonework to source where, then, were the stone quarries for these massive efforts?
Are you planning to uncover any of these findings? Maybe just a swipe of the leaves and brush to reveal the stone , i do not mean a full disruption of soil or excavation. Just a reveal here and there to show a stacked stone or two.
Bro's out here like Indiana Jones, I love it! Keep doing these incredible insight videos Luke, most of us would never see this stuff if it wasnt for you!
Saw you on Forbidden Frontier.
I didn't expect the music in the opening to make me smile as much as I did.
Keep it going, young blood.
Super interesting, keep going! But you need to fix the quality of the video. It is a bit blurry and shaky right now.
Thanks
Okay Luke...... I respect what you are doing enough to make a suggestion that might be of interest to you. Go to Ich Kabal.
Love these videos
These Amazon and Central American Jungles are probably still inhabited with indigenous tribes that where never contacted.
I've always been curious if civilizations like the myan and the Egyptians had any interaction because aren't their similarities between the two? Also the relationship between the grand canyon and the Egyptians.
Great content Luke.
Im going to Mexico for the first time in May, seeing quite a few of the ancient sites.
I feel like ive seen everything in Egypt now, so time to move on to this part of the world!
Dude you're badass for sharing this content with us!
Looking around the Lacandon region will get you killed, either by the zapatistas, or by drug lords angry about you crossing their patch. If you must do this go to Sak Tz'i', but do so with the land owner's permission.
I was seriously looking at Guatemala for my March Break, but decided on Cyprus. I'm looking forward to comparing its Neolithic sites to the ones I explored in Malta.
I'm really curious how much of the forest would have had to be cleared to collect all the Rocks used to construct these structures
I never miss a video thank you for the content you put out Luke.
Excellent video, deserves so many more views.
Very cool stuff
Great video ! Id maybe recommend getting one of those small mics that can attach to your shirt so it can capture ur voice more and can allow u to lower the background noise when you edit such as the crunching footsteps lol. Food for thought
Cool video bro. That jungles thiiiick!
Amazing you're awesome man 8) and thanks to the camera man
So archeologists say the Maya moved their biggest monoliths at the BEGINNING??...sounds awful similar to another pretty well known civilization
I'm genuinely trying to understand why their biggest and most impressive pyramids/monoliths appear in the beginning and tend to decline gradually?
How do you become a member of the channel to watch members only videos
they also built over existing structures 2,000 year old structures built over and encapsulate even older structures
none of the dating is reliable and likely represent the only the latest dates
Commenting to appease the Sun God (algorithm)- great video as always
Jesus Christ what a completely different world filled with completely different human beings. What I would give for a glimpse into their every. daylife. How long did it take you to trek out there?
The video is deceptive. It's a tourist site; you drive maybe two hours down a rough road to a parking area. From there it's a short hike on wide paths to any of the pyramids. But this guy likes being theatrical and making you think he's Indiana Jones discovering a lost city in the jungle ;) It's an incredible place though; I was there in December.
Yes this is an archaeological site called Calakmul. Quite a long drive to get out there that day.
Other sites we visited in this series are quite literally in the middle of nowhere that we had to walk to for about 2hrs - last episode will be amazing
Was that music Jean Sbelius - Finlandia at the start of the video?
"AMERICA",the blindfold has fallen off.thx for the vid!
What is the oldest Maya or Olmec site?
No one knows! It probably hasn’t been discovered yet.
Oldest we know of so far is El Mirador!
@@lukecaverns okay, oldest known site then
Is that close to Uncharted Music?? :o
that is wild!!! im here from Danny show
Your next video better be "...and yet, we found it" 😂
We did. Last episode.
@@lukecaverns oh, yes. sorry, I thought of Lost City Z, my bad xD
So each Mayan city was devoted to a specialized area of science?...
One was to study the Sun, Another the moon?...
So following that logic could we find a city devoted to flight?
What happened to all the people ~ was it always jungle
They are still there ancient languages are still being spoken
The obsession with 'biggest', 'oldest', and all other superlatives is an obsession of United States culture. Big, does not mean better. It can mean not as well planned or thought out.
You're a handsome fella, Luke, but in the future I do think the camera could be focused more on the things you're talking about and pointing at. Otherwise some excellent content.
Please wear snake boots.
in 300 years they will have fun¿🤐
Luke.... they are not "tribes". They are organized dynastic urban centres lead by ruling families and and aristocracies of other noble families. This would not be a "tribal attack". This was the same value of attack as the late medieval English king and his courtiers and warriors choosing to attack the French king and his courtiers and warriors. You minimalize them by referring to them as "tribes".
"Real Indiana Jones" is such an overused term, but you actually look like you could be a movie star, and you are, well, a real person, not a fictional character. Thankfully, you haven't needed to fist-fight giant Nazis or have a crazed Kali-worshipper try to rip your still-beating heart from your chest...
I hope your channel success gives you many opportunities to succeed, discover many things, and spread your passion for our ancient history.
New cameraman please my lord
Indy is a joker! he needs is all staff around him, cinema is so in-sided!
So this is indys real son
Content is great, fire the camera person. Never move your foreground subject and background at the same time. The shaky camera effect went out with jj abrams.
