My first Hourglass purchase was the Ambient Edit 4, and I love that thing so much. At this point, I've used up both setting powders and the bronzer completely. I've made a really nice dent in the highlighter there as well, so because of that, I bought the Ghost palette last year. I don't love it quite as much as the 4, but it's still very good. Thanks for your review -- I guess I don't need this year's version! I've still got most of the Ghost palette to get through, so I can skip and hope next year's version is improved. I really just want Hourglass to sell a customizable version of that six pan layout with refillable pans, so I can create my perfect palette and refill as necessary. ^_^

This was helpful. I was so excited for this year's since everyone raved about the ghost palette and I couldn't get it. I'm more interested in the smaller 4 pan one though so I would love to see a review.
Really wanted to love the 6 pan palette this year, last year’s was a bit too warm for my taste. The math was extremely, extremely helpful. Thank you for including it. Your swatches, application and math put this firmly in the “not this year” category. I’m still looking at the 4 pan palette. Thank you so much for this video. You saved my wallet a major amount. 😻💙💙
I just can't justify the cost of this pallet. While it is gorgeous, I'd rather get the full sized products from hourglass. I can't have it all, but their finishing powder is a must have for finishing off my makeup. It blends everything and gives an airbrushed finish that doesn't add any texture to my late 40s face. It doesn't cling to dry patches and maintains radiance throughout the day. It makes office lighting somehow more flattering.
There is no doubt these products are expensive. I wish I could find an alternative, but the supposed dupes don't come close. But I still hold out hope one will come along soon! I've tried several and so far, none compare.
It is a shame hourglass didn't put the same quality in their holiday pallet. It is so disappointing when a brand does this.

Also, be aware that the normal travel size powders from hourglass are also expensive considering the full sizes. If you would buy 6 travel sizes, you would pay more than 80$! :)
Yes! I actually mentioned that in the review... I know there are a lot of factors that go into pricing but this just doesn't seem like a great value to me considering all of the info I gathered 😅 Not terrible by any means, just not great for me.

Fantastic breakdown and comparison of the price and shades! Half of this palette is way too dark for my super pale skin. Thanks for saving me some money. I was going to ask for this as a gift now I can request something more suited for my skintone

Thanks for your honesty,! Any of the Hourglass travel size or multi palettes are ALL grossly overpriced! I refuse to buy any of them. I will buy a full size of specific products but none of these because they’re a total rip off and Hourglass knows it and just gouges their customers year after year. I absolutely love the finishing powders but these can stay on the shelf at the store.

The 4 pan palette from this year is just a condensed version of the ghost palette you love from last year. However, I don't know if it's the same formula or quality but I hope it's the same.

Hey Amanda, I bought the Mini Quad and love it! I missed out on the original Unlocked so this time I grabbed the Mini right away. The Sculpture palette is so pretty but I already have the Ambient OG and a blush palette so didn't think I needed that one. I used all 4 shades in the Mini Unlocked on my face and eyes, the shades are pigmented and so pretty! I hope this helps!
I was thinking about getting this. I've never tried HG but wanted to try the 2 Dim light and the Ambient Lighting.

The Unlocked palette from last year is a bonus palette release (also a re-release from 2018). This year the quad they have released is their bonus palette and contains 4 of the 6 products in that Unlocked palette you love from last year, so defo don't buy it as you have the products. The 'unlocked' element refers to their charity donation of 5%.
Their actual holiday 2019 release was the Ambient Lighting Edit Ghost.

I got the Hourglass holiday palette in the year previous to Ghost (the one that was a full metal packaging) and I am still in love with it. You are dead right that it lasts forever. It might be expensive but Hourglass holiday palettes are incredible. Their new caution mascara is soooo good too. And their translucent powder is amazing too. I buy a mix of both high end and drugstore (chemist in Australia). I think sometimes you need to go all out just for the quality and longevity. I don’t think I will ever hit pan ... they are generous sizes.
I bought last year's Ghost EDIT palette. I really like it. I think it was a good way to try out the brand. But I will probably not buy a second 6-pan palette until I've hit pan on my first one. Those things last a long time.
Hesitated getting the large palette for these exact reasons. I went for the Sculpture Unlocked Mini Quad which I LOVE! All the shades are beautiful and most importantly..useable! :)

What brush do you use for your bronzer? I'm switching up my brushes and keep seeing people use a brush like the one you did.
I ummed and awed about the 2019 Ghost Unlocked palette. I jumped off the cliff and bought it as a birthday present to myself. It was the first Hourglass product I have purchased. I am a WOC and wholeheartedly loved this palette. I use it often. It was worth every dollar. HG status. Thank you for saving me from blowing my birthday funds this year ;) #iloveyourface
Had you bought 6 powders in the mini size, it is good value to buy the palette. The mini pans are the same size as the ones in the palette. It is a good way to buy and try especially if you don't already have these shades. I will be getting it because I love the size of these palettes. I only have Dim light in the full size. It is personal preference if you like a blinding highlight or a subtle one. I think if you tried a different brush for your highlight and sprayed it you might enjoy the result a little more. Thanks for your review. Everyone is different. Don't get the 4 pan as you already have it with your Ghost palette from last year. Its an edited version with 4 of the 6 shades. They brought it back because that Unlocked version for the last few years has been by far their best seller and most loved palette. Its also their charity palette. I bought it in 2018. xx
Should I buy this during the Sephora vib sale or should I wait till Black Friday. Never bought anything Hourglass before, I got gifted a blush and loved it a lot. So not sure if Hourglass gives good sales or at least more than 15%

I wanted the ghost palette so much last year but I've never tried any Hourglass powders so I was worried I wouldn't like the look of them on my skin. My t-zone can get oily so I am worried they would make me look too shiny.
The quad is a re-release of Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked, so if you own the 6 pan Unlocked palette, you already have all 4 shades. I bought the 6 pan Sculpture and it is the best face palette I've ever used. It's also the first Hourglass product I've ever used, so I don't have much to compare it too LOL. The highlighter is very soft on me as well, but I'm going to try to blend it with the Diffused Light setting powder and see if that kicks it up a notch. Wish HG would increase their shade range on their holiday palettes so there's options! Appreciate your honest, well thought out reviews!

I bought the 4 pan pallet for travel! Ironic considering I have already had 2 big vacations cancelled, and we are really not sure where we will be able to go during the upcoming holidays?? It arrived today and is gorgous! I will keep you posted on quality and use.

I bought the quad and it was $75 CAD 😭 I had major FOMO over the original unlocked palette but despised the ghost packaging lol. I was a bit disappointed in the pan sizes... Considering the price... However the shades are stunning but it still hurts to use it 😂

I really wanna buy the quad, but I don't know when of if I can ever bite the bullet. Most single pan blushes I own are 6-8g, so that price for that same amount in an entire palette... damn.
The Hourglass face palettes are amazing!! That’s too bad that this year’s palette is lackluster. I have a 3 pan highlighter palette that I also LOVE!!

Fun thing! BeautyNews destroyed the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked palette 2 years ago on their Makeup Breakup series to actually weigh the powders and calculate the value since they were also aware of the lack of value. It's a pretty interesting video to watch, and they actually found that there was a surplus of product than the claimed weights, increasing the value. Do highly recommend checking it out if you are interested.

When I saw this palette, I thought of you because I remember how much you loved the ghost unlocked palette from last year lol. I was def interested in ghost unlocked last year, but the ambient lighting palette def seems lackluster and not something I'd get use out of half of it. If it was within my price range, I'd still pass.

The 4 pan palette is 4 repeat shades from the Unlocked palette - completely the same so no new shades but the other palette isn't available now

I really didn’t like this years palette. I returned it. I have the ambient palette (the pink one) from 2018 and I adore it. Most beautiful shades. Last year I purchased the ghost blush palette, which had beautiful blush shades. This year’s palette’s bronzer was a terrible tone on my skin (MAC N2) and the two blush shades were basically dupes for the shades in the pink ambient light. Wasn’t worth keeping. I too have been dying for Mood exposure, but once I tried it against the shades from the previous two palettes I have, just not worth keeping.
I agree with your conclusion on this product. This is my first HG purchase and I am underwhelmed with the payout of some of the shades and the quality for the price. I bought it in the Sephora sale but will be returning it. Much more expensive in Canada even with the discount. To be honest, a lot of the products that I have been buying lately from YT beauty influencers have been disappointing to me. I think I need to rely on my own opinions going forward.

Omg the price is eeeexactly why I don’t have a hourglass palette... I just pick my highlighter from them and buy a single one.. thing is I can basically curate my favorite bronzer and blush and they can even get luxury for all I care because even after all that price per gram it’s still cheaper than the palette. As for their blushes and bronzers, aren’t they just marbled in their highlighter? I might as well pick a blush/bronzer color I like and buff their highlighter in.
Tempted.. the packing is so beautiful and so nice to have a palette instead of singles but not worth it imo ...

I think the math is wrong. You looked at the full size options to get the comparisons but the ones in the palette are the size of the minis. So the math breakdown should have been based off of the price per gram of the mini singles. Right?
I bought the hourglass quad this year. The selling point was that both palettes are vegan. Mood exposure is not vegan but for these palettes they somehow made it vegan 🌱
That's a bummer, I'm disappointed for you that it's not great. Not that I was going to run out and get it even if it was amazing just due to that being out of my price range. On a positive note: I love the stickers I got from you. I put them on my makeup organizer where I see them everyday.
I have a single "Diffused Light" setting powder that is contained in this palette. Hourglass' highlighter or setting powder might not as shinny or poping as other products in the market, but I do think they can create a natural but distinctive look when using them. I personally use diffused light as a natural highlighter for my forehead and under eyes, and it works very well for adjusting my facial structures while not making the whole face look weird. Feel sad to hear about that it's a let down for you. But just hope my comment will make this palette more useful for u :）
I feel that the opinion on the performnce is down to the individual preference. I have Ghost palette (not the unlocked version) from 2019 and I LOVE the subtle glow-from-within highlighter whereas 2020 ambient lighting edit mini (quad) highlighter is too much for me. I am pale so I do not like heavily pigmented make up. Clearly, the author has opposite preferences to me. Ultimately, after watching reviews, I decided to skip this year 6-pan version as it's very similar to my Ghost palette (which I very much love) so if you love natural glam I'd give the 2020 palette a go.
Love you and love your channel, but I just want to put it out there that Hourglasses powders are finishing powders and not setting powders. Maybe you’ll like them better that way.
I use them pretty much interchangeably since I have dry + more mature skin I do not layer my powders!
The pallet is 89€ in eu... Which is 104 us $ sooo.... I wish i could get it for 80$ which would be 68€...
I wished they could have created a fair/light and a medium/dark palette - the bronzer and highlight in this are too dark for me! And the blushes and ambient powders are too light for darker skin 😔

I'll watch just about any content you produce but I can't support Hourglass. They have yet to make a holiday release (or any release, really) that can be used by anyone and not just those who have fair to medium complexions.
Value is relative. You’re paying for the convenience of the shades being hand selected for you and three shades that are only available in that palette.
These holiday palettes are really meant for the collector or the person who has been wanting to try some things from Hourglass...but never quite pulled the trigger because buying several things would have been expensive. It’s so someone can see what they like from the brand without making such a HUGE commitment. Just a full sized highlighter, blush, and Ambient powder would be WAY more than this. This palette is an Ambient powder buffet. LOL. I get your reasoning. Trust me. I look at cost per gram too. I just don’t think THESE products are made for that type of value.
I also don’t think you can compare a palette that’s a year old to a brand new one, as far as how well they swatch. I’ve found that my Hourglass powder products almost perform better as time goes on. It’s like I’ve worn down that initial dome a bit, and they just deposit product better. That’s been my experience with most baked powder products.
I def agree value is relative. I mentioned in this review that I realize so many factors go into pricing a product and buying the singles would be way more expensive! But, especially at this point in time, a lot of people can't afford to pay *so* much for convenience and/or exclusive shades. My Ghost Unlocked performed like an absolute treasure from the first swipe. If I'm shelling out $80+ dollars for a single product, I expect it to be a dream from beginning to end. This one isn't for me and in my honest opinion, that's why I can't recommend it 😓
