  • We supply our billet clutch basket for the MT09/FZ09 as a fit yourself kit, there is some grinding required to remove the old basket from the OEM drive gear, it can be a daunting task to do something like this if you've never seen it done before so here is a walk through showing the steps required.

    You can just tap some threads in the OEM clutch baskets. Seen it done on forums. I’m sure the billet one is a nice upgrade potentially… if you feck up the OEM one.

    Ok, so when you have to replace the bushings again, what then? Just force the screws out? Seems like the Allen heads will strip long before the bolts come loose

    • @jackle3002
      @jackle3002 Місяць тому

      Why? Locktite seal can be broken with heat, peened material can be reversed. The punch only provides the most minimal resistance to the bolt unwinding from vibration.

      @jackle3002 red loctite is permanent, blue would be a better choice here by far. Yes you can get it out, but if you use the correct loctite from the get go you don't have to worry. Also you better let the loctite dry and harden before running it and mixing it into oil.

    Also for those asking yz450 bushings are direct drop in from everything I've seen.

      I don't think (at March 2022) there are any to buy anywhere. If someone is making them please post where.
      There are still old 2019 / 2020 adverts for Hinson MT09 rubbers polluting web searches, but nothing more recent. At March 2022 the Hinson site doesn't have MT09 rubbers.
      So, to get rubbers it seems one has to get them out of a wrecked bike (suspect wear) or buy the whole OEM basket (about AU$600) from Yamaha, disassemble it, take out the rubbers' and put them into the Extreme version (another AU$600 or so).
      If it's the rubbers that are the issue as opposed to a broken basket, without rubbers, the otherwise excellent Extreme basket is irrelevant.
      😞 😞😞
      I very much regret buying my MT09. Yamaha's cost cutting / built in obsolescence over a number of key areas (throttle body) becomes an issue around 30,000kms, spoils an otherwise excellent value for money bike. I hope Yamaha reads this.

    Hello.
    Thank you for the video.
    I have a Yamaha FZ09 or as it calls here in Brasi - MT09.
    it has made a noise in the clutch system, I believe the bearing of the pressure plate.
    if you have any recommendations, I am grateful.
    Should I make this improvement too?
    I notice a blow in the chain at the moment of the 1st gear, has there to do with this damping system?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Gday what is the purpose of the new basket?

    • @2wheelsTin
      @2wheelsTin 6 років тому

      new basket suppose to be stronger and has more wear and tear resistance to the OEM clutch basket. Alot of fz riders are considering this basket because the OEM clutch basket can't handle much abuse like clutch up wheelies or hard launches and ended up cracking or breaking into pieces. hope this helps

      The 2017+ slip/assist clutches are lame for launching, lame for lever feel. Going back to pre 17 parts would be a good start. But I guess even those are weak compared to billet baskets.

    What kind do you use for instead rivets you use bolt right?

    • @benshaw6652
      @benshaw6652 5 років тому +1

      Yes the bolts hold the assembly together, they don't take any radial load, the machined bosses take all the radial load.

    Hey hopefully someone can give me a answer to my problem ima try to break it down best as possible, So I have a 2019 Yamaha MT 09 that has 18k miles with a few mods like a ECU Flash, SC Project Exhaust, Quick Shifter, K&N Filter.. When im in my higher gears mostly going fast giving it full throttle my bike will rev higher than supposed to while losing power but I’m still able to up & down shift with no problem and take off in 1st gear with no delay I was told it’s most likely my clutch plates but the dealership wasn’t 100% sure they said they never heard of this problem if you was having these issues as well or know what’s going on I will really appreciate any advice..

      Sounds like your clutch is slipping, it may be worn, put a genuine clutch kit in it , they replace the fibre plates, steels & springs.

      I had a similar problem but my bike wouldn't slip enough to get to redline, it would only slip about 2k rpm after 7k rpm. Turns out my clutch basket exploded and a friction plate shattered.
