Great tutorial. I was on the fence of getting this pedal know I’m torn between the Movall Falling Star (delay) and the M-vave Mini Universe (reverb). Might even end up getting both. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
The design has changed on the unit I received recently. The on/off button is different - four contacts, only two being used I think, and putting a resistor across the contacts didn't work. So, there is still a slight 'pop' switching on and off. It is possible to avoid the pop by turning down the mix to minimum - or just leave it on and use the mix to remove the reverb
The problem is not really the knobs but those plastic shafts of the potentiometers. Quite a few cheapo pedals are coming with them now (like Irin pedals, among others).
Have you ever used the Hologram Microcosm pedal? One thing I would like to do is have the ability to create an output that sends a clean signal, so that I have a stereo signal with one channel clean and the other with an effect. Currently I achieve this by splitting the signal at the source and putting it on two different channels of the mixer. But it would be much more convenient to have it on the pedal directly

Just got one of these from Aliexpress....and well, the good news is mine doesn't have any pop - the switch seems to have been upgraded by the manufacturer to a soft touch switch (with no click or pop to it). My guess is they've heard the complaints about the cheap pedal and rectified its known annoying trait. Great sounding pedal for cheap as chips money. The pots seem a bit flimsy though but for £19 I can't really complain I'd expect this pedal do last years as long as i'm not heavy handed with the pots or stomp on them...great sounding bargain pedal.

Hey mate... I don't know if I am the most indicated person to answer you precisely, as I saw this solution on several forums, but anyway I can tell you what I have in terms of info: the Pop on the Mini U happens because when the footswitch is engaged, the 9V input circuit inserts a peak of Voltage caused by some mistake of project. What this additional resistance makes is the attenuation of this peak when engaged the footswitch, connected to the 9V power bus. I hope it can help you! 🎛️🔥

@@RiffsRigs Thanks for the response. Is there a way to know which pads are the ones I need to connect to? Also, do I have to use two resisters like you did in the video, or could I just use one with a higher value?
Tanto o mini quanto o grande sao fenomenais!
I did this mod and it works!! However, my particular Mini Universe pedal needs to be shut down and then rebooted every time otherwise it doesn't work. Ah, well...
That's strange mate... this was happening on the beginning, before I did the mod. Maybe try switching the resistors and resoldering it... hope it helps! 🎛️🔥
@@RiffsRigs The AliExpress one is not marked well but the Amazon one is BUT... you have to buy 100 of them. lol I understand why but I really don't know what I'd do with the other 98 that won't use. Ha ha!
Another mod that you can do is to break the narrow trace between the top and middle pins - this completely mutes the pedal when switched off (it doesn't pass the original dry signal). I find this useful when using many pedals in parallel (with a splitter / mixer) to avoid phasing issues between dry signals coming through multiple pedals.
Or you can just use a cell phone charger to power it through the USB-C port. It gets rid of ALL of the issues with this pedal and you don't have modify and possibly destroy your pedal this way. I argued with the seller for over 30 days trying to get a refund and they refused. Wanted me to pay $55 to ship it back to China just to get a $25 refund. Didn't matter how many times I explained that to the seller. They insisted I pay return shipping on a defective pedal 🤦 So I escalated it to PayPal and explained the shipping price issue to them. They said they completely understood and I shouldn't have to pay shipping for that. So they offered me a voucher for the cost of the pedal and I didn't have to return it. I gladly accepted it. It wasn't cash but more like a coupon for $27.xx that i could use on any PayPal purchase. It was only after they did that when I realized it works PERFECT using a 5v cell phone charger instead of a pedal power supply or battery.
Strange strange... never saw it before. Anyway, some of those have this issue of constant hum, which can be solved with two capacitors added in Parallel between the 9V Circuit and the Board! Maybe try resoldering it first mate! I hope it helps! Cheers! 🎛️🔥

Mine i fixed the trails of it... by using the fx loop pedal as activator ( fx loop send to mvave IN.. guitar to fx loop IN) Then not routing the out of mvave to return of fx loop. Instead make a PARALLEL route out.. out of mvave to B of ABY ped out of fx loop ped to A of ABY ped then combining the route to C of ABY out to ur amp ( ABY is on A&B mode always for the continous signal flow for the trails) ... Mvave always stay ON Just activate it using the fx loop switching signal It fix the trails . I am actually in the middle of doing this mod because using the USB-C charging input DID NOT get rid of the huge pop/click when activating the pedal, however it DID remove the whining noise.
Make more vids like this. Taking cheap pedals and modding them to be competitive to $100 ones.
Thanks a lot mate! I am working on more projects like this! This week I will release a review of the Pure Sky (Timmy Clone) and later I will do the JSA MOD on it! 🎛️🔥
great mod! Will that work on the Mary cries by PRS because it is a fabulous peddle but man does it explode when I click it! I really would like to use it as a boost pedal but this is a deal killer for me.
If the issue of the pop is because of a peak of voltage, for sure it solves! I think it is worth the try! Just be sure to do not overheat your circuit board when soldering it! You can damage your pedal!
can this be done on other pedals that has pop sound when pressing on and off
If the issue is a Voltage peak, for sure you can! :)
Excellent information!!! Thanks
Is there anyway you can mod the trails of this effects?
Not that I know mate... as it is true bypass and not buffer bypass...
Obrigado viajante do tempo! Notas de projeto corrigidas! 😎 Hasta la vista baby! 🎛️🔥
Mine doesn't pop. In fact it doesn't make any sort of sound at all. It's stopped working!
Ouuuuuch mate! Mine is still surviving after 3 months!
its a Great pedal !......anyone know how to leave "Tails On" instead of off with the footswitch ?
It is a little bit more complex project, but If I will get to it, for sure there will be video here! Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
This is a huge help man! Sadly, i sold mine a few months ago. I might consider buying again if I have the money hahahaha
I'll link your video on my facebook post this will definitely help a lot of musician friends.
Thanks a lot mate! It is still time to buy another piece! Aliexpress is in sale from 15th to 19th! 🔥🎛️
does that work with the demonfx ghost echo and the demonxf 66 as well ? the pedals have the same issue. Thx mate
It is worth trying it out! If the root cause of the issue will be a peak of tension when the footswitch is engaged, it for sure works!
@@RiffsRigs thank you for the help man!
I'll give this a go. I had already tried 1M resistors between input/output and ground but that didn't work.
This one for sure will! Trust me! =)
Received mine today. Have it on a power bank. And not in chain with anything else. 'have no popping sound when activate. So maybe they fixed it...
They solved in the new ones! 🎛️🔥
This worked perfectly, thanks!
I am glad mate! Cheers! 🎛️🔥
What value resisters???
I have used two resistors of 1W 220K! Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
My Mosky CH Vibe pops like hell. Would this mod work for that too?
It is worth the try! I don't have ir here, but some colleagues asked the same! I think there is no harm! 🎛️🔥
@@RiffsRigs Thanks for the response. Is there a way to know which pads are the ones I need to connect to? Also, do I have to use two resisters like you did in the video, or could I just use one with a higher value?
Can I do this mod with a 2.2 mega ohm resistor?
I think so! saw many people doing with higher values! I think it is worth the try! 🎛️🔥
@RiffsRigs I also have a M-vave mini amp pedal. Do you think this trick applies too?
@RiffsRigs uses a 510K resistor turns out to work very well to eliminate mini universe explosions. Thank you, buddy
@@hafizhnav Probably yes! If the issue is the same peak of tension that the power circuit injects when the 3PDT is engaged, for sure yes!
@RiffsRigs is the way the same? By adding a resistor to the switch component leg like in a mini universe?
Can I try this for “pop”in mosky effect ?
It is worthy trying it, but not all the cases of Pop are generated by the same reason...Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
Tanto o mini quanto o grande sao fenomenais!
Tu é brasileiro, irmão? Esse sotaque entrega ❤
Sim senhor! 🙌🏻
Thanks for sharing the tip, man! Subscribed!! 🤘🏿🤘🏿
Welcome mate!!! Cheers! 🎛️🔥
Hi! This Mod no damage the pedal? Thanx you
No damages! Just be careful to do not overheat the circuit board! If you will not overheat it, no risks! 🎛️🔥
Thank you from Italy!
@emanuelscomparin Prego! Un piacere! 🇮🇹🤌🏻
How about resistor 1w-200k its only i have and available is it possible to work???
It is worth the try!! 🎛️🔥
I've tried 1watt 200k sometimes it work sometime it's not...
worked like a charm, thanks
I am glad it helped! 🔥🎛️
thanks bro, my knobs are so hard to take of
Patience is the key. Try to force a little, rotate the knob a little... force on the other side... 🎛️🔥
Good idea!! Go😊
Thanks Neto!! 💪🏻
Done. Thx🙏🏽
You are welcome mate!! 🎛️🔥
Now if you can solve the high pitch Wine without using a separate power supply.
There is a solution, but you will need to mod the 9V Plug feeding... using 2 capacitors... I will record a video showing it soon! Cheers mate!
@@RiffsRigs Please do!! Thank you.
just opened mine and there are 4 solder points instead of 6 like yours
This is the new model mate. I am trying still to get one to check how to solve it! Sorry for it...
@@RiffsRigs oh ok , thx mate no worries
@@RiffsRigs worked fot the demon fx ghost echo tho , thx man!!!
@@RiffsRigs Nah! lol It works well enough and it was kind of a pain to get the knobs off.
Are those 4.7k resistors?
There are the specs in the link on the description mate!! 🎛️🔥
@@RiffsRigs The AliExpress one is not marked well but the Amazon one is BUT... you have to buy 100 of them. lol I understand why but I really don't know what I'd do with the other 98 that won't use. Ha ha!
@@genenery9315 You can use them for treble bleed circuits! 😂 Probably it is better to find at some local components store! 🎛️🔥
@@RiffsRigs Curiously, my Universe pedal stopped popping last night! So weird.
It is a good suggestion mate! Thanks for sharing it! 🎛️🔥
They insisted I pay return shipping on a defective pedal 🤦
So I escalated it to PayPal and explained the shipping price issue to them.
Thank you for this tip sir
You are welcome mate!!
Did the mod but it created a constant hum
Strange strange... never saw it before. Anyway, some of those have this issue of constant hum, which can be solved with two capacitors added in Parallel between the 9V Circuit and the Board! Maybe try resoldering it first mate! I hope it helps! Cheers! 🎛️🔥
how about the trails bruh?
No trails mate... it is True Bypass... so unfortunately not possible to solve it! On the end of the day, it is still a 30 bucks pedal! 🎛️🔥
This video is so damn useful! Thanks
For my AAD 100 amp and tele I need it less then 5 % , better to buy another amp. I like to play guitar not to play with pedals
are you brazilian? you have the característics of brazillian when you speak
Com certeza! 😂
@@RiffsRigs boa KKKKKKKKKKKK
Yup. Takes out the pop ...and takes 2/3 the volume away.
Hey mate... I didn't notice any volume drop on mine... as you can hear on the trial that I did.
Which values of resistors did you use? Check also the soldering if it is ok... I hope it will help!
@@RiffsRigs Mine also has volume drop, i used 1/4W Metal Film Resistors 0.25 Watt 1% Tolerance
Resistance: 2.2K ohm, i am going to retry 1/4W Metal Film Resistors 0.25 Watt 1% Tolerance
Resistance: 1M ohm
0:24
Brilliant ❤
Thanks a lot mate!! 💪🏻🎛️🔥
Thanks!!!! POP is gone!!!
Now you can just ROCK! I am glad mate!! 🎛️🔥
Nice 😊
Mine i fixed the trails of it... by using the fx loop pedal as activator ( fx loop send to mvave IN.. guitar to fx loop IN)
Then not routing the out of mvave to return of fx loop. Instead make a PARALLEL route out..
out of mvave to B of ABY ped
out of fx loop ped to A of ABY ped
then combining the route to C of ABY out to ur amp ( ABY is on A&B mode always for the continous signal flow for the trails) ...
Mvave always stay ON
Just activate it using the fx loop switching signal
It fix the trails . And i hear no popping for initial try .( even ON OFF of mvave itself) but will observe more on higher vol about the popping.. but 100% it fixed the trails..
But takes additional pedals for it.. but for me its worth it..
I suggested it on my review, using the mosky loop box! It also helps to solve the small interuption it gets when engaged and disengaged!
Yes thank you 🇵🇭🇵🇭👍
Excellent video! Subscribing so I don't miss future videos :)
Thanks a lot mate! Welcome to the crew! 🎛️🔥
sotaque Brasileiro, tmjt BR
Sempre! Um abraço! 🎛️🔥
The knob removal technique is bad. If you cant remove it by hand, you can use the rag slide it on the knobs gap and wrap around and you can pull it
For sure it works... I take out from my guitar exactly like that, but some of the mini U's have REALLY hard knobs to remove! Anyway it is an awesome tip! 🎛️🔥
Are you Brazilian ? Hahaha
Sim, claro ou com certeza?
Will this mod work for most pedals?
It is worth trying it, but not for all. Only for cases which the cause is a peak of tension when engaging it! cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
@@RiffsRigsThanks for the reply, I'll give it a go. 😊
