I had a '79 Plymouth Arrow which is basically the same as a Celeste but with a less stylish front grill and rear lights. It was so reliable. I liked the way it looked too and put some big fat tires on it. Apparently, some people liked to modify them into dragsters.

Bob Glidden, who spent almost all of his career in Fords, dominated the 1979 NHRA Pro Stock season in an Arrow after Ford declined to provide more funding for the Fairmont Futura he had run in '78. Unsurprisingly, Dearborn reversed its stance for 1980 and he was back in the Fairmont.

Anyone remember that the first of the 3000GTs arrived at the UK Motor Show in Birmingham and were promptly nicked! They were so rare they were impossible to sell on - or is this just an urban myth?
Also, the flight to Rotterdam in Holland and back to drive my new EVO VI GSR around a car park to satisfy the SUV regulations for the first batch of factory imports (No 302 of 500). However, when it arrived at the UK the keys were handed to me by Tommi Makinen, Sven Smeets and Freddy Loix.
Biggest regret was selling the VI though I had done over 120,000 miles in it, actual distance is a guess as the Km to Miles converter module failed for about 20,000 miles (apparently a common fault). Quite proud that I only replaced the clutch twice. Still have an EVO X FQ360 though.
Most underrated Mitsubishi - 1.6 Space Star. Sliding rear seats a great idea and surprisingly great fun on the limit. Still own one from new which has driven all over the UK and Ireland. Who remembers the Ralliart Space Wagon built as a one off with EVO mechanicals that appeared at the 1997 Network Q RAC Rally at Cheltenham?

Mitsubishi is my favourite manufacturer, I just feel the 90s styling was absolutely spot on and ahead of its time. Engineering is absolutely bulletproof.
I currently own a 99 Evo 6 GSR in Pyrenees Black. And I used to have a 96 Pajero LWB Exceed 2.
I'd really like a 24v Galant. Infact I'd be happy to own any 80s/90s Mitsubishi.
I feel the Renault-Nissan alliance was Mitsubishis downfall. Using the parts bin of decades old Renault and Nissan baked bean tin gearboxes. I'm not surprised Mitsubishi pulled out of Europe.

  • @steveblackbird
    @steveblackbird Рік тому +3

Mitsubishi did make some wonderful cars. The Evo bloodline is one of the most loved of them all. The Pajero was a Paris Dakkar lengend.
As a current and original owner of a white Tommi Makinen Edition here in Aus for 20 years, I'll say one thing, that little 20 year old car can seriously embarrass much more modern performance cars.
I remember when I bought it, I thought I'd have some fun and drag race it. 12.4 sec ET quarter mile and a 0-100 of 4.3 seconds averaged with two opposing runs. That's from a completely standard car. I never modified it as I could never reach the limit driving it as I ran out of talent lol.
Wicked car that to this day is deeply awesome...and turns a lot of heads when out on the road.
My daily drive is a Legnum VR-4. A car that noone notices but has surprised many with it's comfort, handling and sheer outright speed. Awesome cars.
Can't get enough of Mitsubishi. For a company that's motoring arm is quite small, they created some amazing products... not bad for a company that builds aircraft and nuclear reactors lol.

In 2006 I bought a Japanese import 1992 GTO (3000GT) but not really a 3000 GT, because it was non turbo and limited to 112MPH. It did however have four wheel steering and handled well; it was also red and looked great. I purchased a derestriction chip to increase the top speed to 140MPH, so it was not at all shabby. I was in my late fourties at the time, so looking back, I guess it was my midlife crisis car. Afterwards, I bought the E34 BMW M5 shown on my channel. Much more sensible :)

  • @jonnywalker3208

GTO twin turbo is so underrated, yes it's big and heavy but there's nothing quite like being behind the wheel and looking down the long bonnet at those amazing muscular bonnet bulges, the way it raises as you floor it, the sound of those two turbos spooling and that deep V6 bellow ... absolutely LOVED mine and I will always regret selling it 😢 was running 450bhp but because I had no taste it was on 17" three spoke advan wheel 😅😬 sold it to get a more "sensible" car like a complete idiot, for a pittance as well ffs.

The current range topping Skyline GTRs, Supra twin turbos, Evos n Scoobies, RX7 twin turbo, Chasers etc) I normally detest SUVs but this mad, special bubble arched, SWB Shogun looked absolutely mental!
