    As gifted and experienced an auto reporter as Chris is, you’d think he would be showing off his garage filled with million dollar cars. But a Delta 8v is all he needs to have a great time. That’s why I love these videos…as Harry Metcalf says, “it’s all about the driving.”

      I've never understood why people fill a garage with exotic cars but never use them other than to look at in theirgarage? Each to there own, if that's what they want to do, but we never get to see them being driven, which surely is the point of having exotic cars? To be seen in. As you say, Harry and Chris drive the cars they have.

    This mountain road has played a massive part in my life, I’ve driven it since 87 in everything you can think of. The last 33 years I’ve been lucky enough to drive it daily going to work over in Port Talbot steel works, no traffic just 22 miles that take a leisurely 50 minutes with no traffic to upset your day and with some of the most breathtaking views you could wish to see..

    Thanks for this Chris, I bought my first Delta 1300lx when I was 18, breathed on with loads of HF turbo bits. I took a job I really didn't want so I could afford and 8v integrale, which I really wanted. After a highlift cam, BWE chip and boost controller it was very quick. Presently restoring my old evo2 which I daily drove until it died. We have more cars now but the integrale has its own room in the house and I just love it but it will not only be a garage queen, but also a piece of art to look from my Scottish room drinking alcohol only going out for dry days and pampering. Yes its bad but I've wasted so much money daily driving them. The bonnet is not 16v, as with the wheels, they were standard spec on the 8v Cat so please leave them both alone.

    So, love what you're doing about just driving it & not concerned that it's not a show car etc, life is short, but I do think this mindset is also helped by available money you obviously have, that can give a more blasse attitude with cars. For people where 15k is a more noticeable amount to spend, then it's harder for them to not worry about it.

    you drive with a clean attitude
    you are always surprised by how good the "non-hot" version actually is
    it allows you to focus more on the joys of driving

    I had an 8V right hand drive was converted by Richard Thorne garage from new and Lancia apparently agree'd to!! Car was nuts fast but used to need 4 tyres ever 3000 Miles :) Mine wasn't that rusty like a few HF Turbo's I've restored. You don't have to slow down for the corners !! I've had grown men screaming for me to slow down :) .. Impreza's are my thing now !! Drive a Car that makes you Smile !!!

    I had a 16V... it was the only car I know of that had stress cracks on tops AND bottoms of A, B and C pillars.. Body had the torsional stiffness of a overcooked spaghetti and it was quite obvious that is was made to be stripped, welded up and caged... Still, wonderful thing to drive and look at.

    Amazing car ! I have the same passion but no place so I went for a 2002 Ducati Monster 1000 that I will keep forever. Every year on early spring there is some work to be done, screws fastenend and things to be adjusted but it still is a lovely bike to drive. Even after 20 years of ownership.

    Love it! I went to buy a Delta 1600GT when I was 18 or 19. In silver with a steel factory, sunroof, it looked the dog’s. My first car was a SuperStrada with the X19 engine, on which the Delta was based. First junction, had to go from 2nd to 1st, still rolling. Crunch. ‘Sorry. I can’t live with that again’. All Fiats and Lancias did that due to a cable clutch 🥲

    Only this week my boss has offered me a Model 3 and I'm extremely grateful. This means i have to part with my fairly ordinary F30 320d I've owned for nearly 3 years. My first rwd car and I've covered 46,000 miles, managed 715 miles from a full tank (68mpg ish) and also enjoyed Harry's favourite road on numerous occasions. I'm now trying to justify buying a car I've always lusted after Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo...

    Bought a brand new 8v from Germany in 1990 with help from Willie Green (classic race driver), think it was £17k, drove it back overnight and straight to Mike Spence Motorsport for a 300bhp, £3000 conversion. Drove it every day for four years over about 50k miles. Loved every minute. Willie bought it back from me and ran it as his every day car for years. What a great car. Loved your video Chris

    I had an EVO 2 until recently. One of the garage queen models, as CH refers to. I sold it cos I was afraid to drive it, it was worth so much. And so much more than I paid for it. It got to the point where I thought every single mile I put on it would devalue it. Crazy, I know.

    • @lknowledge
      @lknowledge Рік тому +1

      I know that feeling. Owning a classic from the 90s and people are calling me crazy because I actually drive it even during the winter and use it as my daily. Yes, it will rust and I will have to fix it, yes it will loose its low mileage status but boo hoo, it will get marks from driving it... But still at times when I drive through the finnish salt covered roads (salt to prevent ice forming) I feel bad and think that I should have bought a worse example (mine is full original lowish mileage car with all the paperwork, museum registered etc).

    In France, there are RHD tollbooths. You have to choose the right lane, but once you're in, the machine is at your right elbow. On the Dartford crossing there aren't any LHD tollbooths (as of pre-pandemic). I just get out of the car and saunter round to the machine whilst enjoying the horn concert.
