I would love to employ this young mechanic in Australia. He will make a killing out of rebuilding engines especially diesel. Here we drive our cars until 1 million kilometres. Engine rebuilds are very popular but very few have the technical knowledge
In Australia? Very few have technical knowledge?? Your kidding me. Western countries especially Australia have readily available parts so rebuilds are a common occurrence.
Mi i thought wokabi tena ako kwa King Kaka little did its this fellow who is knowledgeable than u can think The guy did it simple and clear ....wokabi keep going
Mr. Director, this video you need is an English caption for the Swahili conversation part. Your audiences beyond the borders will appreciate. This is a great show.
Hi Erick, Love your shows. Can you guys capture from above please so we can clearly see when explaining or pointing to some of those components. It would help more. Thanks
Rebuild labor is fairly affordable in 🇰🇪 so indeed it is an option. However, not every engine is suitable for rebuild. Thankfully majority of us are in the 4- cyl NA category! The tolerances of these modern light-weight Aluminum alloy engines is less forgiving than that of any old iron horse. Couple that with finding a competent mechanic who’ll precisely check all tolerances, inspect & replace all worn components, utilize a good machinist/engineer, source genuine kits then rebuild to spec 😰 I’d rather take my chances on a 100K JDM vs one hurriedly built in a dusty environment with no specialty tools.
Really eye-opening! We have been given the wrong advice for a while. We're usually told to buy slim engines, but many engines can actually be fixed. This often means we end up selling our engines as scrap metal by weight. I sold mine for 6k 😵💫. Thanks, Erick!
As long as the block is ok..and all the other components attached to the block ziko sawa..theres no need to buy a whole engine..ata cylinder head unanunua kama imechongwa more than three times..
Highest quality is CK like Erick with a CK. Hio ni ya wenye imewapita. 😂😂😂😂 Good job guys. Ata mimi nimekua nikifikiria engine imefunguliwa is inferior. Asanteni sana for demystifying this notion.
My Mazda Tribute ilileta shida ya engine and the mech akasema it needs to be rebuilt! You guy! I did three rebuilds in a span of three weeks! Hiyo kitu ilikua expe mbaya! Eventually he advised we get another engine. I of course used Fundi mwingine on that but at that moment I shifted my mind to preferring ex-Japan over rebuilt engines! Let’s just say fundi ni shida! I am glad that @Erick unatupatia watu legit!
This is great content Wokabi. We hope to see more of this. Halafu wekea sub-titles wale hawaelewi Swahili. Lastly,I know we have people watching who ask themselves how they can be Mechanics.Kindly be dedicating the last three minutes on how to be a mechanic like your resource person.
Nice content 1kd indicator of, valves gasket wearing out is smoke after first spark in the morning, engine failure can also be due to substandard service parts, oil filters some suck the oil filter seals in the block and can cause slow knock or oil pump failure. Nice and informative content🙏
Its very true i replaced a hr15 engine coz the one i had was overheating then after 1 month the one i had started to leak coolant in to the combustion chamber n had multiple misfires .i had to reface the cylinder head n replace the head gasket
2:16 Nimeona karai nikafikiria mnakatakata engine to deep fry it!! 😄😄😄(Oh its an cold drain thing). Anyway, Keep up the good work Erick, really informative.
I am all for rebuilding my engines. Proud owner of a pajero io GDI(pass down from folk). Lots of people don't like them juu ya kuchoma oil. Yangu ilianza in 2020 and we decided instead of buying another engine, to open it up and rebuild. The only thing that was wrong with the engine was rings zili sieze, whole cost of the overhaul was 30,000 including parts and labour. Another engine, used would have cost 100k, so I've saved money and still have an engine whose service record I fully know of. Used engine hujui how it was maintained while in the car it was.
Demio yangu ilichoma gasket apo ndio nilijua hii mambo practical but majina zilikua mkono vikombe na the likes,,, now i get to know their real terminologies 🤣🤣
Great content as always. Kindly plan for a session ya fuel system maintenance / best practices session, especially for modern diesels. Talk about the common rail & injectors to begin with. Many thanks.
I agree overhauling is the best way,i have 1999 Noah with 3S which has valve seals leaking oil but the compression is okay.....my issue with ovehauling is the parts are not available and we dont hv mechanics with the skills to follow step by step reassembly with a manual for all the torgue specifications for the nuts and bolts especially for the head & the cams simlessly like the way @m39 restorations does.......so for now i just add oil its cheaper.
Eric next do coolants too there are so many off the shelf coolants, and the common use water( esp distilled & purified ) advice. Can you also revisit the engine oil topic
Point of collection on point of engine overheating, when it overheat cylinder head expands and when it cools down it fails to sleep on its actual position, so automatically it will not be able to compress................
I did one rebuild and overheating continued. A few head gaskets later and after head resurfacing it started smoking. I gave up and went for an engine replacement.
Hi Wokabi,, please tell me where this garage is i have this mech check out my car. I have the issues you have explained. My piston rings are worn out, tensioner is rattling at 2000rpm and water pump worn out though the vehicle is not smoking yet. My mech tells me doing a slim engine replacement is a better option but i had my doubts over the same reasons you have mentioned and i was ready to repair the all the worn out parts. I would like Mwaura to do a review of the engine on anything else as a second option since i prefer rebuilding.
Can u plz tell us the location of Mwaura's garage. I got cars... actually Toyota Hilux Vigos d-cab...one manual the other auto but Kuna vitu zimehanda mafundi wangu
There is another story that if you open up your engine it will never go back normal. some people have adopted it. I dont think its true. but get the right mechanic.
I agree with this content 100%. i have overhauled three of my diesel engines and I can tell, rebuilding is waaaaaaay better than buying slim engines.Share contact ya huyu msee. i am about to overhaul my fourth engine, a 4JG2.I would like some insights on it
very educative, my car idles rough.. rich bank 1 sensor 2 {P2271 code Suzuki} kindly does it mean my O2 sensor has gone bad? if i replace it do i go back to smooth idle? please
I have this question....since world wide there is registration of cars...is there a way u can get information on a re-used or the so called ex Japan engine about there millage
😏😏🤒 @erickwokabi tell those camera guys wazoom na wafocus on the content, sura ya mwenye anaongea isn't important, thank you.
I would love to employ this young mechanic in Australia. He will make a killing out of rebuilding engines especially diesel. Here we drive our cars until 1 million kilometres. Engine rebuilds are very popular but very few have the technical knowledge
In US is opposite , replacing engine and transmission is common bcos mechanics like replacement.
@peterkmwangi5963 USA labour is very expensive such that it makes replacement the cheaper option
In Australia? Very few have technical knowledge?? Your kidding me. Western countries especially Australia have readily available parts so rebuilds are a common occurrence.
You can just get hold of him and discuss your plan.
Perfect

Love this. I did rebuild my own engine btw, she purred back to life without a doubt.
As a qualified technician i recommend rebuilding engine to buying a used engine.Kudos Wokabi and Mwaura. This is a great content and a real eye opener.
This Guy Erick is a legend thank you for taking us to auto engineering school
Tractors na malorry from the 70s are still on the road by being rebuilt. Sijui nani alianzisha hii culture ya slim slim Kenya
Those engines had cash iron blocks. The swapping culture ones are metal alloys. Some like Toyota 1AZ amongst others have fast wearing rings
@@timothykinotikaburu7204 I have IAZ engine in my vehicle. Currently at 450K. Engine still very powerful and very intact.
It’s because of an influx of quacks masquerading ad mechanics. They mostly make money off misadvising clients into car repair rabbit holes.
Slim is as a result of aluminum blocks. It's almost impossible to rebuild an aluminum engine especially after it overheats
@@leomwau5964 Chances are it's been under a good maintenance regime, which is commendable
I'm a big fan of rebuilding since the engine you know is better than the one you don't know. The only issue is sourcing good quality parts.
Hi Wokabi, kindly cover air suspension in your next video. Find experts in this domain and let them educate us.
Hi Erick,
Love your shows.

One simple question I have is why don't mechanics have the right tools for the job - e.g. torque wrenches etc.
