Speaking as a person with a B.S. In Molecular Genetics, I would HIGHLY recommend using a solution of only liquids (like rubbing alcohol or water) with no dissolved solids. This is because liquids will always eventually evaporate completely, leaving no contaminants in the product, while solutions like setting sprays will leave behind solids dissolved in the solution and change the formula of the product. The reason most people use alcohol instead of water is because it evaporates SO much more quickly than water. Any fears of alcohol being bad for your skin are unfounded - yes, alcohol is bad for skin and should be avoided in skincare, but if you wait until your repressed powder product is completely dry, all the alcohol will be evaporated and will never come into contact with your skin.
thank you so much for this comment Sophia, I was wondering how come only alcohol/water is used. I've seen people use pressing mediums of a solution of different oils, what do you think about that?
@@MiaRBeautySorry I just saw this! Oils have much higher boiling points than water or alcohol, so while they do evaporate, they evaporate veeeeeery slowly. So if you repress something with an oil, some of the oil is likely to stick around for good.
This actually helped me because I‘m not English speaking so i didn‘t really know exactly what rubbing alcohol was but I‘m just gonna use alcohol I use to desinfect my earrings
I do the same but I use a spray with the alcohol as it's easier to get an even coverage with the powder thus making it slightly faster and easier. I also press quiet hard using my whole body weight in case of dropping in future and it works awesome.
Great video. I know some people are very intimidated by repressing and this visual should be very helpful for them. Personally, I just take the leap and repress anything that needs it, but I still enjoyed watching!
Just yesterday I used the instructions from your ig stories to repress a bronzer. It was a very helpful visual guide. Thank you for making a video too.
I love your channel ! You are so inspirational and wonderful person! You always motivate me to use products that I already own instead of buying products that I do not really need. This makes your videos so unique and different from others. I highly appreciate your honest, hard and smart work on UA-cam. You deserve millions of subscribers. 😘😘😘❤❤❤
I have only repressed broken eyeshadows, and just broke up and repressed my butter bronzer. I had never thought of doing it to products with significant pan. Thank you for the idea! I used my makeup spatula (Spatty) to stir and pat down before pressing with the paper towel. It worked well!
Kelly you are on I roll with your videos! I had been wondering if I was repressing correctly every time I shattered The Shadow and I would use rubbing alcohol and a quarter to process, you are so amazing I love all your videos!
This came at the perfect time! When I opened my Game of Thrones × UD palette one of the shades just jumped right out 🙄 Thanks for being so thorough with your explanation!
Try to use as little of the alcohol as you can and don’t press really hard, or you’ll never get it to apply on a brush again. I would try to press it without adding the alcohol first, to see if that would work before possibly changing how it applies for ya. Just a friendly suggestion based on my f ups. Lol
1. I would not recommend repressing a Becca highlighter very firmly. It did not pick up on my brush well after I repressed a tiny sample size one and I think I pressed it too tight. 2. I've heard that there isn't high enough alcohol content in setting sprays to use them to repress powders without changing the formula.
I use baby wipes from honest. I have a 2 year old daughter so I always have wipes on hand.. but they are a good plant based option for sensitive skin types.
I just repressed my CoverGirl Clean Powder Foundation, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it will be like after it dries overnight. Thanks for the tutorial, Kelly, you rock! 👍
I just went looking for help with my TF diamond highlighter that I love !!! I tried spraying urban decays all nighter on the bottom of the whole diamond that fell out lol That didn’t work so then I grabbed the shadow glitter glue I had and it worked !!! Lol 😂 this is an older video but I looked up to see who would have the best tips to help me and I found you KELLY !!! 💕
this is going to be so useful when i'll do a depotting spree. last time i tried i had so many collateral victims and shattered shadows that my heart broke alongside the powders lol
I find that I get better results with vodka. Also, there’s a product called Moon Mousse made specifically for this, though I haven’t personally used it.
Thank you! I was about to comment in one of your previous videos how you repress powders. I will definitely try it on two blushes an one powder foundation.
I use the pressure approach them]n spray a lite spray of alcohol for a final press. Now when first pressing I use wax paper last press I use parchment paper
I'm wondering if this might work using a brush cleanser, which has a high percentage of alcohol. I'm thinking of using mine which is the NYX on the spot makeup brush spray cleaner.
Thank you so much I knew that this video was here somewhere scrolled forever looking for it because my dogs knocked over my makeup tower today and three of my palettes got broken and of course the only two I really care about are the $129 Natasha Denona gold palette and the Bailey Sarian palette that I can't replace
In my experience I only got hard pan when I used it accidently when it was still drying. Or if there was oil in the products. Need be just scrape it off.
I use alcohol, but put it in a little spray bottle, rather than using the cap & pouring it on the products. You can get little spray bottles in the bins where the travel size products are at most Target & Walmart stores. They're around a dollar. I LABEL that bottle of alcohol because I keep water in another one & don't want to mix them up.
I ordered the Blacklight and Duolight highlighter palettes from BH Cosmetics and a few pans in the Duolight palette came shattered so I became a chemist although I didn't exactly crumble it that fine and it's not as smooth as yours but whatever, the main point is that I don't need to buy another palette.
Thanks for the tips. I've repressed powders before but next time im going to use the paper towel tip. And does anyone know if this works on baked formulas?

Does rubbing alcohol dry out the formula? I know that some powders have small amount of oils I think. I'm afraid of my powders looking chalky.
I´ve heard some people use contact solution, is that a good idea?

Thanks! I actually pressed my pieces through a small, fine mesh strainer to create a consistent, finer milled product. 😊
I’ve used witch hazel to repress an elf blush! It worked perfectly.

Wow that's cool. Definitely will try that out if I need to! Nice idea that you wont waste it. Love your purple eyes!
For Halloween can you please be The Balm’s Mary Lou? You would be perfect!! ♥️
Kelly you are on I roll with your videos! I had been wondering if I was repressing correctly every time I shattered The Shadow and I would use rubbing alcohol and a quarter to process, you are so amazing I love all your videos!

this nail polish color is so pretty!!!
Just repressed my Tarte paaarty blush using this video as a guide. Can't wait for the results tomorrow!
I’ve never tried this technique about soaking excess alcohol with a paper towel I’ll have to try it next time I repress! Thanks for the tips!
I tried it on my eyeshadow and turned out amazing!
I find that I get better results with vodka. Also, there’s a product called Moon Mousse made specifically for this, though I haven’t personally used it.
Vodka is not for makeup. It has more compounds than rubbing alcohol. can make your skin very unhappy and you really sick
Also grow mold
Thank you! I was about to comment in one of your previous videos how you repress powders. I will definitely try it on two blushes an one powder foundation.
Great video! I’ve always wondered how you repress your makeup. Thanks! 😊
I use the pressure approach them]n spray a lite spray of alcohol for a final press. Now when first pressing I use wax paper last press I use parchment paper
This was super helpful! I have a pressed powder with quite a big pan on it and I've been wanting to repress it but just haven't taken the leap.
Great tips Kelly! I always get freaked out to try to repress lol
Love your eye shadow
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 yes!!! I’ve been needing to learn how to do this thank you so much!!!
I’m glad that it was helpful!

My Nyx Orgasm blush is almost totally panned, I'm going to try doing this this weekend to extend its life a little longer.
Pretty purple eyeshadow look!
I’ve tried this before with rubbing alcohol, but I swear it never applies the same and gets hard pan a lot faster.
In my experience I only got hard pan when I used it accidently when it was still drying. Or if there was oil in the products. Need be just scrape it off.
Last day I repressed a bronzer but I put a little too much of alcohol in it and now it keeps smelling and after a few uses it broke up, again. =(
Yo I used a hair spray😂 It still worked! Just use whatever you want, as long as it’s wet, It’ll work❤️

Perfect timing! I need to repress a blush.
Very helpful video Kelly great tips
Add alcohol. Press down so it stays down. Just like how I repress my feelings.
Me too and heavy on the alcohol 😂 good one
Please do video of pressing eye shadow into a custom shape that be kool
The setting spray does work, that's the way I fix mine
You Can Also Use Witch Hazel 😁
Would this work for a eyeglaze???? I ordered a Kylie eye glaze and it cane broken 😭
Thanks for this video. I have been wanting to know how to do it.
Thanks for the tips. I've repressed powders before but next time im going to use the paper towel tip. And does anyone know if this works on baked formulas?
Definitely does!
@@Erikaahh_Mae thank you for letting me know 👍
Your so talented Kelly sweetie💕✨!
So helpful!!! 💜💜
How does adding rubbing alcohol and other liquids not change the formula?
Thank you so much
This might be a stupid question when you leave it overnight to dry do you close the product or leave it open ?
Shanley I was wondering the same thing
Open so the alcohol can evaporate
This may be a weird question bit when you leave it over night do you keep it open or close it? Greay video btw!
Open 😊
@@just_some_makeup_pans5128 thanks
Thank you for this. Very helpful
What a coincidence, I need to do this with my Mary Lou Manizer too
Monserratt Lorenzo same!
OMG THANKS THIS WORKED
Great video!🤗
This was very helpful thanks!
Does this work for mattes? I imagine mattes and shimmers don't repress quite the same?
It works for both!
@kelly cooch how long have you been on UA-cam
What in i don’t have the alcohol stuff 😅
My perfectionist side says thank you
I saved my Life fe thx
Great Powder Are Make A Facial Great Face Make-up Are Awesome

First video of her
Great
You're Doing A Impressive Job Beauty Kelly Gooch
& here is me.. who do not know what the rubbing alcohol is!! 🤦
So I read this title as "how to [subdue] a powder product [by force]" instead of "press a powder product again"
Oh That Great Story And Very Smart Kelly Gooch And Very Good Great For Listen Are Those Are Words Are You Said Are A True Story
Swatch b4 and after would have been nice.
Repressing doesn’t chance the color or formula at all so the swatch would have been the same
