Is Stalker Call of Pripyat the BEST game in the series?

- Today we are reviewing Stalker Call of Pripyat. This video goes over the 3rd entry in the series and shows how much gsc games world was learned and improved. Call of Pripyat is the peak entry in the franchise with its clean creative storyline and crisp clean gunplay. But CoP was still flawed....

Which Stalker game is your favorite? I think while Call of Pripyat is the most refined experience it doesn't build the zone like Shadow of Chernobyl. Help The Channel Grow: www.youtube.com/@lonerjb?sub_confirmation=1
definitely shadow of chernobyl
Shadow of chernobyl 100% followed by clear sky then call of pripiyat
My favorite is Shadow of Chernobyl. In my opinion it has the best atmosphere and story out of all the 3.
Shadow of Chernobyl has the best story.
Clear Sky has the best maps.
Call of Pripyat has the best gameplay.
Shadow of Chernobyl
Man, the Oasis quest is like peak stalker. The fact that you have to go and find this legendary place without any waypoints, or anything to guide you just plays into the series strength of venturing into the unknown.
It feels exactly like something from Elden ring, in which in order to find a hidden location you have to engage in the lore and think outside of the box.
Agreed man. They really knocked it out of the park with a lot of the quests. The ecologists quests were some of my favorite! I am hoping for a lot more of those missions that make you think and dive in to a little bit more of the game in Stalker 2. I cant explain enough how good the world building is in stalker is for the most part and CoP alone knocks it out of the park. Thanks for sharing that and checking out the video man!
The best thing for me is that i thought, that you will find it later in game, so i was not looking for it. Then, I just ventured in that complex, bcs i was wondering, what was there and when i found it, i was rly surprised. It was done rly well.
I highly doubt you did the elden ring quests without a guide bro. It's just lazy over complicated nonsense.
Really unique feeling when you finally realize you just walked in a loop for 4 times, never had a moment like that in another game
Honestly, Call of Pripyat will be forever placed in my heart. I love that you get detailed narration of what you influenced, achieved and changed in the Zone. Plus there isnt that clasical stalker inflation where a piece of bread costs the entire supply of gold in the world.
Kinda crazy how eggs today are turning into SoC bread. Wild times for sure. I agree about the trade though, it was nice to have some real economy. I wish it wasn't so easy to farm money with artifacts, but que ser sera. I agree with the ending. Adds some nice replayability as well!
That's just the good old greedy ass sidorovich
Clear Sky has the best fights, SoC has the best atmosphere, and CoP is the most polished, and has the emissions randomly, which is really scary. All 3 games have something really good to offer. Since I like the swamp, Clear Sky is my favorite.
Hell yea! I feel pretty much the same way, except I really like Rostok and the arena! and the atmosphere so SoC is my favorite, BUT Clear Sky have the best uniforms.
I think call of pripyat has the best and most refined gameplay, but it has the weakest main story of all the games, the side quests are what make it as good as it is
Interesting, I do like the story, until pripyat anyway, but you are right. The side quests are insanely good. 100% one of my favorite parts of the game!
@@lonerjb I thought the ENTIRE storyline was good, down to the last mission where you do your best to get everyone to reach the choppers alive while fighting a massive army of Monolith. Usually, you see missions like that in oversaturated and boring action games, but in STALKER Call of Pripyat the mission just hits different.
When do the side quest get good? I just been running around collecting things or talking to people. A lot of the areas are empty maybe a few zombies here and there but I don’t understand why CoP gets such praise ?
@@mewtkeys I mean...idk man, did you ask the main traders at camps for quests? There are scripted side quests that are given out by many people that have interesting stuff to them.
Imo Clear Sky is the best. The map of SoC + more, factions, weapon upgrade mechanics. Its basically SoC if it had even more features. Solid 8.5/10
Fair take. I just wish Rostok made the cut :/ Thanks for checking out the video!
What i don't like about Clear Sky is that to make the player use the mechanic of upgrading their weapons, GSC made the weapons perform really bad.
I like how CoP refine a lot of the elements in Clear Sky, like the weapon updrafts and fast travel. I consistently had over 100,000 rubles most of the game by repairing and selling weapons and gear, and the addition of the titan drug made it all the easier
Call of Pripyat was really good as far as the mechanics , graphics and gun play, it showed how the stalker world could be improved upon on those aspects, even if little by little. Shadow of Chernobyl just has the awesome atmosphere, storytelling, and downright nostalgia. There are so many hiddens gems and secrets that have yet to be found really, personally I have only completed the "right way" to do the game a handful of times. It is definitely one of the top game series imo
Could not agree more. SoC is incredible. The atmosphere alone keeps me hooked. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!
the graphics are objectively worse than clear sky and the gunplay has been dumbed down so much recoil barley exists for anything other than rifles making it just as simple and boring as any other shooter so id love to know how it " showed how the stalker world could be improved upon on those aspects" when they did all of it worse unless you want a game that is lifeless, looks worse and has simplified dull combat
this video is really good, you really deserve more subs! keep it up man
Thanks for checking out the video and thank you for the kind words!
I remember how in 2009 on my birthday parents gave me STALKER CoP. And I spent some perfect time with rookies, Freedom guys, and fighting with bandits.
Call of Pripyat has not so logical plot tbh, but quests, variability and detailed characters leave no chance to previous STALKER games ☢️
Thanks for sharing that memory! I wish I would have played these back in the day. Wasn't much of a PC gamer until the last few years. I have to agree with the quests, variability in endings and the characters. The side quests in particular were probably some of my favorite of any game, not just stalker.
To me, CoP was the worst of the series. Part of what made the original great was the environments and atmosphere, yes, but it was also the intrigue of finding out what was in the center of the zone and delving into increasingly bizarre locations on your quest to get there. Pripyat had none of that. The story was boring, the game felt directionless, and what narrative there was was extremely anti-climactic. More of a heavily modded Stalker sandbox than anything else. If that's your thing, cool, but I was pretty put off by the whole experience when it first came out and haven't touched the game since.
Where you spawn, turn right, go to the hills with the taller trees, under one of them is a sweet stash.
I wrote this down to check on my next playthrough. Thank you for the advice :)
Bit tricky to find so probably best to look up exact co-ordinates. In CoP there are quite a few stashes in tress or at their bases (the ones who go down to the ground).
The quests and more perfected map design do make CoP probably the best one, even if SoC has so much more content.
The quests.. stuck with me so well, I remember almost all of them
Agreed! quests were less of "do this" "do that" and more building up the zone and everyone in it. Really adds some guts to the missions. Especially the side missions. Thanks for checking it out!
Keep up the videos man, don't stop. You should start doing playthroughs I would definitely watch.
Thanks man! I am working on a small Stalker Anomaly series right now to see how it goes. First video is out tomorrow!
@@lonerjb Awesome sounds good!
Well said. Everything you say about this game is accurate. CoP was always my best stalker games because of all those mechanics and storyline, clearly they perfected their developing after the first two games. Not that the previous are not good, Shadow of Chernobyl is still one of my favorite games of all time and Clear Sky is a Stalker title so it deserves attention and love. Overall, great video stalker, keep up the good work, always looking forward for a new stalker video.
Thanks for the kind words and checking out the video! SoC is incredible. The creativity they had with the atmosphere and the world building from it is incredible. The stalker trilogy has quickly become one of my favorite series of games! I am glad I played them before getting into the mod scene. Plenty more mods/stalker like games to dig into until stalker 2 later this year!
@@lonerjb you are right. The one word that could describe the whole trilogy is atmosphere. And the great work they 've done with the world building give us subjects to talk about the game even after all these years...
They just dropped stalker trilogy on Xbox and ur vids are great to watch trying to learn more about the game. I’ve always knew about the game and loved it but never looked too deep as I never thought it would come to Xbox but now that it did which order should I play the games in as ur a vet on stalker series I see.
Same here
clear sky for me, no matter what others say
one of my favorite games for sure. with modified game data files it even more fun. the other day i found out if you have superjump mod, and jump on the roof on the building next to yanov station, the game will skip the underground level and spawn you directly to pripyat with zulu and the guide.
LOL That is crazy. Reminds me of super bouncing in Halo 2. Thanks for checking out the video!
Just started a new playthrough of Clear Sky with nothing but the Clear Sky Complete mod... it's awesome!
Short answer: No
Long answer: Shadow of Chernobyl
*Is a fact CoP has a nice plot and is technically superior, but the way SoC blew my mind back in the days is unpaired in all other aspects.
Nice content, leave my sub here. 😄
Thanks for checking it out and subscribing! :) Shadow of Chernobyl is my favorite as well. CoP is cleaned and refined like you said, but man the SoC story and the atmosphere. It is just so damn good. I am excited to play Anomaly and see how it goes.
short general answer: up to preference
my answer: SoC is best due to atmosphere.
Misery is the granddaddy of the anomaly series mods. It did set the standard for more in-depth crafting, economy and armor maintenance system.
Unfortunately I spent a while trying to play misery mod, but it is so poorly optimized it was nearly impossible to get a consistent 15fps and record.
For me, the atmosphere just wasn’t as good as SoC. One of the main upsets for me was that the map design is far more ‘gamified’, less naturalistic: you have 3 squares with points of interest arranged in, more or less, a grid on each. It is undoubtedly better than SoC as a game, but not as an experience. I still loved every second I spent with it.
Agreed, I have moments from all 3 and features that I really enjoy, but MAN SoC's atmosphere makes the whole series top tier for me. Thanks for the comment and checking it out!
i agree soc was the best for atmosphere the zone felt alive and there were way more faction npcs mixed in with the mutants youd see them doing patrols and stuff it made it feel as if the zone will go on and im not a main character just another stalker, i hope stalker 2 is more like soc
CoP would’ve had such a cool story had the devs actually made the Horror of Pripyat a real overarching antagonist. They put some good work into the mystery of what is killing the squads in the third act but they never reveal it, which is a bizarrely underwhelming decision.
For those unaware, the thing haunting the military in Pripyat is not actually a controller but rather, as revealed from uncovered dev notes, an enormous invisible energy entity made of negative thoughts and memories surrounding the city of Pripyat. The Horror was going to be part of some quests in the 2011 STALKER 2 but due to the game being cancelled it just never got revealed and most players don’t realize it exists. It’s a horrible shame because the HoP would’ve been a really cool villain to reveal and could’ve made the plot much more interesting. If it was revealed that _that_ was what hit some of the helicopters and you actually had to escape it in the ending (it does appear for a moment near the end with the weird visual effect but it’s barely noticeable) it could’ve elevated the story so much.
STALKER is a series with a ton of cool lore ideas and horrible stage-fright about implementing them
Your last sentence is a good way to put it. The horror of Pripyat sounds fucking sick. The more Stalker leans into the cosmic horror or just how horrifying the zone can be the better it would get.
The underground road to Pripyat was phenomenal lol and is also my favorite set piece in the trilogy second being lab X-18 in SoC. My favorite area in the game is definitely Zaton.
Hell yea! I hope Stalker 2 has set pieces just as good if not better!
Glad to see someone diving into good old stalker thanks algorythm I hope you will make more good videos like this one
Thank you for the kind words! I am working on more videos, I hope they will be better than these!
Anyone noticed Zulu's full seva model is skinnier than the base one? guess he went through some serious workout plan before the mission.
The vodka only diet hits hard i guess. Good eyes though, I didn't notice until you said it and i went back and looked. Also thanks for watching the vid and leaving a comment!
Definitely entertained enough to hit that like button. Good job Bro
Thank you!
7:20 zulu always dies fr
dude you covered the topic so well i didn't even realize your subscriber is still 85
Keep up the good work👍
Preciate it. Hoping to keep getting better and growing. Thank you for the kind words and checking out the video!
if you havent played anomoly i promise your gonna love it its unbelievable good.
I just got it installed tonight. I AM PUMPED to really dig into it.
Call Of Pripyat is so good. The combat, the weaponry, the rpg elements, the atmosphere, you name it. The game was well developed and it was a major step from Shadow Of Chernobyl and Clear Sky.
Very neat response. I wish it had a little more atmosphere like SoC and Clear Sky, but polish wise CoP wins by a landslide. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a response!
I only started playing CoP very recently and I'm still confused on what should I do, where I should go and where I can get the good shit.
I only started playing the 3 STALKER games about 2 weeks ago and I had less issues with finding loot and guns and finding my way around in SoC and CS than CoP
I spent much more time in call of pripyat than any other stalker. I may have more than a 1000 hours of call of pripyat since I was a kid
keep it up
Great video as always
Thanks man! Your support is always much appreciated!
Personally I NEED to commend the 1st game because it had set the tone and everything the franchise's known for today...so IT BETTER BE CALLED THE BEST GAME FOR BEING THE ONE WHO HAD BIRTH THE FRANCHISE...other two are also great, for expanding upon everything in the Zone, but the 1st game DESERVES the most praise than any of others...
Love the content keep it up
Thank you!
for me Call of Pripyat because it feels so open and the gun play plus the yanter with the and the x labs in CoP made it so much worth Playing and buying ~
LOVED the side missions in CoP and the tunnel to Pripyat. Thanks for checking out the vid and leaving a comment!
great vid!
Thank you!
Story wise, Shadow of Chernobyl is my favorite.
However, gameplay wise, Call of Pripyat wins with no doubt.
Almost every problem Clear Sky had was fixed, including those annoying bugs that the franchise is kind of known to have.
I loved the fact that, for once, you could EXPLORE the areas better without having to deal with colossal anomaly fields that force you to take a linear path. Plus, stashes didn't need random coordinates to be dropped, and the only way to find them was to explore.
It basically turns Stalker in a rather quicker arcade experience, filled with details, side quests and fun ways of concluding runs.
Yeah it's no doubt my favorite.
Yea CoP really fixed all my complaints for the first 2 games. I just wish Pripyat would have been a little less barren. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving such a good comment!
Which game is the best, I don't understand the question? SoC is the only game in the series, CS and CoP are both expansions of the main game.
Came to playstation recently and got pripyat
My fav stalker game
i hope that (by some miracle) Stalker 2 will be good but considering the state that modern video games have been in for over a decade now I don't have much hope
Yea, I think that is why I started looking into older games like the stalker trilogy. I hope Stalker 2 is good as well! I am just going to be cautiously optimistic. If nothing else Stalker 2 - Anomaly mod will (hopefully) be SICK. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!
Call of Pripyat better than others, beacuse i love artifact system, getting special weapons and armors, achievements, missions side missions was better than main missions, atmosphere and music. It is perfect. Simply everything i love in this game.
Hell yea! I love the side missions. They did such a GREAT JOB with them in this game. Felt like I was playing ES: Oblivion they were so good. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!
@@lonerjb i have ES Oblivion i didnt played yet,i will play someday.
too low sound video but i like it. CoP is my favorite S.T.A.l.K.E.R. game. best atmospheric game. amazing plot and pretty much everything in this game
Thanks for the feedback on the sound! I think the atmosphere in SoC is still my favorite, but the side missions in Cop are incredible. Thanks for the comment and checking out the video!
SOC is still good bro
Yea... It is my favorite.
My least favorite thing about Call of Pripyat is that it eventually ends. Otherwise I'd say Clear Sky is also on par with CoP. Because it's Shadow of Chernobyl map + a few other new locations, BUT with CoP weapon customization and fraction system.
@@DonnyKirkMusic I never found Clear Sky being poorly balanced. Like yeah there's some jank present, maybe the hitboxes/hit detection is off compared to Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat, but I just took it as "oh, this game is actually harder". It wasn't anything awfully bad I reckon. It's different from the other games in the series, but I just love it like all the rest.
@@TonyMcCrea I had a hard time with Clear Sky. I will agree though that each game brought something different, and made great strides to have 3 unique, but awesome games in the same "zone". Take out the nades and add Rostok to Clear Sky and I enjoy it a lot more. Add SoC and Clear Sky zones to CoP and I love it more, but they all have awesome features they focused on. Thanks for checking out the video! and chatting in the comments! :)
Rapaz, já finalizei o COP três vezes, uma no jogo vanilla, e duas com o mod gunslinger, e assim que surgir mais uma atualização desse mod - se é que vai surgir - irei termina-lo mais uma vez...
Which one is the best for a new player
Shadow of Chernobyl first.
Do efp still count?
You should try misery next
I just downloaded this last night! Im excited to give it a go!
Not the best story, but in all the other aspects, it indeed is the best game in the series.
Fair. The mission design, specifically the side missions are what made me fall in love. Thank you for checking out the video!
The story is meh imo, but by gameplay it is without a doubt the best of the three games. They really did learn on their previous mistakes. Pretty much everything i didn't like in the other stalker games is fixed, and they added a lot of new stuff, really adding to the experience. I hope that it will translate to stalker 2 being even better.
Clear Sky is the best for me! despite all of the bugs.
CoP is a second place though
Fair take. Clear Sky does have the uniforms. Thanks for checking out the video!
Soc- best game
Cs- rage game
Cop- best mechanics and improvement and my first game
So Cop,soc,cs
Good way for organizing the games. Thanks for checking out the video!
Pripyat is the most balanced, least linear, most open world, well fleshed out and interesting Stalker game. The crazy thing about the stalker series is that it was ahead of its time in many ways while at the same time being an unplayable buggy crashfest. I've never completed a Stalker game without having a game breaking bug force me to reload a save several hours old or completely reinstall and start over. When you take this into consideration, that the foundation of these games is built on such weak buggy code. It really crystallizes just how great the other things were for this game to be so loved. Can't think of a better modding community in any game that is as good as the Stalker community. I keep telling all the fans to be realistic about Stalker 2. GSC has never released a game that was not broken on release. Do not get your hopes up for Stalker 2. The modding community will eventually make it good but there is a very low percentage it will be good on release. Good vid btw.
Now that I have had the chance to spend a few hours in Anomaly, I see what you mean. The jank in CS had me climbing up walls mad at points lol. I hope GSC gives stalker 2 a good base for modding so it can be a feature complete game. With the recent state of most game releases my hopes for any new games diminishes. Thanks for such an in depth comment! Sorry it took so long to reply, and thank you for checking out the video!
The main thing that’s driving hype for Stalker 2 is the early build leaks. It’s going to be fucking amazing at launch just from looking at it.
Something Im glad about is that GSC seems to be aware of this LARPer and Western brainrot. From what
Ive seen from the leaks, GSCs main inspiration for its story with STALKER 2 comes from Ukrainian and
Russian soup mods such as GODHEAD, Goldsphere, Op2 and etc.
That side of the community knows the true essence of stalker, they’ve been with the games since the early builds of 2004 right up until 2023.
If you go through the development history of Stalker: Oblivion Lost as it was originally going to be called back then, then you’ll find that a majority of the bugs present throughout the trilogy was because of decisions by THQ executives and biased American beta testers who were uninterested for the vision of GSC, that forced them to rework stalker from the ground up into a more linear shooter that X-RAY engine and the A-LIFE System was never designed for.
Most of the game breaking bugs that shadow of Chernobyl had was never there in the original oblivion lost builds.
By looking at the leaks for stalker 2: a VAST amount of legwork for the games development is already done, there is a clear and concise roadmap on the games systems, lore and story That I don’t really have any worries for it.
Hell, the trailers that they’ve shown is deliberately vague so as to not spoil the game as locations, mechanics and lore is all interconnected with each other that showing one part of it will spoil the whole thing.
So I sincerely hope the poorly implemented muzzle sway as you're moving is fixed in call of pripyat because it's almost unplayable in clear sky
call of pipyrat is good an a solid game but its still got that clear sky thing going on and the big anomolies and an area been an anomily and it felt weird to be fair i liked the scan idea to find ya artifcats thats better then ya just find them like in shadow and the best combat is still clear sky by a long shot but a lot of mechanics felt over worked in clear sky and im not sure what it was they were tryign to achieve and in all honesty it felt a bit of as mess clear sky when you got to later in the game but other than that its a good game lack of loot got a bit like this like that on call of pipyrat and it was light on exploration and rewarding you for that exploration it needed random loot like ya go through a complex and find say a decent gun or ammo or health anything but made that effort worthwhile rather then just empty buildings
The only thing i dont like about CoP is being military, i heavily dislike the militaries philosophy/role they play as these bumbling outsiders who cant traverse the zone for the life of them
But even then i can just headcanon my characters philosophy/thoughts so its chill, but being someone whose apart of the zone just hits different (or at least lemme be a merc, they're cool at least)
That is a point I never really thought about. Military pissed me off in SoC. I do like playing a different roll in every game, but I could see that being an issue. I like the term headcanon. I make up lore and backstory for every random stalker I see in the zone lol so glad im not super crazy. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!
@@lonerjb yea of course, i definitely think stalkers perfect for headcanon cuz every stalker has a past, its rare we ever run into somene whose "new" to the zone, and its a past thats never expanded upon or explained in anyway, that goes for many things in the zone, so coming up with the whats and whys is all apart of the fun
I didn't like COP that much. I thought it didn't look very good, which was mostly caused by the level design. The larger open levels looked a bit empty and bleak to me. The story was a bit lame also. And the new music didn't do it for me. For me SHOC is by far the best game. The story of the first game is a masterpiece. But you need a couple mods on top to make it a bit more playable. If you play it with the complete mod it's still pretty decent. But Anomaly and Gamma I think bring the best Stalker experience to date.
I agree with pretty much all of this. I only played the base games vanilla, but just getting into Anomaly and it is fantastic! brings back all the atmosphere SoC has and adds a lot more. Thanks for checking out the video!
amen dude
I bought the collection on my series x and had to refund it because the first hame the hit detection just didn't work I could be 2 feet from an enemy with a shot gun and unload in his head and nothing by the time I reload he shoots me 3 times with normal hand gun and I'm dead mind u I have full health that's some bs
You're using buckshot on guys with armour.
They're not gonna take damage really unless it's a slug.
Shotguns firing buckshot is best for lower mutants
There was a time where STALKER Call of Pripyat was my favourite game of all time. Now though, I still love it but Shadow of Chernobyl is a lot better, imo.
Same SoC for me is PEAK Stalker, bugs and all. CoP is very fun though. Mission design was amazing.
@lonerjb SoC is probably my personal favourite game. The Zone feels unlike any other game world I've been in and I love it
Yep, it is 😊
why does everyone use that BBQ grill commercial ass song in the intro
Copyright free lol
@@lonerjb i know lmao but it always sounds like a song you see on one of those damn BBQ/restaurant commercials lmao. fucking slow mo zoomed in fire grill with the claps
@@smh02 lmaooo well now every time I hear it I am gonna picture that. That is such a good visual description lol
@@lonerjb lmao ive heard that on so many videos now that its burned into my brain. wish i could remember the exact commercials that used it. swear they used to do truck commercials sometimes too
My heart says SoC is the best, but my brain says CoP is the best.
This sums up my feelings very well. Thanks for checking out the video!
SoC is OG !
100%
Of Course The First Game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl, Followed By S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat Then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. I Haven't Played Heart Of Chernobyl.
for me it is the worst of the saga. even worse than cs because it adds absolutely nothing to the saga.
That is fair, I like that it is the least buggy experience and the side missions, but I think SoC is still top tier for me. Thanks for checking out the video!
The asnwer is obvious: no, it's not
I'd say it depends how you look at it. CS definitely weakest. Only good modded, but Cop and Soc both good modded and vanilla. Both got fair number of mods. 😂
Yea anything is good with the right mods. I think they all have their pros and cons. CoP is the neatest and least buggy entry in my experience.
@@lonerjb Agreed plus cop I think has the better "what if canon like fanmade story" mods. Not to many games get that from either by its fans either.
Thanks for spoilers ffs
I hope your joking.
Felt hollow for me and the pda was boring worse one for me
We are waiting for ukranian stalker2
Yes, I hope to see some gameplay or something at the xbox show, or summer games show. Thanks for checking out the video!
Shadow of chernobyl is the best, clear sky is the worst but no so far from Cop. almost no innovation in gameplay, small map, easy gameplay, and almost none contribution to the story
That is fair, artifact hunting became REALLY REALLY easy and they took away even more zones than CS,. BUT there were a lot less bugs. Thanks for checking out the video!
i just hate the gunplay and engine so much and the fact they forced it to be open world meaning its dull and lifeless most of the time, i dont really care about the story i like exploring, gunplay, messing with the life system and the atmosphere but CoP fails in all of that
I still bet that Clear Sky was the best from the series, until now.
Plot Twist
Great video man
Thank you!
