Oh my goodness! None of my Grandparents ever made this. I need to make this someday and I am so looking forward to it! :-) I love your recipes, videos and the background music!!
Hi! I'm a student studying in beautiful Budapest, and I love your recipes! I was about to ask you about the music until I read the description :) Such a calming and loving video! Köszönöm szépen!
Hi Sevina! I'm more than happy that you like my recipes, and our Capital :) I hope you've already tried some traditional Hungarian dishes here. :) Yes, I'm lucky that my husband makes music for my videos - I don't have to search for free songs on UA-cam :)
Beautiful soup!! Thanks for sharing the recipe with us ❤ In Brazil we eat lentils on New Years Eve for prosperity too; I wonder if it's just a coincidence, or if there's a common root for that tradition!
Thank you !!! Just found your channel and love it as I am Magyar and a bit Slovak and love your dog at the end - too cute !!! Now inspired to try out this soup I have not had in a very long time !!!
Thank you for your kind comment! I'm glad you like my channel (and my dog, Lassi too :) Slovakian and Hungarian cuisine has so many similar recipes - I hope you'll like my version of this soup
Just watched your video and drooled most of the way. HA HA Great presentation and very "Paprikash" . It would taste terrific with any sort of beans I think. Thanks for the video! !st Generation Magyar in US.
Many thanks John for your kind comment! I'm glad you liked this video. Yes, there are similar recipes with beans (I have one on my channel, called "Jokai bean soup") Happy New Year!
Only if you start with fring the smoked ham and sausages then it will turn out more perfectly. I do like that, then take out and put them back at the last 20 mins. Usually all traditional food starts with fry the bacon or ham or sausage. Just as a good advise. Otherwise ferfect :)
another of your dishes im going to try looks Delicious!!!!. is there such a thing as Hungarian pea soup??? just curious. if so what's it called?? thanks in advance.
I'm happy you liked this recipe. I see, Andreas has already answered your question about the pea soup. There are some very similar Hungarian vegetable soups, which all contains carrots, parsley roots, onions, some flour and paprika, just the main ingredient changes: pea, cauliflower or kohlrabi - and of course those have different flavors.
Hi! I love your recipes (just discovered you channel) but aren't you concerned with the amount of spices the dog gets?... That's my big concern, for example, when I cook broth or stew and I cook with onions and/ or spices, can I give the bones/ bits of meat to the dog? I've read you shouldn't :(
Many thanks Mirka for your comment! I suppose it depends on the dog (and the owner) about spicy food. Lassi is on BARF (raw diet), but I don't think it hurts her if sometimes she gets some bites from our food (spicy or not). I've never noticed that it hurts her stomach, she doesn't get any discomfort. Of course, the experts say otherwise... (Btw: I never give her cooked bones, just raw)
First of all I soak them because I've learnt it from my mother this way :) The other reason is that I've tried 2-3 times to cook lentils without soaking and the those were not soft enough for me (even cooking them for 2 hours). Maybe I've used too old lentils, or just the Hungarian types are too hard... I don't know.
Kitchen Paprikash if that's how mom did it then that is the correct way no doubt. I still do things as mom did them as well. I make lentil soup about once a week but I've never made the Hungarian lentil soup. I will be making your recipe this Friday and I will soak the lentils over night. Thank you for the many recipes and techniques that you've shared.
I really hope you'll like it! Please let me know about! (Maybe even the half is too much for one, but you can store the leftover in the fridge for several days ... Or invite some friends :)
Hi! I've never tried to freeze this soup but lots of people in Hungary do. It best to freeze without the sour cream-flour mixture, but will be OK with it too. I think the vegetables (carrots, parsley roots) going to be little bit soggy after reheating. I hope it helps!
Many thanks for your comment, I'm happy that you like my recipe. Yeah, I understand your feeling about the music. I always put Hungarian folk songs under my videos (which are played and re-composed by my husband), and most of these songs are not really on the happy side, but these are connect with our history, so I love them.
My goodness -- so much salt. In the prepared meats and 3 additions to the soup. Swollen ankles and congestive heart anyone? Oh yeh, give some to the dog too so he can die from it.
IGEN ! ! ! Nagyon jó ez a változat......
Köszönöm szépen, nagyon örülök, hogy tetszett! Boldog Új Évet kívánok!

Many thanks, Cassie! I hope you will like this soup - if you made this one day. Please, let me know!
I loved the music! (And, the recipe looks delicious, too!) 😊😋
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I'm happy to hear that you like the music (which is based on a Hungarian folk-song) and the recipe too!
@kellyorang6845 the music is a beautiful folk song "elmegyek, elmegyek hosszú útra megyek "
Gotta try making that looks amazing !🍜

Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes. Warms my heart. doista ukusno.
Many thanks for your kind words! I'm happy you like my recipes :D
This is a wonderful recipe. Thank you for sharing. Just like my mother’s. I added smoked turkey as I had a leg on hand instead of ham and sausage.
Many thanks, Rebecca for your kind comment. I'm glad you liked it!

John Luliak I was drooling too!! 🤤
@@katherinehall1967 You can't beat Lassi (my dog) in drooling :) :) :)
At least we know, the dog likes it!
😂

Yes , it is the Zöldborsóleves.
thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm wondering why you would soak the lentils overnight? Lentils will fully cook from the dry state in 45 minutes.
First of all I soak them because I've learnt it from my mother this way :) The other reason is that I've tried 2-3 times to cook lentils without soaking and the those were not soft enough for me (even cooking them for 2 hours). I grew up in Budapest and we always soaked lentils overnite! Or any dry beans for that matter! Makes a HUGE difference!
That is the proper way how to do it. The lentils are dried, it needs water to get the water back.
Looks yummy, what mustard do you use ?
Any kind would work well (American, Dijon - but not Honey). In Hungary we usually use a "generic", standard mustard.
Kitchen Paprikash Thankyou. And probably not hot English 🤣 . Lovely recipe, I will be making this .
@@ann.obrien5139 I hope, you will like it! :D
I'll have to make this next weekend, maybe cut the recipe in half as it's just me...
I really hope you'll like it! Please let me know about! (Maybe even the half is too much for one, but you can store the leftover in the fridge for several days ... Or invite some friends :)
Minek citrom? Itt a szilveszter fogom főzni, de citrom ha kel csak a tányérba. Köszi
Én így szeretem, de szerintem mindenhogy finom, citrommal, citrom nélkül :D Boldog Új Évet!
Hello! thanks for the recipe, a question, have you ever frozen this soup to reheat later

Jennypher Espinosa I always freeze some lentil soup for later! Yes, you can!
Csodás, de nekem hiányzik a köménymag.
Köszönöm! Én lencsébe nem rakok, de biztos úgy is nagyon finom. :D
@@kitchenpaprikash3888 én mindenbe, ami felfújós étel. A kömény nagyon jót tesz ez ellen.
This soup looks amazing, but the music depresses me a bit - makes me want to trip out instead of cook!

This is the funniest comment I've ever read. Thank you! I've laughed a lot.
