- I picked this Shure microphone up around 15 years ago, thinking, and hoping, that it was the real deal. It most certainly was not. I used it for a while, then tossed it aside when I realised it was fake.
I recently took it out to record some drums and was SO surprised by the sound I got out of it! In some ways it sounds better to my ear than the result Shure Beta 57a.
In this video I test it out recording snare and floor tom to see how it fares against the real deal.

Fake one sounds more alive to me! I’ve had these fake Shure mics before. They’re pretty well made.
Big style! I’d be interested to try them on some fuzz guitar.

Looks like the one you say is the real one ( the beat up one) is fake. There should only be 2 holes on bottom side not 3. I believe the ebay ones are legit.
It’s the other way round, I said the beaten up one is fake 🙂
The Chinese mic sound like a cheap mic to me. Hyped presence lift is a signature of cheap mics. The Beta 57 has a much more realistic sound. All the body goes out of the sound when you go the fake. I don’t know how you can’t hear that, it’s extremely obvious. If you like that one, I’d suggest an Audio Technica Pro 63. It has the hyped highs without sacrificing the mids. I would consider the fake kind of s character mic. Good for a hyped pre-EQed sound. Definitely not s good mic
