This was my first ever flight on the 747-8 and my first flight on Korean Air so it’s fair to say I was really looking forward to it.
I flew business class on the upper deck of the Korean Air 747 - there is something magic about flying on the upper deck of the Queen of the Skies - much more so than the upper deck of the A380. Sadly the 747 is slowly disappearing from our skies so I was very happy to be able to experience it.
This Korean Air Flight review covers my flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Seoul, South Korea and features: check-in and the business class lounge, boarding, take-off and the onboard service from Korean Air including the business class seat, cabin, inflight amenities, entertainment system and meals.

I disagree with the comment below about the length of Dennis’ videos. If you watch other travel vloggers, most of their videos are around 15mins long and they become boring to watch (showing the entire take off at normal speed, hovering over the menu for ages, over self-indulgent etc). I think Dennis manages to make his videos detailed enough in the aspects people want to know about (the lounge, the seat, the service and the flight overall) whilst also being entertaining and concise. Happy travels 😀
The bedding or the lack of suprised me! Considering the competition between Europe - Asia you would think duvee and a proper pillow would be obvious.
Korean airlines is one airline that people know little about unless traveling to Korea.The business class is great but KE first class is amazing.I love Korean food especially the national dish Kim chee.Dennis it's a shame you did'nt try the Korean option of Bi Bum Bup it's delicous.Great video once again.

Its a shame that we are now seeing a321neos doing trans atlantic flights. It used to be 747s almost exclusively.
No its the most majestic bird still in the sky. I remember the first time I flew the 747 it felt like an event.

Oh it is miles better. If you get one of the window seats and put up the privacy screen, you really are in your own world.

A very pleasing cabin ambience I do like the muted colour scheme, the layout looks really good some other airlines { no names } could have a look at this layout.

I have been on Korean Air's business class a few times. It was average and nothing special, but on the positive side, their reward points last 10 years which is better than any airlines I have ever came across.

Dennis. How does this compare to the BA club world seats which you panned? The set up of window seat and aisle seat seem similar to that but you liked this? I've never traveled on either so I don't know myself but when looking at these that was the first thing I thought
I travel in this class with Korean Air everytime I can and it is a lovely flight and great service. Not really for Westerners but great for Asian customers.

Nice flight review. I m planning to fly with the 747-8 this summer from Paris to Seoul..going to the Philippines for my vacations. In 2016, I already experienced Korean Air for the same trip but it was the A380 from Paris. Can't wait for this year !
i am half korean and have been on Korean Air many times, while going on business class on any airline is always nicer then economy .Korean Air in general is very old , and need to be updated. The reality is even airlines like British Airways ect have gone down and airlines Emirates , Qatar are the airlines that other airlines have to measure them selves against , They are the airlines others have to live up to. Whether you like it of not if one of those airlines go where i need and its a long haul flight stop over or not and i have a choice the sad fact is people will choose one of the western asian airlines over B A or K A . Its not even comparable .
True. Korean Air used to be so great, it's been on the decline the past 10 years. However, their ticket prices are still a premium.

What do you have to do to get a upper deck seat on a 747
Great vid! This biz seats are installed on Korean air 787-9 (2-2-2) as well. But I assume width of 747-8 fuselage is wider than that of 787-9. so does that mean biz seats in 747-8 is more spacious? JAL has the same seats on their 777-300ER and the configuration is 2-3-2.
Great video as always. How did they serve the meal? Did they do it through privacy divider over the aisle seat passenger awkwardly like on British airways? Or did they do it through the little entry into your seat?
Dennis, as always, your trip reports are second to none.
The best compliment I can give you is that I wish they were longer. Always a pleasure watching your travel experiences.
If I may offer a suggestion- try looking into pilgrim tourist groups to Israel. Should be an interesting market to explore.

Sometimes I like not having WiFi on a plane because it means that I get some time away from my work and enjoy the flight without worrying about my work
Though the configuration of the 747-8 Business class for KAL looks amazing, Unfortunately for me its not that comfortable.. I prefer Korean Air's A380 or 777 non suite set up, though its the old and common style used on most airlines I find it more comfortable and easier to sleep in.

I flew Asiana to Korea before, but now I’m willing to try Korean Airlines, nice review Dennis.! KAL offers awesome business class fares from the US to SE Asia via Seoul.
Just make sure you are flying 748 or 789. A388 and 77W business seats do not have direct aisle access in every seat. I prefer OZ's business seats on A388 or A350 over KE's. I'm not sure if KE flies 789 to the US.

That layout is like an old version of JL's new business class design. Dennis, you really need to try JL new J. It's fantastic.
There *is* something nice about flying on the 747, but holycrap you realize how noisy they are after flying on an A350 or A380! Boeing's really are just a lot noisier to fly on.
Engines and their manufacturers play a huge role in that*

Its always good to have delays when youre in FC cuz you can enjoy more the seat and watch movies and its just awesome or maybe thats just me, you can put me in a economy class and fly for 20h and i would love it, i just love planes

Upper deck business class on the 747 is the BEST way to fly long haul. No doubt about it. Too bad the Queen of the Skies is going away for most airlines. (Unless you can fly First Class, of course).

The meal options were a bit of a disappointment. As someone who is moving away from red meat and pork due to humanitarian and health reasons, I would have liked to have seen chicken / better fish options. Also, what's the deal with both the dinner and breakfast main meals being in one of the rectangular trays? I mean I know they are ceramic, but it's business class, not economy - serve that stuff on a plate! When I was in Seoul, I remember travelling on the subway and seeing every single person in the carriage on their phones. For a country that cannot do without internet access, I find it laughable that their national airline doesn't offer WiFi! I'll give them props for the staggered seating layout however. A business class that affords every single person direct aisle access is the way it should be done. Overall Korean Air seem disappointing. I thought they would try harder. Thanks for the video Dennis :)

Oddly I almost feel like Korean air didn’t do a great job given the breakfast wasn’t great and the seats were hard. Plus for business class that had to be. A pretty ridiculous pillow. Still I’ve heard nothing but great things bout them especially their business configuration. Hope you tried the bibimbap on the next flight.

The KAL 747-8i is my favorite plane.
Not since the L-188 Electra or the Super Connie have I enjoyed a plane.
They are a good airline after the sad days of 2000 with poor technical and flight crews who were substandard hence the Delta captains who flew with them for insurance purposes. Many expats incl Australians work for them now and I flew them weekly for 2 years and in all prem classes on all their new and old aircraft but always good service but do tend to put westerners away from locals esp if the only western prem pax. Never full in F class and do not upgrade.Thanks for the 748 review

Even it’s a 748, I’m still not impressed though. The seat is way too narrow and the inflight food is not business class standard.
Seems Korean airliners always choose worst interior color combo. Those seats look like cheap vinyl ‘leather’ from 80s. Their previous 747 first class color combo looks like a prison.
Do asiana or Garuda Indonesia first class or new emirates or Singapore first class

I hate the Jade color seats, visually off putting. Also, need to order the bimbimbap next time, one of the best food items in the sky.

Back in the 80's Korean Air told passengers not to take pictures of the runway when landing. There were dugouts with weapons back then on the side of the runways.
