- I cannot say this is a video I wanted to make but in life we all have decisions we need to make.

In this video I decided to share an unexpected obstacle I've encountered with my beloved GC8 and it has forced me into a position where I need to decide what route to choose.
-
This is one of those moments in life where they say "Don't wish for less problems, wish for more wisdom" and so I know that no matter what, you can only grow from experiences like this.

These cars are becoming collectors items and are going to appreciate in value, You could sell it for a decent amount as it is or start the process of restoring it and it could be worth quite a bit in the future. The rust there is repairable but it is a lot of work and expensive if you can't do it yourself.
I won’t be selling the GC (as long as it’s up to me).
I need to find a restoration guy I trust can do the work, see how much he would charge for the job. I’ll then save up with that goal in mind and eventually get it done 😊
Honestly my 1993 WRX is riddles with rust also. Theres no way to avoid it in the old japanese cars no matter how much you take care of them. Personally I would keep driving it and enjoy it while you can 🤷♂️ do small repairs as you go along instead of all in one go.
I feel that doing sections one by one would make it a never ending project. I think that if I do it all in one go (and properly look after the car) it will last longer 🤷♂️

I’m still going to enjoy the GC8. Just going a different route with it is all. I could never sell it lol
Take however long it takes. I’ve spent 2 years pulling my gc8 apart and I’m only just about to straighten the frame as it had some minor damage that I found. Finally getting around to doing bodywork.
Just make sure you do it once and do it right. Poor man always pays twice. It’s gonna take a lot of time. So don’t rush things. A few extra days for a better end product will always be worth it. Keen to see the progress

When you have the money.. Swap your clutch, and look for a shell car. Swap everything over.
I think I would be more cost efficient to properly restore this shell rather than buy a used one in who knows what condition.

@@TheGCJourney maybe just a though- replace the glass. Drive it like this - save up - fix in a few months? Find a car in the junkyard cut a whole section out of the frame

That is almost exactly what I had in mind.
Rear windshield was resealed, currently planning to save up and hopefully take the GC for body and paint work in the summer
A real big plus , you have dry storage . You can take your time with the GC doing all the stripping yourself , that job only costs time not money .
Then when you do have enough money to restore the shell it'll already be stripped... which would save you the cost of paying someone else to strip it.
Any parts you decide you won't be using you can sell to help fund the new build you want to do .
After the shell is restored you will build the next evolution of your GC .

you can get a different shell from a stock n/a GC and transfer the parts when you have the money, you are a huge inspiration for me, dont give up!

In the same boat. Not famous actor, jobless but with a turbo fc rx7. Originally wanted to make it a track car but turned into an attempt at reliable daily. Now I just want to sell or trade it haha

keep this car as a daily, enjoy a new journey where you can apply everything you have learnt so far. everything you have done granted you with an experience. Its your decision at the end of the day but I would choose on stopping the build here so you can focus on a more "track car" build. and maybe you will find a good project car that is "rust free" by a miracle haha
That’s pretty much the plan.
I will get a job and save up to get the GC’s shell restored.
In the meantime I’ll build the GD and go nuts with it on the track 😊

I noticed your hood and grill/headlight line is not straight, mine is the same. Have you found out what is cashing the misalignment? Great vid by the way!
Could be a number of reasons.
In my case it’s:
1) because of the CF hood. The OEM hood fit much better.
2) the car must have been in a small accident in the past since the LH headlight seems to be pushed in (and the front panel is damaged).
3) The hood fitment can be adjusted but I wasn’t able to get it straight. A body shop guy could probably do it in 2 minutes.
Is your hood OEM?
@@TheGCJourney I have both JDM alumnium and CF hoods, both fit the same with weird misallignment. So I am definitely leaning towards point 2) incident of what you mentioned. Do you think the front can be hammered back into place?

Definitely! A good body shop guy can straighten anything back into place!
Good luck with whatever you choose! I'm now hoping there isn't any hidden rust on the clean GC8 I just bought. Lol. Looked over the whole car and it looks great but haven't done anything like replacing glass like you have.

If you find a clean chassis that's not too expensive you could transplant your internals to that, but I know a clean GC 2door shell at a respectable price is a tall order. Best of luck to you! the 04-05 GD iimprezas are sweet, my favorite GD facelift.
Considering the current market it would be a better financial move to restore the current chassis rather than try source a new one.
I will get her sorted, it will just take some time.

Reshell or restore the car...
Buy a beater... 2000s Diesel Golf, Leon,... are very cheap cars to maintain and they sell for 2000€
I will definitely have to strip the car and restore it. I love this thing too much.
Probably make it more street friendly with sound deadening, nice clutch etc.
The WRX will be the track toy 😎
