Shannon’s skill as an interviewer and athlete really came through in this episode cuz his questions were so interesting from a non-skateboarder perspective
So many other skaters that deserve this opportunity but I know skateboarding in a whole is just happy to see him on here. No hate in skating but I would love to see someone like Kelly Hart get his flowers
@@josephspagnola9884nyjah deserves it too bros been going crazy since he was a little kid with dreads wym at that time he was only huge to the skate community now it seems like everyone knows nyjah or knows of him
@YPCSmook There is a lot of skaters who's been doing it since a little kid. I understand he's well known but that doesn't mean he deserves the spotlight for the right reasons. I'm just saying there is atleast 10 other skaters I can think of who deserve there flowers over Nyja.
I appreciate this conversation. The questions asked and Nyjah's courage, honesty, and vulnerability in answering. His gratefulness and positivity. I've been following him since he debuted as a kid and I'm proud to see the man / skater he's become. Peace.
When you transcend your sport you are a factor. Nyjah, P Rod, Pudwill, Chris Cole etc. I still follow because the progress is amazing. My era is Mike Carroll & Henry from SF , EMB 4 ever.
Nyah Houston, absolute legend in skateboarding! It’s rare to see him not win. Like he said though every new generation has the benefit of being able to add to tricks that have already been invented and with youth and energy on their side it gets harder to compete with that
Goes to show that timing also plays a part in being an Olympic champion. Had skateboarding been in the Olympics between 2014/2018 Nyjah would had been a champ for sure. He was so dominant during those years.
These dudes really gotta watch Nyjah's street parts, I think it would really open up their minds as to what he does and how great he is - award are great and all, but those parts are legend and will be watched for decades to come
Skateboard skills/tricks are like those gymnastic landing sticks. All you can do is rely on ALL the practice put in & have faith it works out in competition🙏🏽
Ran into Nyjah at a rave once. I called out his name about 20 feet apart and asked him for a picture. He stopped and let me take a selfie with him. Such a great guy wish you more success 🤝🏼🤙🏼
I met the dude at a demo in Roanoke TX I walked up to him an was like It's sick to meet you dude an gave him a fist bump an he was like "you too man" cool af not rude or anything. An I've been watching this dude skate for probably 20 years. Wich is how long I've been doing it.
Unc and Chad, I loved this! Grew up skateboarding and loving traditional sports. So, love seeing a segment dedicated to one of the best skaters and having a chat with him.
Thank you for sharing his story. Mental health has been put in the back ground and not addressed. Athletes and entertainers are human too. I applauded you because he needed an outlet and we need to hear his story
The goat of big rail skating, no doubt about it. Never seen someone look so comfortable on a skateboard, pretty close to perfection as you are going to get. What a g.
Shannon may be the best sports journalist/interviewer ive ever seen personally. so often i see skaters do these shows and get asked the same questions and deliver the same answer because the interviewer has no technical concept of skateboarding which pulls the air from the room. shannon doesnt understand the technical elements but he understands the perspective of an athlete and asks refreshing and unique questions that seem genuine and allows the athlete to feel comfortable and elaborate without trying to also promote or explain the sport.
I don’t even watch NBA since Reggie Miller retired, and NFL since Micheal Vick retired. But they make me watch some of the highlights just to know what they talking about.
Unc the fact y’all can have different athletes from different sports, shows that you and ocho are respected. Y’all doing something major. People are watching from all demographics.
At one point Nyjah was the Michael Jordan of competition skateboarding and nobody was even close….. now there’s dozens and dozens on his level. It would be like if the NBA had 30 guys that could shoot like Curry. It’s THAT insane at the moment, 3rd is something to be proud of.
I remember being at the Tampa Am when he was 10 and had dreadlocks to the floor and talkin to my buddies about how good this kid is. Crazy how fast time flies by. Seems like yesterday

Nyjah the goat one of my favorite skaters growing up especially cause we both Rasta and he had dreads at the time. glad other sports media is recognizing it
I've not heard about this young man he is an inspiring person 👍🏽👏🏽 Dad and his siblings skateboarders so young with a vision to compete getting wins 🎉❤. Amazing story growing up Rasta man father. Puerto Rico to California to Jamaica growing up is a lot. A young child can put a mental strain to build friendships, creating balance keep working on craft pressure on mental to have that continued success tough. You'll make it Nygl your already breaking barriers look at career the accolades an Olympian is huge. Who knew street skateboard would ever be an Olympic sport and look at You 2024 a winner medal 🥉bronze that's huge. Yes, you wanted Gold that was desire but you still won in so man facets. Congratulations to you being one of the First and more to come in future and your Nike brand shoe growth. It's a great memory and proud of you. I've seen the young ladies on TV compete. Watched some of young guys and had no idea how broad boarding is I'm much older but I do know of and seen Tony Hawk. Pretty cool to hear about you and keeping up the great fantastic work. See you in 2028🙏🏽♥️
Nyjah's skating is fascinating and scary to watch. He throws himself down these huge steep rails and gets bodied so badly just to get back up and try again until he can't even walk. The Nike SB behind the scenes video 'Need That Extras' shows just how hard the falls can be and the dedication it takes for him to get those tricks clean on film.
His outlook is the best way over that depression jlst the end of the day your paid to do what you love your having fun and sometimes you win sometimes you lose it's okay
Coming from a skater that's only been a skater, one who has seen Elementality Vol 1 over 100x and watched the seed that is Nylah Huston grow since. No kidding. Ocho was for real. Okay Ocho. Yeah that was a nasty slam you took but you looked good dropping in on the lead up. You’re a skater dude. Get on Hawk vs. Wolf when you’re here to meet Nyjah
I knew that dude internally scoffed at that Bronze. He was a good sport though. It's great to see him getting even more exposure. Golden birthday Nov 30, I wonder what's next for him.
