    Any idea where I can buy 2 new springs for this old derailleur? Thanks for this GREAT video. Your camera angles and camera focus in all those close up shots are excellent!!

      Thanks so much!! Sadly you can’t buy the springs but if you find a used broken derailleur the springs should be intact. Never had a spring break on me.

    Just an fyi for anyone watching, the cheap brakecleaner like the perilous brand one he showed will definitely damage rubber and plastic, but the higher quality more expensive stuff won’t. Wurth brand brake clean is safe on plastic and rubber, doesn’t leave an overwhelming smell that makes your head hurt and brain cells die, and it evaporates almost instantly. It’s the best aerosol degreaser ever but it’s pricey

      I’ve been using the cheap stuff on plastic occasionally without any problems it only leaves some discoloration if used way too much. (I always spray on a paper towel and wipe) Same with rubber but it could damage it if it’s very thin. Orielly brand is pretty nice too just too expensive. Whichever one you have, use it sparingly or even better just use alcohol or a degreaser. Ultrasonic cleaner is the best

    Thank you, I needed to see a live image of the internals and disassembly would have been a pain. Seems similar to Exage Action. Do you think those extra-large cages designed for modern shimano derailleurs would work? 14t cogs are supposed to be the most efficient.
    PS: If you can get your hands on one - refurbing one of the weird 70s Positron RDs would be an interesting project nobody has done a video on that I could find..

      I’m really glad you found the video helpful! Yea there are lots of different Exage derailleurs. I’ve never fitted a modern cage on an old derailleur, it may not fit and won’t be as strong, but feel free to experiment! Sorry I don’t have one a positron derailleur yet, but I have plenty others to cover. I’m glad you found this helpful!

    Hi, Thank you for the great video. Please share how to rebuild Shimamo Brake Shifter STI M050 (as a shifter for 400LX) 🤝👍

      Try getting a rubber o ring from a hardware store that’ll fit or just run it without

    Great video! This should work on a 300LX too right?

      It should work if the shifters are friction.
      Good luck!!

      You get the top P knuckle bolt, then find the threads on the back of it and match them with your derailleur hanger which is right below the dropout and then screw it in. Hope that helps

    i can't for the life of me find out if i can put a 10 speed 11-34t cassette with this

    • @RetroRebuilds
      @RetroRebuilds  3 роки тому +1

      It can handle 34T but it’s risky putting it on a 10 speed. I would personally stick with the old drivetrain.

      @@RetroRebuilds yeah, i don't think it's going to work out. I bet cleaning these make a world of difference.

      10 speed can work with friction shifting but can be finicky and difficult due to the spacing. The cable pull for shimano is the same up to 10 speed for road (as long as it's not Tiagra 4700). 11-34 may work depending on your front rings.
