As a Safety Engineer one of my greatest concerns after a tragedy is employee’s that evacuate an failing to report, this results in responders searching for a victim which does not exist, in the event you should find yourself in a situation such as this make sure you report your escape the last thing you want is a responder losing their life searching for you as a victim.
Thats standard Osha protocol! A meeting place away from the building is predetermined and employees meet there, safety team takes count! I worked for Roche and the CAC workers right to know law!!

It's absolutely terrible, but the loss of life could have been way worse considering the scope of the storm and the fact that it was overnight. I wish it never happened, but I am glad so many survived.
I was a mile away from an EF-5 during the 2011 super outbreak in Alabama. Many of these cities in Kentucky look just as bad if not worse than the EF5 damage I witnessed. It's a wonder none of these tornadoes showed blatant EF5 damage.

I grew and live in an Indian Ocean island...., where severe tropical storms, were hitting the island in the mid 20th century...destroying everything , especially wooden or partly wooden houses. Then in the 1970's, gradually everyone started to build 'concrete houses'...and this was probably, more resistant to strong and violent winds, resulting in less houses destroyed and casualties, when there is a powerful cyclone. I think Americans people , ..... especially those living in the highly tornado sensible risks zones/regions! ....should start building concrete houses/buildings etc.......just an opinion.....👍

Something I don't quite understand is why are there no bricks and mortar in sooo many of these homes. I see lots of timber and drywall, but little of substance. Are there different building standards in the US? My home is 35 years old. All of the main structure is brick, with drywall only used as in a few inner walls. New builds are the same.
Interesting comment. I live on the east coat where there is hardly ever a tornado. My house is 100 years old but still made of wood. I think most US people don't treasure history and old houses and prefer to build new, and wood house would be cheaper.

Bedsides, seems like there’s natural disasters everywhere these days - wildfires, floods, hurricanes, ice storms. Weather is less predictable and more extreme. Unfortunately, Kentucky is a poor state and many of the people there live month to month on minimum wage, social security or SSI.

Why do people live in tornado alleys? It causes horrific
suffering, descruction and leaves the taxpayer on the hook when it strikes. Instead
of moving out they say "rebuild." What for? To wait for it to happen all
over again? Makes no sense.
Kentucky is not tornado alley. Kentucky isn't even in the Midwest
Where else are you supposed to go if you already lived here, lived here your whole life, family, friends, jobs, kids, it’s not easy to just pick up and move your whole life like one might expect. There are natural disasters anywhere you go really.
@@bunnyford7691 It's easy if your life is at risk. I mean look at this. The area was eviscerated. You see the same thing over and again in these disaster prone areas. They continue to move back and build it up again waiting for the next big bad wolf to blow it down. If they want to risk their lives at least don't make others pay for their bad decisions.

@@ChannelNews1 do you realize how big tornado alley is?! Lol, so your saying thousands upon thousands of people should move and uproot their whole lives for something you have no control over. Nobody can control the weather, they have warnings, also storm shelters are a huge thing in the wid-west and tornado alley. That’s like telling everyone who lives by the coast to move because of hurricanes, or low lying areas to move because they are prone to flooding. That’s practically impossible….
