Mike I'm sure you're aware that when the coolant fluid gets hot it expands and when it cools it contracts that's why you have the reservoir tank it'll push fluid into the tank when the system is pressurized and it'll suck it back in when it cools down! Thanks for the video
Hey Mike, I don't have one of those burping kits, but I do know that the thermostat opens up at 186 degrees. And that was my main problem, with no water in the manifold with the new engine installed, the thermostat didn't want to open, it got way hot (235) and I stopped the burping process. Talked to a good friend that told me to remove the thermostat and then start up the motor with the heater on. You watch the coolant circulation thru the radiator opening and fill till it's full. It burps at the same time you fill it, then reinstall the thermostat after it cools off, and it solved my problems. Mine is a TPI stock setup, with stock aluminium heads.
Maybe the funnel pushing down in the prevented it from going to the overflow tank. You know, I just flushed my new to me 84 yesterday and man the old stuff was nasty. Like yours, though twice as dirty. As bad as it was, I will need to do it again in the future I think. Love that kit and may order one. Thanks for the link.
Excellent video! I'm sure you are aware, but be sure to check to see if the seal the cap to your coolant reservoir is intact. If it's missing or broken it can lead to overheating. As far as I know they aren't sold, but you can make one out of cork gasket material. That's what I did for my 85.
@@Mikes84Corvette it was hard to see but I see it now that there’s sunlight lol last night I was Devon’s home and all of a sudden coolant spikes to 260-270 max. I pulled in and let her sit. I found my cool was low and my radiator fluid was very low in the reservoir

You might have something there - I never thought of that. And yes - the kit makes it very easy.

I recommend ro flush the whole cooling system with clear water before adding new coolant. I also did it @my 84. The old coolant was really disgusting.

My coolant reserve is very low so I fill that all the way? I’ve ended had to fill the reservoir
There are lines for cold or hot fill.
