Mike's 84 Corvette
United States
Приєднався 20 сер 2015
I recently bought a 1984 Corvette. With these videos I hope to show people some of the interesting details about the car, repairs I've made, and and provide some guidance for other people with similar Corvettes. Plus I hope these videos entertain too!
Easy Project? Sun Visor Replacement
This should be an easy job. But like most projects - it was a bit harder than I anticipated.

C4 Corvette Back Up Camera Installation and Review

Everyone loves their back-up cameras right? Why not add one to a C4 Corvette? This one is inexpensive, easy to install, and works well.
Do All Mazdas Rust? 2011 Mazda CX-9 Rust Remediation.
Переглядів 245Рік тому
Mazda's "had" a bad reputation as rusters. Things have gotten better but not perfect. I noticed a bunch of surface rust on under body parts on my 2011 CX-9 while changing the oil. I scraped it off and applied a rust inhibitor hoping to delay any further damage.
Outback Gets the AvalonKing Ceramic Coating Treatment
Переглядів 68Рік тому
AvalonKing saw my recent videos where I used their ceramic coating kit and asked if I could coat a "newer" car. So, I gave my son's 2021 Outback a good cleaning and prep and put down a nice ceramic coating.
Oil Pressure Sender Removal - C4 Corvette
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
Last time I did an oil changed I noticed oil seeping down on to the oil pan. Sometimes these oil leaks can be traced back to the oil pressure sender which, over time, can leak. It looked like mine was covered in oil and grime so I decided to replace it.

Glaze - Not Just for Doughnuts!

I'm always trying different products to see if they can make the paint on my 84 Corvette look any better. This time I tried an automotive glaze polish to see what it would do.
C4 Corvette Retro Radio Installation & Review

The original AM/FM stereo cassette player in my 84 Corvette was pretty much dead. I wanted to replace it with something that had modern tech but still looked period correct. This "retro" radio worked out perfectly!

Can a Harbor Freight Fluid Extractor Make a C4 CORVETTE Cooling System Flush Easier?
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 роки тому
I wanted to flush my cooling system, replace my thermostat, and the lower radiator hose to get ready for summer. Not wanting to make a huge mess I tried a Harbor Freight fluid extractor. It worked great - but unfortunately I need more tools and space to really do it right next time. I DID replace the other parts successfully!
Fixing Leaky Corvette Heater Control Valve
Переглядів 2,5 тис.2 роки тому
The Corvette heater control valve is prone to leaking. Finding the exact replacement part is near impossible. There is a way to fix the leak by using parts from another heater control valve and replacing the leaky parts in the original unit.

5 (Actually 4) Projects for Now and Later on My C4 CORVETTE

I've got some stuff to do on my 84 Corvette. One project was easy, the next project is just a big question, the third one hopefully won't cost me $$$, the fourth one fixed itself (is that possible?) and the last one looks like a win -except for some faulty packaging.

Fixing My Crappy Plastic Snow Blower - Mike's 84 Corvette
I removed my sun visors and left them off. Hey why no new videos did you die?
Awesome! My TPS died and just started dumping fuel into the pots. I disconnected it and surprisingly it ran to get me home. Had no idea the positioning was so critical. Now I do!
Nice! Glad to hear you got it all sorted out.
It's interesting seeing how the crossfire system works up close. I actually have an '82, and it's pretty hard to find content on the L83s that isn't just ragging on it. Cool stuff
Thanks for watching!
Hey Mike! Thanks for the video. Do you know what parts you ordered on eBay for the male and female pin connector ends? I’m trying to make a harness myself so I can dial this in. Thank you!
Lmk if you figure out! Need the same info
I found them on eBay 4 years ago. Weatherpak female terminals 20 - 18 gauge Chevrolet GM wiring wire terminals type 7 male 18 - 20 gauge Good luck!
@@Mikes84Corvette thank you Mike! I’m trying to get this corvette back to life and this was the last thing it needed. Hopefully it works
@@nepneppy9626 I hope you can find them - let me know!
@@Mikes84Corvette I did and got it all ready. I found out my problem isn’t with the actual tps. The ecu is sending 5 volts and the ground is grounding but the positive wire is giving out nothing.
Thank you for your video Mike! I enjoyed very much your explanation about crossfire injection and also I think you have a great and funny personality! Only 46 seconds of video were enough for me to became a subscriber. Best of luck for you and your beloved c4
We need a good CLOSE UP VIEW. You cannot tell where you connected to , what the original wire colors are. You did not check for 5 volts on one wire, you did not compare the ground wire with the battery ground to determine if the ground wire to the ecm and ecm ground to the battery were the same.
Thanks for watching!
Hey what do the light pink, dark pink, and white wire go to I was changing the radio out on my 84’ and I was left with 3 wires that I don’t know what they go too. I have the Bose system from factory so maybe they go too the dash speakers?
I’m sorry but I don’t know the answer. Good luck!
Brill mike .....mine was running rough.... followed your method ...wooow sweet as now....cheers bud....
Awesome!!
What stereo is this? Can someone add the link for it
This is it www.retromanufacturing.com/collections/vehicle-search/products/1984-89-chevrolet-corvette-newport-1-5-din-direct-fit-radio
Fascinating piece of tech.
It is! Thanks for watching.
does your car have the Bose system ? Did you keep the Bose speakers in the car ?
No it did not have the Bose system and speakers.
My coolant reserve is very low so I fill that all the way? I’ve ended had to fill the reservoir
There are lines for cold or hot fill.
@@Mikes84Corvette it was hard to see but I see it now that there’s sunlight lol last night I was Devon’s home and all of a sudden coolant spikes to 260-270 max. I pulled in and let her sit. I found my cool was low and my radiator fluid was very low in the reservoir
Great vid
Thanks!
Just curious, how is the crossfire injection treating you? That was quite problematic. I was wondering if it was any better on the vettes
No problems with it so far!!
Harbor freight has great deals on tools and an amazing warranty for Pittsburgh products
True!
easy removal and installation... is right under the car ..... just drop the antenna down removing the two nuts on the support bracket reach up and unscrew the plastic screw- on mounting cap at the top of the antenna.. that is the hardest part.. it's a stretch to reach it.. instead of trying to get the antenna cable out remove the two small screws that hold it to the antenna housing itself and it comes right off.. there are 3 wires going to the antenna... just clip each wire and before you reinstall the antenna add about 5 inches of wire to each wire you clipped... that will give you plenty of wire to play with and recrimp each wire back together and tape over the newly crimped wires... removal and reinstall less than an hour.... you don't even have to jack up the car
Nice!
The absolute Worst manual transmission ever made was replaced with ZF 6 Speed in 1989
Thanks for watching!
Who did your pin stripe on your car ? Obviously not factory but it looks good I might just do that on my 85 when I get it repainted.
I don’t know! It was there when I bought the car.
Yo Mike I got an 84 corvette from my mom, it was my grandfathers, it doesn’t start it turns over but we’re gonna work on the injectors and what now, I’m glad to see someone with the same model
Nice! Good luck with it!!
@@Mikes84Corvette I’ll give you an update, got the injectors. Just gotta try and put them in tomorrow and we’ll see what happens, next up on the list is the fuel filter and pump
Why are you selling it
Changed my mind. Not selling.
Just noticed yesterday he has it listed on Craigslist in North Jersey for $4500.00....

What number are the bigger bulb?
Do you still plan on posting new vids? It's been awhile... 😓
Love the videos, Mike! I just bought an 84’ Corvette with the crossfire engine as well. I’m in Edison, NJ.
Nice! Good luck with it!
Hey Mike, mine reads 506 no matter the position I have it in. Any suggestions?
do you have anything on disabling alarm system?
Sorry. I don’t.
I'm having the same issue with my 85 Corvette and honestly that is one feature of a car I have never liked and is a power antenna to they always break and are a pain to remove as and fix id just assume have a regular mast antenna on the car it won't affect the aero dynamics or look of the car in my opinion and never have to fix it unless it some how gets broken off.
Great video! Looking to install a Newport into my 87 C4. Nicely done!
Thanks! Good luck with the installation.
is it really necessary to remove the wiper motor? I am struggling to remove the electric plug on top of the wiper motor, it wont come out, possibly the connectors rusted on ? i dont want to force it and break something....
I suppose if you can’t get that plug out you might be able to at least move the motor out of the way somewhat. Makes the job easier
When you disassembled/reassembled the struts, you only show the washer and clip on each side. You do not show the spacers at each end of the strut and if there is also a washer on the "head-end" of the pin. I would like to see all the strut parts that are part of the assembly. Thanks.
After watching more videos I do see that the spacers are integral to the brackets. It would be nice to know the dimensions of the spacer, particularly the length of the spacer (distance between bracket and the end of the spacer where the strut contacts the spacer.
Thank you, but I wish I could see it lit up
I got rear window louvers that are made for your 84 I didn’t like em with my ground affects kit I had done I paid almost 500 from the ecklers I’d let you get em cheap if your interested get ahold of me
Thanks for the offer but not interested.
Easy-peasy!
Thanks, Mike
Cool, thanks. I'm currently refurbishing a 1988 manual coupe, in which I'm happy to have the L98 TPI engine with aluminum heads. It's a nice improvement over the 1984 L83 Crossfire setup. But, I'm really glad that some guys, like you, have decided to preserve original 1984 C4s, even though the Crossfire system (and some other quirks) can be a pain to deal with.
Had issues with my 88 Vette with old dougies trans. First problem is if it needs work, good luck finding a shop to work on it. When it worked properly is was fun to drive even more so than my current 2000 six speed because I didn't have to depress the clutch pedal to get into a higher gear. I even wired mine to operate in first gear. Mine had the switch in the shifter
cool video Mike, I have a 1985 and just received 2 new struts. Cant wait to install them now...
Wouldn't like a Gear Vendors-style box (or, I suppose, like a 2-speed Brownie box if you're familiar with heavy trucks) be just as effective and simpler? Or is it more or less the same thing?
My taillights say 83 to
Ty for your videos helped me out alot
It would have been nice to see you attach the shifter boot.
Like the ram air system
I need to do this on my 84. Do you have a link for the antenna?
Hey Mike, great video, learned a lot! Had a cross-fire in an old Z-28 I bought for my wife. Ran great, lots of low end torque. Such a simple F.I. system... Thanks from a former resident of Ridgewood in Bergen County, up near Saddle River and the NY state line...
Excellent. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
You need a camera mount. Let’s fully commit to this UA-cam channel about your corvette.
looks very cheap...
Works great!!
Which is sadly not all I want from an aftermarket radio in a classic car.@@Mikes84Corvette
There's a chrome plated one if you want to go that route but the standard black plastic model looks exactly like all the other cheap black plastic in the car - in other words, it looks like a perfect fit.@@alfderbabybenz7092
Hello, great video! Do you know part number of screws/stud, self tapping of antenna bracket please?
Sorry I don’t know the part number.
