something similar happened to a couple many years ago while they were shooting with permission on private land back in the late 70s early 80s but on this occasion there was just a couple of police officers with a police dog. They were a retired gamekeeper and his wife who was the local landlady who also was shooting.
They were off the beaten track and the police turned up and challenged them with the words of stand still or I'll release my dog to which she raised her shotgun saying you release that dog and I'll shoot it as we are not doing anything wrong we have full licenses and full permission to shoot this ground so the stand off began! After a while the local bobby realised who it was and the stand off finished. Then when all calmed down the dog handler asked you wouldn't have shot my dog would you and she replied yes I bloody would have and you talking to local bobby said and you should do your homework before wasting police time and resources. This lady still runs the local pub in the dales at nearly 80 and she's still going strong and pulls excellent beer.

I just had my guns seized a month ago just because a neighbour made a complaintn the 23,06,23 that i had a shot gun in my garden a year ago when i was showing it to another neighbour who is a sgc,fac holder like myself. I had 8 armed police a drone and about 10 other police vehicles surround my house they took 4 shotguns a rifle a broken air rifle and even a catapault aswell as all my ammunition. I was in the cell for 11hrs and released with no further action but still have not got my stuff back. Something needs to be done. No onecwants to help me im even a member of the basc and it seems im just left paying my membership for nothing. I think philsmith's post (after yours) demonstrates how futile that would be. The police are incapable of doing their job properly so they resort to attempting to do it illegally. They can get away with murder, and I'm sure at times they do, except on the odd occasion e.g. RIP Sarah Everard. On lesser issues they have complete contempt for any laws of the road (or other). UA-cam is utterly littered with postings of their illegal parkings (while they go for a coffee, while they go for a snack, while they do some shopping etc.etc.etc.). I'm sure that the majority of them have zero understanding of shotgun certificate/firearms certificate laws or shooting (General) licences. They hear a 'gun' is involved so swamp the area with a bunch of utter incompetents. One can understand that if the information they've received is vague after all it could be the start of another Manchester bombing but I doubt it in a farmers field. In reality I don't believe that's the case at all. Here we have GMP acting (and I mean acting) like they are in a 1950's WildWest movie or clambering over fences like in WW1. Jeez they're pathetic. From what I can see GMP fucked up here (again) and the non return of the shotguns that are legally held and that should never have been taken in the first place is illegal, buy hey we're talking GMP here. IF the video displayed is real and true to the incident then we now know why Manchester is what Manchester is. It's because it is policed by real goons who would rather have a wet walk in a field than doing real police work for the law abiding community.

Polite sensible conversations with todays police is not always possible, theres some proper idiots in the police now , a lot of them despise the fact that you actually own a gun legally,
And when confronted with the fact that you know more about the law than them become quite aggitated and abusive and try to escalate things in order to confiscate your gun ,

A friend was threatened by a poacher, who he disarmed and dragged over a fence, on his own land. The police came out, gave the gun back to the poacher and let him go despite there being an independent witness to the threat with the gun. The police then threatened the farmer with charges of assault and would take his guns off him. The poachers, travelers, just walked away laughing.
Another friend called the police when some chaps tried to break into his garage. He was told no one was available. "Don't worry, I'll just get the gun out". and hung up. His son in law gave chase giving a running commentary of where they were going to 999 expecting some sort of response if he got near some police. 5 minutes later, two armed response were bashing on the door, fully armed, for him to come out. He told them his son in law was chasing the criminals and they just said never mind "Where are the guns?" spending the next half hour telling him off, even though he had no guns.
An elderly couple had someone break into there house whilst at home. They ran into the garden and called the police. No one available. They had to stand there and wait for him to leave with all the stuff. They did call the next day though, to see if he was still there.
These were all West Mercia. And I could go on with more.
The police are not any ones friends now, and actively target the victim.
