Interesting observation about musicians and music: after seeing and listening to a number of Bryan’s blazing solos, then listening to this interview (which I found riveting, btw), I notice such a strong parallel between how musicians play and how they ARE. The style/type/kind of play (in his case, fast, mile-a-minute, TONS of intriguing ideas) is reflected in his speech pattens, fast, mile-a-minute, so much so, I had to back up a number of times to figure out what he said. I find this true in many cases. For instance, I had the great fortune to meet Jim Hall years ago; he was the epitome of a gentle soft-spoken man, and this was totally reflected in his playing; a drummer friend of mine is the most bombastic busy, over-playing guy I’ve ever worked with, and I can hardly stand talking with him because THAT’S how he approaches conversations, aggressive, wordy non-stop in your face assault. Interesting. Thanks for this interview. Highly inspirational
This is a fascinating interview. Hell of a player, too. Thanks for sharing.
Man this video deserves many more views. Bryan is such a phenomenal musician.
8:37 this is a hilarious critique on shred obsessed players
Great video, thanks.
He reminds me of Wayne Krantz.
A master of his craft. His insight is invaluable. I wondered what happened to him!
His ego destroyed him.
11:21 “ we want to hear groove and memorable melody “
"It matches my profession" dude is on another level what an awesome musician
Digression is my profession.

So good. Thanks for this!
I love this guy. There's so goddamn little of him on UA-cam. I'm going through his book right now and it's really great.
Whats the name?
@@lulimas Principles of Music. I think you can find it on Amazon,
I wish he could talk about his influences !
More than using scales in a different way, I think some of the fast intervals he play can be found in Shawn Lane's or Thelonious Monk's music.
Sounds like maybe some Wayne Krantz influence?
Bryan's rhythmic phrasing is amazing! Just stumbled on him again! What is he up to?
This guy is fantastic! I'd like to learn more about him, but the links in the description don't work for me :(
