Hi everyone! Unfortunately my first edit of this reaction was blocked, I've done my best and I hope you can still enjoy this version! I will endeavour to get the full edit online in the future but in the meantime, if you'd like to watch the full video with no mask/stops, I've posted it on Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/84313445? 😊
You certainly ended up sending it through a blender, but it doesn't matter. We can listen to the original straight after and get the goosebumps on. We're not gonna sit in silence...
Honestly, I really can't see John having any problem with you showing it in all its glory tbh. He'd probably email and thank you for your appreciation.
The Orchestra always loved playing for John. By the end of a concert he has usually introduced them all and his band and backup singers that we all know well. I have always loved how everyone there is as important as he is to him. I don’t think he ever knew he was important. Thank you.
I’ve had the privilege of being at many a Farnsy concert & every one has been an experience of a lifetime…Another worldly experience. He has always given 10,000% to his audience & fans-You feel his music deep in your soul. He is fighting hard right now, & I just hope John feels all our love. You are a national treasure mate!!! Big, big, big, HUGE, MASSIVE 🇦🇺love!!!
So glad you enjoyed this one so much. Please listen to John and Olivia newton John ( best friends) singing Please don’t ask me 1998. Also John singing amazing grace with his backup singers. You will love both live performances
My dearest mate & very well known Aussie Union Official was Mike Fisher. Mike was old school, really brave, as hard as nails, fierce when necessary, funny as buggery & he literally saved my life twice & I'll love him forever !!! We're pretty sure he & John had met before but at a big show in Melbourne Mike asked John if he could say a quick hello to his daughter who suffered terribly with Spina Bifida. John went way beyond Hi & spent a good & precious half hour with Mikeys daughter signing autographs, giving her souvenirs, a big cuddle & more. She died early in life from her illness but talked about that night ever since. So still do we.
Now that I've finally had a chance to sit down and watch this, I can confirm that the song, the singer and the reactor are three of the best things on the internet. Bravo 🙌
Brilliant breakdown Nina! You’re the first reactor I’ve seen who’s picked up on the drone notes in the intro! It’s so refreshing to watch someone who truly understands the gamut of talent in this performance ❤
40-odd year old Aussie here, whose been to several Farnsy concerts. The man is a machine on stage, he comes from that era that made their living doing live gig's - just the sheer amount of emotion he puts into the performance, is palpable in the audience. And this song in particular, aside from being the highest selling Australian artists song for decades, just makes you feel something, whether you heard it when it was released, or for the first time now, the lyrics still ring true to this day. It's magical.
Thanks for the great reaction,The song is very well written and brilliantly delivered by John.John has a voice that no matter what he sings, Ballads,, Rock, Opera, he delivers every time every song John gives a 100 percent. The mood you’re in when you listen to John changes he fills with feelings of joy and happiness. The feelings for me have gone on for fifty years, He will always be G.O.A.T. To me I’m just another one who will tell how we love and respect John, some reactors say he sounds like this one or that one but to Aussies he is The Voice, and there will never be another who sounds like JF❤
Farnsy is an amazing artist and sadly underappreciated. I know I didn't give him enough credit when I was a teenager growing up, listening to him through my mothers song choices. I find it interesting that I now see reaction channels worldwide giving him his due credit, that I took for granted, but can now appreciate.
I 100% agree. I'm almost 40 now and when I was a teen in the 19s and early 2000s I would always skip his songs as it was my mum's music but actually he is an amazing artist that I appreciate in full now.
The original drums at the start was his manager Gleen Wheatleys porche door slaming. The writers didn't want John recording it. He did it anyway. They are glad he ignored them.
He actually threw the mic stand high in the air ... caught it before it hit the ground ... then threw it away. All while singing. Check it out. There is a change in camera angle between the throw and catch. Also he retrieves the mic stand later in the song with a very cool flick of his foot. Love your emotion to this song. I also cry every time I listen to it.
The greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time. And the stage presence and an awesome performer all round. Often throwing his mic stand meters in the air and catch it while still performing, John loves his mic and mic stand tricks, whenever he starts playing and winding up the mic stand you know he’s going to do something with it.
Hey Nina. Certain songs you could say are almost supernatural in their composition. This is such a song - an peace anthem of unity. A call to arms to reject fear and violence. Extraordinary. Check out John's 'When The War is Over' from the same concert. Another emotional anthem of a soldier returning home.
You're the Voice is explaining that even through arguments or even war time (down the barrel of a gun) we shouldn't be silent or live in fear, because we are all human and can sort it out, especially if we stick together. This song speaks to the very soul with empathy and gives us all hope.
Anyone mentioned Kasey Chambers doing 'Lose Yourself' yet? she sang it with her heart and soul, great lyrics brought to life with a little help from a banjo. And her father.
Thank you Nina for your great reaction and appreciation of our phenomenal Aussie Legend, John Farnham! I think you can see why, like so many Australians, I have loved John for 50 + years. His band of amazing musicians are a treat to watch too. I feel very privileged to have attended many of John Farnham's concerts over the decades. You now have 6 decades of John's hit songs to catch up on:
Nina I get emotional when I listen to this song too. In a way it's become a unofficial Australian National Anthem and I feel proud to be Australian everytime I watch John Farnham perform.
You missed one of the most extraordinary things in the stage performance. It was just before he throws the mic stand away. The camera angle is behind him and he throws the mic stand, spinning, 3 metres into the air and catches it with one hand. Have a close look at 6:41
John Farnham has to be one of my favourite male vocalists and this must have been an amazing concert to be present at - the energy in the room just hits you. I had the pleasure of seeing John Farnham sing this live when he was a surprise act at a Prince's Trust concert in Birmingham many years ago and he did not disappoint. Walked on the stage and introduced himself with 'I'm John Farnham and I'm an Australian', and then just launched into 'I'm the Voice'. Just magical. Love your reaction to this. Both this and also his cover of 'Help' reduce me to tears every time. Besides the performance what a powerful message these lyrics deliver.
Thanks for the great reaction Nina. As Australians, we can feel incredibly honoured to have had John Farnham, his songs, his incredible musicians, his wonderful voice and his fantastic way of entertaining us over the years. The best part though is that knowledgeable and enthusiastic people like you are now showing many others just how awesome he is.
Oh please ! She talked / sang / cried / Talked some more & then cried again 🙈👎 She stuffed his performance by stop start at every turn 🙈👎 The best reactors listen to the full performance or maybe stop video once & then comment & break down the performance at the end ! She sang / had cry twice ! & Stopped his performance way to many times ! Not to mention she continuously spoke over him 🙈 She made it all about herself..👎 Steve from Qld Australia 🇦🇺🏄♂️🍹
@Raelene Williams Oh please ! I'd hate to sit n watch a movie with you 🤣 You'd be like her & talk / cry / talk more / talk over the movie just because it related to what we were watching 🙈👎🤣🤣🤣
@Raelene Williams I know what Reaction video's are & the concept of them ! But she could stop less times & comment & break it all down at the end of the video like most good reactors do ! She made it about herself by singing / crying / talkin over the top of John's performance ! & way to many stops ! She would appreciate the video & performance i think if she watched & listened in full once & then watch again & break it down & explain her views on it ! She cried twice & spoke during the whole video & frigg me she also sang a couple of times & talked over him 🙈👎 That's not how the good reactors do it ..
Nina, THANK YOU so much for your gorgeous reaction to both John and this song. I’ve loved John since I was 5. I’m now 58! His voice is like no other and he is such a lovely person. So down to earth and personable. I’ve been to at least 10 of his concerts and every single one was out of this world. Such an amazing performer. I’m just glad the rest of the world is now realising what a talent we’ve been blessed to have here in Australia on our own back door. So proud of John and wishing him well in his recovery
Thankyou so much for posting thois, even though the trouble with copyright. It means a lot to us Aussies that you went through the trouble to do so. 👍👍👍
Playing to win from the same concert is up there with YTV, Help and IALWTTT from the same concert they are peak Farnham and as much as YTV is a unifying anthem and Help is a plea so Playing to Win is dynamic and energetic and motivational. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Also, and I've seen it mentioned here previously, Angels with Lisa Edwards (backing vocalist with crimped hair and studded bodice and herself in possession of a stunning voice) is a treat. The friendship and admiration they have for each other is palpable have your tissues handy. And lastly Black Dog the Led Zeppelin cover which is the song Farnham and the band use for a sound check will BLOW YOUR MIND (sadly no video only audio on this as it was not a song he performed in concert (maybe a couple of times but no video of those) he out Zeppelin's Plant.
Great reaction video. Thanks so much for posting this. For me, it just reminds me of my childhood when this song came out. Everyone loved him and we're extremely fortunate to grow up with him in Oz.
Lovely reaction. I like how you break down the key changes and point out how it builds the tension. You might have missed it but just before he throws away the mic stand, he has actually thrown it up in the air and caught it again on the beat (I think the shot of him just comes back as he is catching it on the left of the screen, hard to pick up but amazing). Amazing voice, we all love him ❤
I cried too. When you see the best performers at the top of their game it's very moving. This is a song that is appreciated on one level as a popular song that charted (of course); but music buffs and insiders (like you) can see the master class that is being offered vocally and musically.
This song is my go to driver when I’m coming to the end of a run - it is ridiculously propulsive, even after 5 km! I got to sing with John as part of the choir at Melbourne’s Carols By Candlelight, many years ago, and he was always amazing to everyone on stage.
Thank you or your reaction Nina. Loved it ❤. If you want to see a bit of Johns cheeky side have a look at “Angels” live with Lisa Edwards, one of Johns long time backing vocalists (the one with the crimped hair). A lovely song that I think you will enjoy.
No argument here. Definately one of the best songs ever. Thankyou for persisting and getting your reaction through the copyright issues..Age of Reason or Pressure Down next
John is a legend in Australia. He hasn't been well of late and the whole country is behind him. There was a recent doco movie in the cinemas here called John Farnham: Finding the voice which gives his whole back story and is a good watch. if you can find it, it is a great watch
That song was a phenomenon when it came out in the 80s. It made him the biggest name in Australia but for whatever reason he didn't become known outside Australia, but we knew he was special, that this album was special, that this song was a masterpiece. It's so strange reliving that now, seeing people new to his music, reliving the phenomenon. Looking back, some incredible music in Australia in the 80s was missed by the rest of the world. We all knew the British and American stuff, but I wonder what hidden gems we've all missed from other countries.
The venue used to be The National Tennis Centre (stage 1. built 1988) to host the Australian Open. Outer courts were added over the years. There were two centre courts The Rod Laver and the Margaret Court (courts) and later another major court, the John Cain Court. That John Farnham concert was held there in 1989 when the capacity was 14,820-ish. It was the first tennis venue in the world to have a retractable roof, so good for concerts. I really enjoy your heart felt analyses. The John Farnham cinematic documentry playing now in Australia is said to be being followed up by a CD and DVD release available to a larger (hopefully international) audience.
"He threw the mix stand". You missed the vid from the rear a few seconds before: he actually threw it high in the air like a marching band leader throwing his stick thing, caught it, and then the throw you saw.
Hi Nina for me John’s best performance was in 2003 singing When The War is Over. It is epic and beautiful. I’m sure you will love it. Angels is also up there cheers
Hi Nina. Love your review of this song, you explain the musicality if it so well. And yes, I share your tears at the brilliance of John's voice and all his accompanying band, singers and orchestra. It's ACE, stunning. John can sing absolutely anything. And if you haven't seen the video of It's a Long Way to the Top - you've missed more pure gold. E❤
Really liked your critique of John. His first song "Sadie the cleaning lady" came out in the 60s Thankwhen my daughter was only 2 and john was about 20. whenever it came on the radio she would grab her toy broom and mop and start cleaning the floor to the music so john singing allways brings back a spesial memory. The song itself is just a catchy little silly ditty but it does show John's early talent and future potential. Thanks again
I'm old enough to remember when this song was released and i love it as much now as i did back then. It was only recently that i realised the lyric wasn't "we rob someone's daughter, we rob someone's son". Can't imagine how many times i've sung the wrong words in all those years.
Really chuffed that you like our legend John and his music. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions to him. You've now heard the sax solo and the bagpipes. If you would like to hear the piano solo watch 'Age of Reason" from the same concert. Figured you would like this as you are a pianist yourself. Thanks Nina!!
You should watch the entire concert ..... its amazing start to finish ! Starting with Age of Reason !!! with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra playing the prelude.
As great as John is, every time I watch this, I can’t help but be impressed by the background singers. They’re absolutely flawless, but they also somehow match his energy, his expression. It gets me every time. I think he worked with the same singers for many years, and I’m sure he rode them hard to get what he wanted. But man, do they deliver.
It doesn't matter how many different people react to this performance, and only seeing him throw the microphone stand across the stage; barring one reaction out of over 20 reactions, you all missed the fact that he baton tossed it in the air before throwing it. John's wife Jill keeps telling him off for how he likes to twirl or toss the mic stand around; it is now, one of his signature antics. So you need to watch his performances more closely, because you never know when he's about to do it or someother antic on stage; he can be very self-effacing, and really funny(he even says he's a bit of a 'goofball').
I cannot recommend enough that you do John’s performance of When The War Is Over from the Last Tome concert in 2003. I think it may be his best ever vocal performance, at 54. It is simply astounding in its performance delivery and technical prowess.
Hi Nina! I was very fortunate to see John in Sydney in umm well decades ago.. Could I suggest you have a quick look at "John Farnham - Please Don't Ask Me - TV Talk Show Version" It gives an idea of John the entertainer as well as a live, unwarmed up/ surprise version of a song he hadn't sung for ages :P It shows how good the skills and teamwork of the aussie entertainment was in those days.
🌟🌟🌟 he has never had any formal singing training or anything , all natural talent .he is now 74 and was still singing like this into his 70s until his mouth cancer surgery🌟🌟🌟
But in a way he's had amazing coaching. His backup singers have taught him alot and sing together all day. Theres some vocal beasts like Venetta Fields back there.
The song was ubiquitous on the radio while I was growing up. Never really occurred to me that there were people who didn't know it. Try 'Angels LIVE 2000', or 'Burn for You (High Quality)' - we might get more tears out of you yet.
Sorry you had to chop into the video to get your reaction up. John's performances are legendary and the world needs to see what they've missed out on all these years!

Before he throws the mic stand across stage he throws it right up in the air and then catches it on the beat!!
god really? thats ridiculous because others have been able to get it through, but iv had the same thing years ago
It seems that you're a bit of Aussie at heart Ms Schofield. 🇦🇺 👍😉
I have never witnessed another performer that has so much presence on stage and don't even start me on the voice of his!!!
The copyright is crazy at the moment because of the documentary just out over here. I'll send this to John and Jill
Thanks so much Matt! Yes it’s such a shame I couldn’t post the full thing.
Honestly, I really can't see John having any problem with you showing it in all its glory tbh. He'd probably email and thank you for your appreciation.

Also John singing amazing grace with his backup singers. You will love both live performances
Love it when I see a great vocal coach reacting to the Voice singing you’re the voice, nothing better.
Glad you enjoy it! 😊
Your reaction to John had me in tears, too.
He is such a fabulous, powerful and masterful singer it's difficult not to be moved 🩷
Bravo 🙌
Nina is so compassionate, soft hearted woman. She's the only vocal coach I saw crying. ❤
Brilliant breakdown Nina! You’re the first reactor I’ve seen who’s picked up on the drone notes in the intro! It’s so refreshing to watch someone who truly understands the gamut of talent in this performance ❤
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. I love a good drone note ❤

He didn’t do When the War is Over at this concert. There’s a couple available, but not with the MSO
@@jeffwilson7100 Thanks for the correction 🙂
Their is a reason why we named our John "the voice"!!! 🤍🙏🤗
You're the Voice is explaining that even through arguments or even war time (down the barrel of a gun) we shouldn't be silent or live in fear, because we are all human and can sort it out, especially if we stick together. This song speaks to the very soul with empathy and gives us all hope.

John’s band is combined with the orchestra every musician there was enjoying it, band or orchestra
CRAZY! WHY are the other REACTIONS to THIS SONG NOT BLOCKED????
Now you know why it's Australia's unofficial national anthem.
Couldn’t think of a better unofficial anthem! Thank you for your support ❤
Enjoyed your reaction and comments! Thank you for reacting and appreciating the legendary John Farnham!
This song was a world wide hit for him. He should have had a global career. He is definetly the voice of all time and music genre ❤
This was like an anthem for us down here, we can do anything!
The song is meaningful. Just what we all need now.
I agree!
Before throwing the mic stand across the stage he tossed it up in the air and caught it, then threw it. 15.12.23. UK. E❤
I remember getting a bonus from my boss ( significant at the time) and I used the $ to go see John with my son. Wonderful
“He threw the mic stand”
Most people miss that he threw it straight up and caught it before throwing it across the stage
"He threw the mix stand". You missed the vid from the rear a few seconds before: he actually threw it high in the air like a marching band leader throwing his stick thing, caught it, and then the throw you saw.
Love your passion and emotion.
Thanks again for a beautiful reaction.
Hi Nina for me John’s best performance was in 2003 singing When The War is Over. It is epic and beautiful. I’m sure you will love it. Angels is also up there cheers
Yeh that song makes me cry every time 🥹
Yep great song...and it helps when you have the greatest vocalist of our time singing it.
amazingly this guy was totally ignored internationally. All good, we got to keep one good one at home :):)
Great reaction. You should listen to "long way to the top" and "playing to win" from the same concert, just magic
Cool, thanks!
I saw him sing this live. It was so moving. ❤❤❤
Another great and enlightening reaction thankyou
If you're not emotionally moved by this performance, you're dead inside.
Best to ever do it ❤❤❤❤❤ us Aussies are so proud off Johh boi
I cannot recommend enough that you do John’s performance of When The War Is Over from the Last Tome concert in 2003. I think it may be his best ever vocal performance, at 54. It is simply astounding in its performance delivery and technical prowess.
You can be an Honorary aussie with that reaction to Farnsy.
As an Aussie this is our war cry. A rally cry to be strong and resilient in all situations. Very Scottish, hence the bagpipes
Hi Nina! I was very fortunate to see John in Sydney in umm well decades ago..
Could I suggest you have a quick look at
"John Farnham - Please Don't Ask Me - TV Talk Show Version"
It gives an idea of John the entertainer as well as a live, unwarmed up/ surprise version of a song he hadn't sung for ages :P
It shows how good the skills and teamwork of the aussie entertainment was in those days.
Beautiful reaction and lovely to see a song so moving to you ❤❤❤
Congrats on the imminent 200k subs!
Brilliant John Farnham 🇦🇺🏄♂️🍹 Aussie treasure ☺️👍 Well loved in Australia 💗😝
I was there Nina, magic doesn't cover it , not sure what it superlative above magic there is but the audience chorus was amazing
Great reaction. Amazing song. Amazing vocalist.
Yes being there was magical.
This was my first concert. Spoilt for all time.
Yes John Farnham is one of our aussie boys, the best of the best just like AC/DC, we rock down under here and we dont take any shit from any body.
That crowd looks pretty impressive for a concert. Even more impressive John had 13 sold out concerts at that venue alone!
If you go back to before he throws the mic stand you’ll see he actually throws it into the air and catches it
The Great John Farnham! Great Track! Great Reaction!!!! Thank You so Much ✌
Thank you too!
