When celebs did have “alter egos” people called it “demonic” or “satanist”… so ig that’s one of the biggest reasons why a lot of celebs shy away from using that term
Well no the reason why celebrities don't really use alter ego's any more is that the Illuminati is not really a big marketing point anymore and alot of the Illuminati exposer that use to run UA-cam back on 2010-2013 are no longer on here because UA-cam demonetized the entire genre. Back then it was beneficial to have an R to Ego and go over the top with the symbology like lady Gaga,.Beyonce, Rihanna, and Nicki but once the hype of the Illuminati started to die down that's when you started having artist like beyonce saying "that she created Sasha Fierce because she was scared to be a soul artist but now she's ready to be herself". Lady gaga, Nicki Minaj, others also step away from Alto egos as a whole and doing these crazy symbolic videos because the Illuminati was the hit trend anymore. That's why you had an artist Lil nas x said that Illuminati need go mainstream again during he's rollout but sadly that won't ever happen because the UA-cam exposers won't make any money from their videos and that was the whole point of them doing it in the first place. To make money!
No the celebs entertain shit like that. When someone calls em demonic they act like that so ppl can talk. The thing is that now artists just aren’t creative enough!

I think we can mention Melanie Martinez here and her character Crybaby. The reason why she dressed so child-like back when her 1st album aired was because she was representing Crybaby, but I think some people misunderstood that at the time. It's also why, for her 2nd album, K-12, she looks a tad more mature, while still maintaining that aesthetic. It's because of Crybaby's growth. On another note, I didn't know all these artista had alter egos :o
Crybaby is not an alter ego. Crybaby is a tool used to create and expand stories in order to advance Melanie's art. While Melanie heavily personalizes Crybaby, she has never addressed Crybaby as an alter ego. Either way, Melanie is a genius.
also Melanie had it rough cuz she was falsely accused of SA so people automatically saw her as a perverted predator whenever she had the baby aesthetic
I feel like Crybaby is more of a character than an alter ego for Melanie. So during k-12 Melanie is telling the story of Crybaby maturing as if she was a narrator who got trapped in the body of character who’s life they usually follow. If that makes any sense lol
David Bowie had some of the most iconic alter egos of all time he said that he found it easier to write music as a character than purely for himself.alter egos like Ziggy stardust, the jean Jeanie, the thin white duke or Halloween jack all became incredibly developed characters

My favorite celebrity alter ego is Marina's 'Electra Heart.' I know this partially comes from a strong bias towards Marina, but it is mostly from genuine love for the character. You could always tell the difference between Marina and Electra, mostly due to music and appearance. Electra's music tend to have darker tones, and while playing Electra, Marina always wears a heart on her cheek. Other than that, Electra is one of my comfort characters and helps me a lot.
I’m really glad she’s just Marina now cause “Marina and the diamonds” was the most losery name ever, it was so stupid that I had no interest in them because all the loser, eeyore-sweater wearing weirdos would go see her concerts, it was weird but her fan base was super off until she changed her name

Great video, would love a more of a deep dive on Nicki's alter ego's but I loved how you showed the IMPACT of an alter ego with Beyonce when it came to her performance and confidence. The difference these days with an artist like Meg is that with her alter ego, Tina snow is the same person, just a different color wig and outfit. No change of subject matter or IMPACT.
I love Beyonce's quote on merging Sasha fierce with her own personality. it really shows how she has increased her own confidence and sense of self and i hope that one day I could do the same.
Wait where’s Mariah Carey alter ego known as Bianca? It was ground breaking when she introduced her in the Heartbreaker music video and the remix video in 99.
An alter ego is a different version of the artist. “Bianca” would have had to make and release music that was different than Mariah’s RnB pop style to be considered an alter ego
My mom said that after Beyoncé said she had an alter ego and that she becomes someone else onstage, she stopped listening to her because she thought it was satanic or some type of demonic reference. I think that what these artists mean when they say that is someone comes out who is different from their normal every day selves. However, the way they word it may come off creepy. Another example in addition to Bey would be Michael Jackson who was super shy and reserved in real life but onstage he becomes an absolute beast of energy and talent and Michael also said it before. But my mom ignores when he said it because that’s who she grew up with. I believe she and many older people may have some sort of bias towards women but that’s another story. I truly don’t think these musicians mean anything satanic by it but I have to admit, I can see how older people may see it as eery and strange. Maybe if they just said something along the lines of, “when I get on stage the crowd really boosts my adrenaline and I feel confident. That’s why I perform so well.” But I feel like people will just try and find anything to bash people. Just my take. Stop taking everything so literally peopleee lol.

I always liked Gambino’s alter “The Boy”. During his BTI album, you could never tell who he was; Gambino, Glover, or The Boy? It allowed him to express himself by blurring the lines of all three. He told a story based on his own experiences by immersing himself and his audience into the narrative. He even presented himself as The Boy in interviews.
I think it’ll be really dope to do like a flash back of everything Nicki has accomplished this year and devoted her essence to not only just female rap, but to rap and music culture!
Alter egos definitely seem less common in music nowadays but an artist that still makes great use of them is Tyler The Creator. He created different characters for his last two albums Igor and Tyler Baudelaire for Igor and Call Me If You Get Lost respectively but even before that his persona did change drastically between albums. Even thought he didn't use different names the tone and lyrics of Goblin are very different compared to something like Flower Boy.
i was literally just thinking about artists who used alter egos the other day, specifically about how they used to be so prominent in the music scene and now they aren't anymore. i miss the alter ego era lol.
as someone with dreams to become an artist i really have been struggling with how i can go between genres i feel like i can create songs in and be a complex artist while also building a brand, completely forgetting people had one or more alter egos. this super cool. thanks for sharing!
Suga, one of BTS' members, has this alter ego called Agust D and you can really see how he reaches a different audience because there's so many rap fans that respect him, say he's an amazing artist and compliment his solo albums as Agust D even tho they don't really listen to BTS. Fun fact: 'Agust D' means D Town Suga, cuz he's from Daegu! 😸
something that also fascinated me abt alter egos is a concept is how popular it is, especially in visual artist spaces as well, not just rap circles. the concept of the alter ego leaves a lot to be interpreted, which gives artists plenty of room to be as cool as they want... or as demented. the idea of pouring all your deepest darkest insecurities into an alter ego is like therapy for a lot of artists, and it does show in the art they make. it's so fascinating to me, and i hope the concept comes back into mainstream.
Honestly i think the blow up “realism” pop around like 2013/2014 is what ended alter egos. We saw EVERYONE including Nicki and Katy Perry took their personalities/looks/etc down to fit into the modern times
AGREED. With the growth of social media and the fatigue of eccentric dancepop music after like 2012, people wanted something relatable and chill for a change. That’s where the big indie music boom came in, as well as a shift to more laid back emotional pop music. But after everything that’s happened post-2016 and especially post-2020, now people want an escape from sad down-to-earth music and are tired of artists trying to be relatable (and it backfiring; see the 2020 Celeb Imagine video lol). There’ll definitely be more artists with alter-egos in pertaining to having distinct and memorable musical projects, but I think the days of Ziggy Stardust/ Slim Shady/ Roman Zolanski/ Sasha Fierce are over. There’s definitely nostalgia for the 70’s/90’s/2000’s-early 2010’s now, but there’s still an expectation by people for musicians to still be grounded and approachable (which is why current artists who have alter ego’s or a new look for a new era usually keep it for only for music or videos)
Just speculation here, but Nicki was and is an actress-she studied drama. So I think she truly enjoys the alter egos for the acting part as well, which a lot of other musicians might not be as into possibly. They might think an alter ego will take the attention away from their music. Artists who did/do have alter egos seem less afraid of acting crazy/confident/etc just in general--think Eminem, Beyonce, Lady Gaga. Their personality and out-of-the-box style is part of their art and career so perhaps they were less afraid to put an alter ego out there than other musicians?
@@destinixshakur She had an alter ego named Martha who has a British accent. Martha makes a brief appearance in the beginning of the song Moment for life (feat Drake).
Enjoyed this video! I grew up with all these artist's having alter egos and kids my age trying to come up with one (myself included). Fun times! Nicki's Harajuku Barbie phase was my favorite! I didn't actively listen to her at the time, but my sister did and it got her into Decora fashion. I was always a fan of similar Japanese fashion cultures, what they stood for and girls just having fun, so it was nice Nicki led to me feeling closer to my sister during a time I was strongly rejecting societal expectations Someone else can say it better than me, but something about this relatable stuff growing in popularity, and having the artist embrace all sides of themself without using another name is more relatable and marketable. Also it's easy to digest. The amount of people that think alter egos are downright silly, demonic, or a mental disorder...I feel the more creatively inclined can see the fun and creative opportunities it can bring.
I also feel like the pressure for artist to have a unique sound also contributes tbh like people want artist who are themselves which I understand for example SZA when ctrl came out people saw her as that indie rnb chill relaxed girl but she said in a recent interview she doesn’t want to be seen as that and wants to show a new side to her
I wonder how does it works for artists to create these alter egoes. As in, how they pick not only their names but also each alter ego's personality, as well as all the work they must do to be able to "stay in character" whenever they're being an alter ego.
I feel like that alter ego was always there, like in everyday people but they had the resources to really push that part of themselves. so it's probably not that hard to present the alter ego cuz it's always existed to some extemt yk?
how can you talk about alter egos in music without mentioning david bowie?? ziggy stardust, the thin white duke, all musically and artistically distinct and iconic personas
The beyhive knew about Sasha before 2008. In 08 Beyoncé gave her a last name ‘Fierce’. But even with B’day at her live performance ‘The Beyoncé Experience’ she says: Sasha has left the building and Beyoncé is here to say thank you. Sasha is the most famous alter ego.
I think an example of alter egos is MF DOOM’s Viktor Vaughn. He’s meant to be him but instead of being a villain he’s just some normal ass kid from New York who’s actually an alien or some shit like that. In his Viktor Vaughn album Vaudeville Villain he raps about different shit than what MF DOOM raps about. Literally a different person, an alter ego. Good video still, keep up the grind
An good slightly more recent example would be Logic. He even has different album series for Logic who does albums, then Bobby Tarantino and Young Sinatra who release more mixtape structured projects
I've watched a few of your videos now and I'm always impressed with how thoughtful you are in making your points and explaining tour ideas. Definitely making some top tier stuff! I'm rooting for you 💕
I blame 50% on the Music Industry and 50% on us the consumers. Cuz we are so quick now n days, to judge and compare the newer Artist to the old ones. Not giving them time, because we are impatient. And that we always give the wrong Artists shine & a platform, letting them blow up off mid bs. Now ppl can't sing more than 30 seconds of a song. Cuz our attention spans only last 2 mins tops, which led to most Artists to stop doing Bridges in their songs(which used to be the best part of the song). Now concerts suck cuz ppl are too busy looking to go viral on TikTok and that they record the whole show on their phones, for no reason. So they can't really enjoy themselves anymore either. Atp i'mma hop in the booth lol.
Yesss everything basically sounds the same for the most part. I miss being able to hear a song and recognizing the artist based on their signature style/sound
I think ethel cain needs to be brought up, although in a way ethel is hayden’s entire persona. i think it is really cool for her public persona that she is always portraying her own fictional character from the preachers daughter narrative
BeyHive here lol Sasha fierce was introduced to us in DC days. Kelly called her that during an interview and sometimes on stage. She also talked about Sasha during the B’Day era
I think one person nowadays that deserves mention regarding this topic is YN Jay, if he really developed a separate persona than the whole Coochie Man like he does in some songs I think he'd be taken a lot more seriously as an artist. I've seen some of his old work and it's really different and a lot more lyrical and that spotem gottem freestyle he did in a more serious inflection was sick
Nicki, Beyoncé, Eminem, and David Bowie had some of the best ones, I feel like Chloe Bailey could’ve been way more popular with an alter ego. Her as a person doesn’t fit the character she plays in her songs so an alter ego would’ve been perfect
Mf doom/Metal Fingers/MetalFace/zev love x/ king geedorah/ DOOM/Viktor Vaughn...(R.I.P Sir Dumile). Good breakdown on the subject of Alter Egos. Can be a great creative outlet...could have other questionable implications. The phrase... "alters"..."ego".
But why should she have to be labeled "Carter" tho? Jay not labeled her last name! In South America, kids are named after both parents! North America women names are under valued!
Some of this artist not using their alter ego again simply because they are getting older. Just like us : when we are younger, we easily pretend we are super heroes, wearing cosplay. Talk like emo guy etc. But when we are getting older, act like brat or dude is not fun anymore.
Bowie is the king of altar egos. Also, I don't know if Michael Jackson counts? I know he had a different visual aesthetic for each album but those could just be "looks" and not personal specifically. I guess for it to be a persona you have to name it?

the idea of pouring all your deepest darkest insecurities into an alter ego is like therapy for a lot of artists, and it does show in the art they make. it's so fascinating to me, and i hope the concept comes back into mainstream.
Out of alllll the Nicki alter egos and you didn’t choose Roman nor Martha 😭😭😭😭
I talked about it in my Roman video lol
Martha?
@@destinixshakur She had an alter ego named Martha who has a British accent. Martha makes a brief appearance in the beginning of the song Moment for life (feat Drake).
@@destinixshakur Roman's mother
@@nothandomlambo4216 at the end of Roman's revenge too
Enjoyed this video! I grew up with all these artist's having alter egos and kids my age trying to come up with one (myself included). Fun times!
Nicki's Harajuku Barbie phase was my favorite! I didn't actively listen to her at the time, but my sister did and it got her into Decora fashion. I was always a fan of similar Japanese fashion cultures, what they stood for and girls just having fun, so it was nice Nicki led to me feeling closer to my sister during a time I was strongly rejecting societal expectations
Someone else can say it better than me, but something about this relatable stuff growing in popularity, and having the artist embrace all sides of themself without using another name is more relatable and marketable. Also it's easy to digest. The amount of people that think alter egos are downright silly, demonic, or a mental disorder...I feel the more creatively inclined can see the fun and creative opportunities it can bring.
I also feel like the pressure for artist to have a unique sound also contributes tbh like people want artist who are themselves which I understand for example SZA when ctrl came out people saw her as that indie rnb chill relaxed girl but she said in a recent interview she doesn’t want to be seen as that and wants to show a new side to her
if a normal person has an alter ego they are called crazy but i guess it's okay for celebs
We all have an alter ego one way or another. How you act around your co workers may be way different from how you act around your friends and family.
celebs just have eras now
Great video! I think Sasha Fierce was the alter ego I was most familiar with.
There's something to be said about the mind of someone who can orchestrate and balance an alter ego successfully, a very complex endeavor
This was such a cool concept, loved this video🎉
I wonder how does it works for artists to create these alter egoes.
As in, how they pick not only their names but also each alter ego's personality, as well as all the work they must do to be able to "stay in character" whenever they're being an alter ego.
I feel like that alter ego was always there, like in everyday people but they had the resources to really push that part of themselves. so it's probably not that hard to present the alter ego cuz it's always existed to some extemt yk?
how can you talk about alter egos in music without mentioning david bowie?? ziggy stardust, the thin white duke, all musically and artistically distinct and iconic personas
I knowwww - he is alter egos
Very true!
then make your own video
I loved Madonna's MADAME X alter ego - its also such a good album
What about Lady Gaga's alter egos Jo Calderone and Yüri the Mermaid?
This is a great video!!!! I miss the late 90s early 2000s 😞 such great music times for me
Queen 👑 of RAP 🎤✍️ Nicki Minaj is my favorite. I wish you would've talk longer about Queen 👑 Nicki like you did on the other two.
queen of rap she's not even close to Lauren Hill left eye or missy
@@signin5125 Thank you for your opinion. Continue to be Blessed Abundantly. I'll tell Queen 👑 of RAP 🎤📝 Nicki Minaj that you said hi .
Great video!!!! We should all have an alter ego that boosts our confidence!
you'd want the devil in you?
Girl you need to make your videos longer they’re so good! Lol
don’t panic y’all i’m keeping alter egos alive.. 2023 my year 🎊
kiLL edward is such an underrated alter ego- and I get why given there’s so little material about him out there- but I see so much potential.
Amazing content !!
You earned a sub and I hope you keep growing exponentially!! You deserve it
Reminds me of systems
As someone named Roman, Nicki has slandered my name for far too long
Would Rihannas be bad girl Riri? 😭😂
Probably
Yeah but she is good at merging the two now as she is older
Yes and with the shaved sides and short hair
An good slightly more recent example would be Logic. He even has different album series for Logic who does albums, then Bobby Tarantino and Young Sinatra who release more mixtape structured projects
I love this video you did amazing
I've watched a few of your videos now and I'm always impressed with how thoughtful you are in making your points and explaining tour ideas. Definitely making some top tier stuff! I'm rooting for you 💕
Thank you 🫶🏽
Todays artist have let the alter egos take control 24/7 they never turn it off or down
Really disappointed there was no MF DOOM mention, hes the most classic example of alter egos
Fr
Shit the lost art for everything lol. Artists are so boring now.
@@GODESE I miss bridges. But yea you’re right. The lane is just flooded. Everybody and they mama wanna get into music and suck at it.
I’m not . I’m just not discovered yet
@@GODESE I agree
Yesss everything basically sounds the same for the most part. I miss being able to hear a song and recognizing the artist based on their signature style/sound
I think ethel cain needs to be brought up, although in a way ethel is hayden’s entire persona. i think it is really cool for her public persona that she is always portraying her own fictional character from the preachers daughter narrative
Before Tyler really went mainstream with Flower Boy, his music heavily focused on a few of his own alter egos, most notably Wolf Haley.
Uk rapper giggs and his hollow man persona
Tyra was Sasha Fierce for Snatch Game. Truly an iconic alter ego
YN Jay is the more serious side. Coochie Man is the goofy one, yelling and shit 😂😂😂
Theres one man who slips into an alter ego everytime he drops an album. Look up a man named Abel Tesfaye. Your welcome.
That's a real name
lady gaga's alter egos are wild
where is bowie's ziggy stardust ? he is the blueprint
LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos
This was a great video! Thanks
thank you, i know how to implicate them in music now
MF DOOM's Viktor Vaughn gave a good album
great video look forward 2 more !!!! ❤❤
Roman, Martha, Rosa, Nicki The Boss, Nicki Lewinsky , Barbie. Female Weezy The list goes on 🔥🔥🔥
Queen sleeze
Nicki the ninja
Bianca Storm cracks me up how much she hates Mariah😂
David Bowie - king of alter egos
Hes the king because he let the children boogie
This was a dope video
Christina Aguilera had XTINA created in 2002 for her album "Stripped" where she changed her sound and had a more agressive persona. Queen ❤️🙏
And with Bionic, she became Xtina 2.0
She's a clown Britney is way better than her
But what about Tina Snow? Her fans still antipicate her return when she uses her lol
I was coming to say this
I mentioned her in the video , I will be making more parts to
Tinashe has her Nashe alter ego
its such a tragedy that lady gaga was completely missed while she's the one who had the most alter-
I’m releasing part 2 soon you guys are eating me up 😂😂
Omg cant wait!
The Tyler wasn’t in this makes me sad 😢
suuuuuuper well said!
"alters"..."ego".
why isnt anyone talking about tyler & his alter egos
Its crazy that someone makes a video about alter egos and doesnt mention MF DOOM
THE MF SUPERVILLAIN GAHH DAMMIT
This was a great idea for a video btw
But why should she have to be labeled "Carter" tho? Jay not labeled her last name! In South America, kids are named after both parents! North America women names are under valued!
Ynw melly is like the only guy from the younger generation who acc has interesting alter egos. 😂
Enjoyed this video!!! 🥰
Tyler, The Creator is famous for his egos, one of the best demonstrations.
This reminds me of the Raccoon animal spirit card. King Von altar ego Grandson was the sweetheart lol
Nas personas of nasty nas and nas escobar
yes Speak!
Cool Video 👍
Some of this artist not using their alter ego again simply because they are getting older. Just like us : when we are younger, we easily pretend we are super heroes, wearing cosplay. Talk like emo guy etc. But when we are getting older, act like brat or dude is not fun anymore.
Love this
Loved this video
Lisa Left Eye Lopes had Niki and Nina
Bowie is the king of altar egos. Also, I don't know if Michael Jackson counts? I know he had a different visual aesthetic for each album but those could just be "looks" and not personal specifically. I guess for it to be a persona you have to name it?
i feel like prince is a close second choice, he had so many
my fav artist alter ego is def The Weeknds and Melanie Martinez's (Crybaby)
Where’s Kanye with Yeezus
