  • 1940 Lister CS 12/2 running here at 300 -350rpm, this engine has undergone a full mechanical restoration.
These engines are still in use in many parts of the world such as India, a true testament to their design and durability.
Inspection plate was removed while running to ensure that the big end and cylinder walls were still lubricated at slower speeds, after extensive testing it is clear anything over 150rpm and the cylinder and big end get plenty of oil. I have ran this engine and another CS at such speeds for over 24hrs with no issues.

@@anthacdchave you ran it for extended periods of time at 350 rpm -
I live in the deep South in a rural area - mine is on a generator it runs at 500 RPMs - that delivers around 12O0 watts - the house lighting load is on a charger/ battery/inverter - it's to get rid of the lights flickering when running at lower than 650 RPMs it's a single cylinder engine -
I've run mine for 9 months at times -
My guess is if you run it at 350 for lengths of time your going to have to run it at 230° so it does not build up carbon - you will need heavy water for coolant

@@able880 as mine is only a display engine you’ll notice the tiny cooling tank, given it’s small size the engine still runs nice and hot at slow rpm’s. No problems with carbon build up on any of my CS engines over the last few years. Cheers.

That is the smallest fuel tank I've ever seen on a Lister! Nicely done restoration though.

They don’t consume that much fuel at low rpm, it will run for 5 hours on that tank.

Looks very nice. Weren't they made to run at about 650 RPM?

Thanks Kevin, They are rated for 12hp at 650rpm, but sound much nicer when running slower.

Thanks mate, the cylinders are dialled in within a couple of degrees of each other based on exhaust temp, might just be the camera mic making it sound like that.

Your fuel pumps needs balancing to run better ,

Thanks for your comment, she is perfectly balanced with the exhausts within 1 degree within each other, it may sound off because it’s running so slow. Cheers

Loong stroke and heeavy flywheels. Power-to-weight extremely bad. Durability... for ever.
