Wet feet was a small price to pay for this great video. Even if you never find what you set out for your videos are still magical. A big thank you to you and your wife for a fabulous year of entertainment and wonder. Merry Christmas and Happy New year ❤

Thank you Liam another great video. Good things come to those who wait eh? The underwater footage was lovely, really clear water for a change! Anyway, wishing you a prosperous and wildlife filled 2024.
Thank you so much. I am glad the underwater shots turned out as they did, it can be a bit hit or miss with them as even when the water looks clear from above, just a little bit of floating sediment can ruin everything. Happy 2024 to you too!
Glad you found the Goosander and hope you get to catch up with a male too as they are a bit special. I see them quite often as I`m in the North-west and also when I visit Scotland. Thanks for posting the regular content I always look forward to and fingers crossed tomorrow will find you unwrapping new wellies from under the tree!
Thank you. I did indeed get some new wellies so will be having dry feet for the time being at least. Apparently a male has been seen locally so theres a chance I will go looking for him this weekend, keep your fingers crossed for me.
Goosanders are quite confiding. I saw them two years running on the River Hull, near Beverley. It's a fairly narrow river and they didn't fly away but just drifted to the opposite bank and watched me pass. Two females and four males. Good videos you make.
Thank you for watching them. I have heard there is a male near me at the moment so I am going to go looking for him some time soon, keep your fingers crossed for me.
Thank you for that footage and taking you time out to do it. Fantastic. As far as wellies are concerned having had horses dogs etc in all weathers try Dunlop's if they leak you can send them right back lol

Nice work - loved the fish video. it's always good to catch whatever the target species was. I've had decent luck with goosanders but dismal out of focus pictures of the smaller merganser chasing brown trout Merry christmas and a happy new year

Another lovely video, Liam - thanks for all your videos throughout the year. Are there any mergansers in your part of the world? I hope Santa has some nice wellies on his sleigh for you!
Thank you for watching them. What we call a gooseander here in the UK, is known as a common Merganser in the US so yes. I believe there is a second species here too, called a red breasted merganser, but I have yet to see one of those either.
@@AShotOfWildlife Yes, in the UK there are red-breasted mergansers (Mergus serrator) and goosanders (Mergus merganser). You can regularly see the mergansers on the river Kent in Kendal, even in the town centre, if you're ever up that way. Looking forward to more great videos from you in 2024!

Crazy that you had never seen a goosander with how varied the waterfowl you get in your neck of the woods are! Round my ends in the east midlands its almost harder NOT to see one in the winter
A lot of the waterways over this side of the country are shallow and murky, which I dont think they like too much compared to the deeper clearer waters elsewhere. But apparently a male has been seen around here recently, so I am hoping to get out and see him soon! Fingers crossed.

Cool video Liam… I always assumed the Goosander was a North American bird where they have an eery wild call, so thanks for enlightening me ☺️ nice to see them young roach avoiding the predatory birds. I guess those birds would feel vulnerable themselves in those ditches hence that’s why it’s safer for the roach I guess. PS. Hope you have a puncture outfit for those wellies !🤣 Happy Christmas 🎄🎅
Cheers mate. I got a new pair of wellies thankfully. Yes, I think thats the reason its safer for the fish there, from diving birds at least as they often take a large area to take off and wouldnt be able to do so from the ditch very easily. I hope you had a good xmas!

I havent, but hopefully this year I am going to get around much more of the country looking for wildlife so if im in the area, I'll stop by. Thanks for the tip off.
All very beautiful, I've never seen a Goosander, I live way down the south coast but I regularly see herring gulls! I love them all. Hope Santa delivers new wellies for you 😊. Thanks for your work, always a pleasure to watch.
Great video. My local lakes are just a 5 minute walk from home, so I visit often to see the wildlife. Like you, I've only recently seen a goosander, though they're listed on the various info boards dotted around. Just about all the others you saw are regular visitors here, except the linnet, which I've never knowingly seen. Cheers and have a great New Year.
Thank you, happy new year to you too. There has been a male seen at this lake this week so I might be back there soon to look for it, they are much more colourful than females so hopefully I will catch a glimpse.
Hi Liam, thanks for this great vlog. What a beautiful place. Did well, especially the roach, linnets and the elusive goosander! Cream or icing on cakes works for me! Happy Xmas and thanks for all your vlogs this year! Hope you get new wellies! 🎄 😊 👍.
Thank you! I have some new wellies so my feet will hopefully be dry for the foreseeable future :) Thanks for watching and hopefully 2024 will be just as good.
How brilliant. I am glad you made the trip and got to see it. There has been a male seen there this week too, so if you are in the area it might be worth taking another look... I definitely will be. The males are very pretty!
@@AShotOfWildlife no way that’s amazing, I’m only down the road from there, I’m heading to the uea today to try and spot the waxwings as I’ve heard there are there at the moment
@@gracedyke3796 Good luck with the Waxwings, I believe they have been seen in some trees at the entrance to the Research park this morning (I got lucky and saw them at Bowthorpe Southern park on sunday - a video about that walk is on its way). There are lots of Shoveller at Whitlingham at the moment too.
@@AShotOfWildlife oh well that's handy, that's my new year's project as well! I've just got a book, Gulls of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, by Peter Adriaens, Mars Muuse, and two others (I bought it on the kindle app so I always have it with me), and it's excellent, first rate, would highly recommend it!
I'm rather amazed that you've never seen a goosander before. Whenever me and my wife walk along the Calder (in West Yorkshire) we always seem to see a pair, especially around the Cromwell Bottom nature reserve near Brighouse.
I think it is down to where I am based in the country. There have been a few about this winter though so I will probably see more before the spring arrives. This year I plan on getting out and about around more of the country so hopefully I will encounter lots of new wildlife as well. Cheers
@@AShotOfWildlife Good to hear that. I can highly recommend Wensleydale and Swaledale for birds - grouse, lapwings, and curlews on the moors around that area, shoveller ducks on both rivers, a large sand martin colony near Reeth, a flycatcher family just above us in a hedge, and I've never failed to spot kingfishers from the bridge at Grinton. Nothing very exotic or rare, but plenty of opportunities to get close to them and without a lot of "leg work". My wife even photographed a couple of grouse just a few feet from the car !

I feel your pain with the wellies, same thing happened to me recently.
Haha, I hope you got some new ones. Mine did arrive on xmas so my feet will be dry for the foreseeable future... hopefully!
Have you been to wigan flashes in greater manchester I see goosander quite a lot. There are many other wader birds
I havent, but hopefully this year I am going to get around much more of the country looking for wildlife so if im in the area, I'll stop by. Thanks for the tip off.
I saw around 4 or 5 recently at whelford pools nature reserve. Great place various water birds.
Thanks for the tip, if I m ever in the area I will try to visit. Cheers
Another great video.
Thank you!
Great that you got a view of the goosesander well done have a great Christmas and new year ❤
Thank you, I hope you had a good'un! I have heard that there is a Male about at the moment so I am hoping to see that as well soon.
All very beautiful, I've never seen a Goosander, I live way down the south coast but I regularly see herring gulls! I love them all. Hope Santa delivers new wellies for you 😊. Thanks for your work, always a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much. I did get new wellies so will hopefully have dry feet for the next few months at least!
Happy 2024!
Whoah Whitlingham, wonderful place! Such a beautiful and peaceful video, thank you for making this. Hope you open some wellies tomorrow
Thank you, I love a walk around whitlingham and apparently there are 3 goosanders there now, so I might have to go again! New Wellies have arrived :)
Fabulous. A real Christmas treat. I look forward to watching your videos and this one does not disappoint.
Thank you!
Omg I came here after seeing this vid yesterday and I saw it straight away and so close up 😂 also saw a ring neck parakeet
@@AShotOfWildlife I found them!!! Went where you said and they were there, I’ve never seen them before! amazing thank you
Brilliant, I am glad to hear you found them! @@gracedyke3796
Merry Christmas mate! Thank you for a year of wonderful content! As for your gull I think you're absolutely correct, first winter Herring gull.
Perfect! This year I am going to spend a bit more time learning gulls, so its a good place to start. Cheers
@@jonroads8281 thanks for the tip off, I will take a look at that book. Cheers!
Thank you@@Kevin-mx1vi I will definitely try to get up there this year and will let you know how I get on. Cheers!
really love these videos. Thanks for taking time to make them
Thank you, thanks for taking the time to watch them and leave a comment!
