ReBoard - an interval based Midi Player

- ReBoard - is a Max for Live Device based on the very simple Idea to play relative notes within a given scale. The name ReBoard is derived from Relative Keyboard.
www.soundmanufacture.net/devi...
The idea behind playing relative notes is, that one key will play a certain note in a scale up or down based on the interval.
That means, if you have a Key that plays always the next note in a scale up, like C, D, E, F etc ...
and another Key which plays always two notes down, like C, A, F, D etc ...
You can play alone with these two Keys the whole scale, also repeating melodies are possible to play, it's a bit of a controlled randomness.
Inside the ReBoard Max for Live Device you can choose a scale from a collection and you can map any Key from your Keyboard to an interval or also to a fixed note, like the Root Note or the 1st, 2nd ... etc. Note within the selected scale.
simply genius!
So, yes ... the credits are going to Leon Gruenbaum who has invented this www.leongruenbaum.com
Nice work - I'm a new customer. One question - on Misha the 0 key replays whatever the last note was, ie a zero interval. But there's also a HOME function that returns misha back to the Root note of the scale. How does one do that in ReBoard?
@wolfereeno so, the home function is also integrated into ReBoard. If you go to the extra functions, you can set the note to fix and select "start note" or also any other interval inside a scale and you can always go back to this note. Yes it's a bit hidden, but this will be reworked inside the new reincarnation.
Love this. Was browsing the documentation a bit. Any possibility this can work with microtonal scales? or that the custom scales can be something other than MIDI notes?
or, if I may ask, is this max4live device hackable? would it be practical to open the max editor and add on new/altered functionality?
Many thanks Brandon, so at the moment indeed not, MPE is integrated, but to integrate microtonal scales I think this ends up with a complete rewrite of the Device ... so this will take time and actually it's not on the top of the priority List ...
@@Soundmanufacture gotcha. regardless, a very cool device. thanks for the thoughts
Here's a feature request! On Misha there's a bypass mode via footswitch. It's useful but kind of incomplete. What would improve it would be a partial bypass mode that provides a way to play a given interval but not increment the root note. This would make it possible to repeat notes and arpeggiate chords. Could you implement this kind of thing via a CC? (I've made the request to Eventide & Leon but I don't think it will get done). Thx!!
many thanks, of course good ideas. I think I will rework everything in this devices and you'll see these things, should be possible everything. But it will take a while.
@@Soundmanufacture Thx!! Looking forward to it. I'm a Misha fan and Leon is a friend. But a lot of what I want to do is easier in Live than in Modular. Glad I found your device. I love that you can split the key range btw. Being able to disable incrementing of the root note via CC would make it possible to easily play chords or arpeggios that worked in the given key or scale. For example pressing 0,3,5 with a pedal down would play a chord. Lift the pedal, press 1, and then you could play a new chord one interval up...and so on.
@@wolfereeno thanks! Send greets to Leon and please get in touch over here:

Hi, cool stuff! - what happens by pressing an Accord? - Ist ist polyphon? cheers
yes it's also polyphon, probably with a bit of randomness
looks better for Ableton than the boutique guys.
It’s similar to the new eventide Eurorack sequencer 😮
Yes, both is based on the samchillian, but Eventide Misha is a way more advanced indeed ...
Can you create an save your own scales?
this will come in the future ...
sounds a bit jazzy which is worrying but the concept is really clever and I’m assuming it works with Push?
About "sounds jazzy" ... depending of what you're playing ... and no, there's no Push Integration at the moment
Link?

This is very similar to a pre-existing vst plug in called instascale
... which is also based on the Samchillian, this was invented by Leon Gruenbaum ...
It's a nice device, but it's too expensive considering what already exists, IMHO.
ok ... any source for something similar for less? Curious?
@@Soundmanufacture Fabrizio Poce ? Vst's like Instachords, Frozen Plain Obelisk
@@tobytodelafontena except instachord I don't see an any other Device/Plugin which is similar ... Frozen Plain Obelisk is in the same price range, but something totally different ... your free to pick these ...
@@Soundmanufacture I already own them :)
