I respect chef Alvin for the fact that he still eats the food no matter how horrible it may seem. Not like the bald guy who throws food at the garbage bin without even tasting it.
that’s joe. joe is a discount jeff bezos who comes on these cooking shows despite the fact that he’s not a chef, therefore he can’t offer any positive criticisms. notice how he goes to personal insults every time he gets the chance? that’s cause he has nothing else to fall back on. one instance that comes to mind is when he said he would have the blind contestant check coats instead of cook. she went on to WIN MASTERCHEF that season. he’s an insecure prick.

Alvin Leung sees a lot of himself in Eric Chong. That’s why he kept his eye on him 100% of the time, he knew the potential he had, so he tried to be as encouraging yet psychological as possible to keep him going and to harden him as a literal master chef. I’m so happy that Leung and Chong are now partners in the business.

He helped him win. It was rigged. There were several chances he could have gotten eliminated but Alvin was in the back room strong arming the two other guys.
Lol what a nice joke
The chemistry between Eric and Alvin truly shows how humble and genuine Alvin is actually.
I also like Gordon, but brother, Alvin has a better way of dealing with his team.
0:14 eric struck the cord with Alvin the moment he said 'you're living my dream'. The way Alvin looks taken back by Eric's pure admiration,he unknowingly adopted Eric that day.
*spoilers*
I think that was 1 of the moments that convinced Chef Alvin to open a restaurant with Eric after he won.
Or or or or he was probably snaking his head to indicate him saying “ you’re damn right I am” 😂, but fr I really like this answer

Strict and brutally honest, but fair. Probably my favorite of the three judges on masterchef Canada. I think people tend to mistake brutally honest as being rude. Chef Alvin definitely shows the difference. He's tough when he needs to be but his criticism is constructive, and he knows when to crack jokes and keep morale high. Not strike people down and kill their motivation.
Him and Eric really had a great connection. I think they're on par with David with the most inspiring season/story yet, it's almost unreal. Really great motivational stuff!

For me he's asian ramsay. Strict but he do care and want them to improve with contructive critisms, can't say the same thing with that baldy US masterchef judge Joe Basandwich
@@Limbbiscuit To be honest I don't actually remember him yelling that much to even garner the title the "Demon Chef". Even when he was in the kitchen.
@@communismwithgiggles2515 I actually think his title "demon chef" comes from his extremely experimental branch of food that originally made him famous, you can search up his famous "used condom" dish

Alvin: Do you know who I am?

I prefer Alvin so much more than Joe. Joe is just rude, Alvin’s criticisms are all legit.
That’s because Alvin is actually a chef, so he knows what he’s talking about. Joe owns restaurants, but he’s not a chef so he can’t offer any advice for how to fix a dish so he just insults the person
Joe peaked in life being a 3rd grade hall monitor.
@@Licjr and the fact that chef Alvin never had a professional training(CMIIW) and he's also one of the only 2 SELF-TAUGHT Michelin star chef are enough to make him a great mentor. He knows how it feels like to not have a professional training like the contestants in MasterChef.

Alvin is definitely the Gordon of the trio. He gives great criticism and feedback. He’s passionate about every chef’s success in the kitchen. You can tell he cares and he’s not overly insulting like Joe. He knows how to effectively get his point across. He’s most definitely my favorite judge along side Chef Gordon
Most accomplished too among his fellow judges
I love how Alvin asks "where's the parmesan cheese" then walks back with arms folded, displeased, leaving Eric speechless with no excuse lol
Take notice of how even though there are plenty of dishes where Alvin criticizes the food, he'll always eat it. There are a couple of times where he even expressly likes the taste of it, and even when he doesn't, he's always got actual critique for the chefs, even when he loses it, he and the other judges never go overboard and they're always fair.
That's because Alvin is an actual chef, someone who understands the position these people are in, and he understands they aren't professionals, and that he's gonna be the guy to help them move forward.
Unlike a rude, unqualified tryant who isn't even a chef, and just happens to own a few restaurants and has chefs in his family. A guy who will throw plates away just by looking at them, and result to personal insults because he doesn't know the first thing about food.

He's not like gordon in hell's kitchen, and he's not like joe in masterchef, he's just right. Honest and he teaches the home cooks to be better.
Well the people in hells kitchen are trained chef so they are expected to meet a certain standard.
I mean, people say that MPW is much nicer in his guest appearances on masterchef too and for good reason, so is Gordon Ramsey. It's because of the fact they're not actual chefs, they're not people with years of experience professionaly. Sadly, Joe didn't get that memo...
I mean, imagine Alvin as the one running hell's kitchen, he'd chew them out without second thought, just like GR and MPW, but this is masterchef, not hell's kitchen.

I'm not an expert on this show. However, based on the clips, I feel that Alvin was hard on Eric because he's been where Eric is right now, and he knows that being nice to him is not going to make Eric work as hard as he can. He gives Eric praises where he deserves it of course, but Alvin makes sure that Eric doesn't get too comfortable because when you get too comfortable, your work ethic goes down. Alvin knows this and the last thing he wants is for Eric, a younger vision of himself, to become lazy in his work because Alvin gave him the credit.
The other two chefs are so humble and then there he is, just making the show more and more exciting and fun. He is a great judge, all of them are great.
27:56 - "And u can work there too!" looool

Alvin Leung: "This is what you did wrong and I hope you can show me better in the future, I taste potential."
Gordan Ramsay: "IDIOT SANDWICHHHHH!"
That's Joe bastardniche. Gordon is pretty great, serious and constructive in MCUSA
The idiot sandwich is a comedic bit.
I really have respect to someone who has the patience to atleast taste the food before they judge them.
That's why I like this man.
I am not a restaurant person but i really love to cook and learn from others so he gave us the perfect example.

"You just copy our pasta, so we'll just copy your handbags." I'm glad Joe found that as funny as I did, that was one of the most savage things I've ever heard.
Alvin is a scary chef no doubt about it, I can see why he's called the 'Demon Chef' but in my opinion... he's not on the same level of scary as Ramsey or Pierre White, 100%.
Pierre takes the cake cos he's the worst. I'd read that he was Gordon's teacher thus the reason the latter poses similar persona.
He gave himself the nickname apparently. Loses some substance when you find that out

I love how any time Joe Bastaniach is on stage talking about ingredients, he talks about all the things you can make, while everyone up there with him already knows that. After he does his speel, he just repeats what the other chefs say. Unlike him however, they can actually make it themselves and don't need to hire someone else to make them look good by putting their name on the door.

He is actually my favourite judge, he seems to be the most authentic one, he's funny, and eccentric, but in a lovable way
It's amazing how he yells but never curse. He also has the best criticisms from all MC judges.
I have noticed that he actually tastes everything. The other judges will sometimes just say "It's so bad I'm not even going to try it"
I laughed out loud when he said," The only thing tropical is, it's looks like a Typhoon hit it." 😂
He's a pretty decent critique. I'd love to be mentored by him
For me it's a three-way tie between "You copied our pasta, so we copied your handbags", getting the school kids in Season 6 to chant "Alvin, Alvin" and speaking to Eric's grandfather when Eric said "he doesn't like leaving the house, cause he only knows Chinese"
"This is MasterChef Canada.. AND YOU GIVE ME THIS?!" I just love that calm atmosphere until he shouted and the atmosphere just went null
Chef Alvin is absolutely amazing. Hard and brutal but honest with his critiques. He’s the one person who you want to tell you that your food is amazing because he can absolutely back it up
He seems strict where it counts, brings across his point perfectly and gives constructive criticism at the end. If every juror chef would that honest, this would be a hell of a fight cause the cooking ones would be improve themselfs more and more.
