My two cents: There's a lot about this remix/remaster to like. For one, the rhythm guitars sound boosted and thick. Especially awesome, though, is how I can now hear Arya's bass(!); not only is it audible during Lombardo's famous drum fill at the end, but also throughout the rest song as well. Better yet, Lombardo's entire kit is punchier and clearer than ever. Honestly it sounds like pure god-damn thunder (double that with the guitars and bass all plugging away in unison). However, there is, from time to time, something I never noticed in the original: the hi-hat. Here, it will pop up in the left ear during certain violent moments, including during the chorus (2:15). Because it sounds so clear, it distracts from the rest of the song. I noticed it immediately and oddly enough, it takes away from the power of what should be total bedlam. I want to head-bang but frankly it sounds like a bee buzzing in my ear. I don't want to discount from what is clearly a solid remaster in all other respects, and normally the clarity you provide is nothing but a positive. Here, however, it's a bit of a detriment, all things considered. That being said, you've released a ton of material lately and all of it is fabulous. I look forward to future Slayer tracks from you!
After listening to heavier live versions of Angel of Death, the actual album version sounded thin and slow. This remixed and remastered version injects some "oomph" into the song.
2:33 Did you hear that? There's some awful dissonance and tension right there. That's all thanks to Tom Araya's bass guitar. While the guitars play G and then F#, the bass played G# and then G. It was probably a mistake by Araya, because it's something that never happens again, but it certainly worked for that moment to keep the song as evil as it is. The last note of the entire song is even better, and this was probably intentional: while the guitars play a D#, the bass plays F#, to end it pretty dreadfully IMO. It's these little details that make me wonder why would anyone mix the album so badly so as to totally bury the bass guitar.
Good old augmented seconds always make something sound nice and gross (not sure, but I think it's technically E flat and F double sharp). I love the ending, but the first example you talk about very well could be a mistake.
@@thepurplewalrus4200 It is a mistake. I'd correct it if I had to remix the song/enhance the bass. One way would be to copy the same part of a different point and paste it over the dud, another way would be to pitch shift the dud part. I've tried it before and it sounds off vs. a simple copy paste job. The key there would be to make a sample for sample perfect edit so the end result is an exact length bass track to the original. No further edits required. And...nobody's the wiser.
Didn't notice that. Definitely a mistake. I like finding stuff like that. When I recorded for my last band I would sometimes make tiny mistakes but they would be left in because it sounded cool usually.
Honestly, I thought this album never needed a "better" production. But this... this is something else, crazy shit!!! BTW Thanks for the Metallica vids, amazing job!
my 1.5 cents........awesome over all. Solo's could have stood out a bit more; u took away dave's legendary spotlight during the double bass solo. I love ur work! subscribed!!!
I know it's not much your genre, but I'd be cool if you remixed and remaster some songs from System of a Down. There're some songs whose separate tracks are online.
I'm totally and utterly in love with the sax solo at 0:23.
:D
I think it’s a kick in the balls. Or stepping on Lego. Not sure
He did it. The legend finally did it.
4:29 I never noticed that Tom was even playing along here
Same
It was Kerry.
It got cut out for the track on the actual album I think

1:53 sinister as fuck with that extra bass
The power of the bass when it keeps itself at root note!
Would be cool if he played the arpeggio as well
0:23 when your toenail gets ripped off
Ive done that and made a similar noise, so I can confirm lol
When does that even happen
I don’t wanna think about that
Can confirm
Solid improvement, the original definitely sounded a little thin and tinny. Good job!
Took away that double bass. I loved that about the original. Thumps much harder.
1:42 that evil and merciless riff!!
2:11 my favorite Slayer riff
Yes bro ❤️

I love hearing all frequencies so it doesn't bother me
It just sounds like that in the drum stem. Without full multitracks, not much he can do about it.
Fun fact: when I play, my hi hat sounds in my left ear just like this...

Can he do the same for world painted blood

Severus Rose fuck yes, the whole album!!
Holy shit. I never thought this song could sound more badass but this completely blew my mind. That bass shred 😮

Cliff Burton did something exactly the same on Master of Puppets.
3:22 so glad you fixed this part
Fucking SLAYYYEEEERRRR
Oh wow. Never noticed there was bass guitar into the bass drum solo part.
What a improvement in the bass sound, is way more audible
Bass guitar is but the double bass drums is quieter
Remaster hell awaits!
1:42 I love this riff it never fails to get stuck in my head.
SLAYER WHERE YOU CAN HEAR T O M S P A R T
This remix actually gave me goosebumps \m/
This is some legendary music
Damn that audible bass
Perfect balance of all instrumentation, bass is great esp at the end very effective, sounds heavier. Still like orig mix DIY punk ethic.
I just realized how much the thing on the bottom right of the cover looks a lot like Joseph Gordon Lovett
the fellow in the middle of the bottom three (wearing the Pope's "hat") looks like Prince Charles.
That's a picture I can't unsee from the album cover now
Oh shit bro this sounds phat. I like that vocal swell before the first verse
How about Exodus - A Lesson In Violence. You dare? I know you do.
The Toxic Waltz first tbh
Hows about just everything by Exodus? Not really keen on how anything of theirs sounds.
If you donate him on Patreon, yes.
@@eowa just listen Let There Be Blood

Are you ever gonna do something by Motörhead?
Man you do a great job with all of those songs you're remastering. Companies should hire you to do their work

I know it's not much your genre, but I'd be cool if you remixed and remaster some songs from System of a Down. There're some songs whose separate tracks are online.
I'd love to see you do albums with worse production. Pleasure to Kill, Scream Bloody Gore, Peace Sells, etc. would be awesome
