You did pretty good there with Carolina Soul all things considered. One thing I have learned is there are no deals, none. Too many eyeballs and thus why I've blocked their emails. (not really, but mentally I have)
Hey Jon. Less sad bastard music, more records like this please! The Brother & Sisters album is excellent. It’s amazing how well Dylan’s songs translate to a gospel sound. I haven’t played it in years so gonna spin that one today. The Merry Clayton album is another treat. Her Gimme Shelter album usually gets all the attention, but that one is just as good. Her version of Grandma’s Hands is a highlight. With regards to the Impressions, those early 70’s records that they put out after Curtis left are really good. If you see them for a good price, pick ‘em up! Cheers

Not every auction is insane, but overall people are paying way more for records than they should be paying. And it’s been driving the market up for several years now. A lot of times it’s not fun. Luckily, I have enough records already. Lol Cheers! ✌🏻

That PP Arnold video from French TV is amazing, her performance virtually sets fire to the stage but the audience look on with complète indifférence, arms folded.
I know, right?! That audience! I actually found it incredibly creepy. It almost feels like a bad dream that she’s having. I can only imagine how difficult it was to put on a happy face for that performance. She did have a real magnetism, though.
That Arnold story was great, not aware of her until you told it. I've always thought there were too many clueless bidders on ebay so I've never even tried to buy records on there. And of course, Mazzy sucks.

Heat of the moment has always been an element. The thing is, a lot of times on Carolina Soul, prices get out of hand days before the auction is over. No spontaneity required.

Auctions tend to be unpredictable-and volatile, intense, heartbreaking, risky, etc. And, yes, due to auction-fever or whatnot, some records will cost more (sometimes much more) than similar copies for sale elsewhere. But many stunning bargains still happen in auctions & many valuable records will go for BELOW market value on auctions-including at Carolina Soul. To ignore this reality gives an incomplete picture.
Am I ignoring that reality? I stated the price on all three auctions that I won, and all were well under median value on Discogs. So I showed deals. I think auctions on Carolina Soul have become way out of line. It’s not Carolina Soul’s fault. It’s not eBay’s fault. It’s collectors’ fault. And I’m sorry, but people are out there paying absurd prices for records on auctions. A lot of times just to buy them from the specific source. So where is the incomplete picture here?

Such precision certainly doesn't matter to everybody but I think it matters to some. (And isn't possible that a statement like "I think auctions on Carolina Soul have become way out of line" also comes across as inflexible?) Packing up clothes and jamming to your tunes. I stopped Carolina Soul a few years back, it was t worth spending all that freaking time doing it. If I find it I find it or I use discogs if the price isn’t right. I enjoyed the gospel feel of some of these albums, kind of uplifting, strange for one of your videos, usually I’m depressed lol. I think any kind of record auctions that after 'events' are most likely to fetch absurd prices. I've watched a few minutes of ingroove whatnot live auctions and the prices people pay are staggering. There's an emotional element in events that push people to act irrationally. Stalk the obituaries instead Jon, it's easier. 😉 Cheers! Tom

I have heard Noble Records’ WhatNot auctions get insane, too. I think there are a ton of folks that just want to buy a record from Dillon or Mike. I’m honestly scaling back my buying in general. Another video. Another day. 😄

Hi Jon - The Dylan gospel record sounds very interesting. Dylan is probably the ultimate artist for covering. Kafunta is a nice find. I have 'The Turning Tide' archival release from a few years ago which is solid. Unfortunately her best work is probably backing others on the UK scene. Live auctions are strange...good decision to delete it. Cheers Dale
I don’t know, Dale. I think she has some pretty amazing performances out front. I just think a lot of her material didn’t receive the right kind of production. She has a recent album that receives more soulful production (though modern) than anything she did in the 1960s. Immediate stuff always had a pop-leaning sound. I still like much of it, though. Mazzy just found that copy in Dizzy’s collection and sold it to me. Unless there was an extra, he doesn’t have it. Very nice of him to sell it to me as he’s a big Dylan fan. Yeah, I rarely buy on eBay anymore. Carolina Soul is the only auction site I frequent, but again, the bids were getting insane on most auctions. Also… better for my wallet to stay away. Highly recommend the compilation The First Cut by P.P. Arnold. It’s CD only, but fantastic. Cheers! ✌🏻

I like Chip Taylor's original version of " Angel Of The Morning." I will listen to hers , and thanks for that as well ! E Bay is so inconsistent, very true !

I quit bidding on the Carolina Soul auctions about 4 years ago. When Curtis hit big The Impressions albums were in the $1 bins.

that particular ebay auctioner is so well known that i havent seen a single record go for a steal price on it. not for me.
