The fact that someone's whole life can lead up to one moment to protect someone else and they die doing so is really what gets to us. It happens everyday. RIP Hodor
Personally I love this scene. Absolutely love it. It's sad that he died. But he died protecting someone Else. His death completed his caracter arch, letting us finally understand why he is saying hodor, but not only that. Letting us know that all of these seasons he has been talking about the moment he dies. Without anyone, not even himself knowing it

I rarely cry watching TV shows. Of all the characters in Game of thrones, I never thought freaking Hodor would be the one to break me into tears. The setup... the music... the emotion. This plot twist just hits like a truck. Absolutely brilliant writing.
Fun fact: The director who made this episode also made the episode in Lost where Charlie dies. Both scenes are very similar and are probably the most emotional death scenes I've ever seen.
Robbin K Ruiz pretty much left us all speechless. It made you realize he wasn’t your normal disabled person and what he had to sacrifice. He was a hero unheralded.
My mom had that until I lost her at age 12. I still cower in fear while closing my ears when they show scenes like that on TV (while I reach for the remote to mute it before I change the channel).
Totally get it, in Logan during the scene he is dragged by his clone, I saw the spitting image of my father. It hurt twice and I felt legit horror for Logan, like it was my father being dragged.
Jesus i never bloody cry but this one scene has actually destroyed me. Absolutely brilliant writing, hordor is an excellent character who upholds his role to protect bran 😭😭
Even though the end didn't hold up to my expectations it is these type of scenes that make me almost forget about the bad ending and remember that this is the greatest show ever made! Valar Dohaeris
I wouldn’t say a masterpiece… I have read far more emotional short stories, that require minimal context to tear up a person. You don’t need a whole story, just the right context is enough. Which is done well here, but I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece.
We're totally gonna get it soon, they wouldn't upload these clips at random for nothing. Showing and reminiscing these epic scenes is definitely a way to intensify the hype.
I have no words for this scene, only tears, he seemed like just another pawn in the game but what most people don't realize is the domino effect of Wylis' sacrifice (imma call him Wylis, was his name after all), he saved Bran and also saved the world 😢
This is the reason Bran truly became detached and unemotional, the guilt he carries for the destroyed life of Hodor, the fear of the sheer devastating power he has over time and over others destroyed him and so to never allow it to happen again he has become what we would call a machine.
I don't usually cry. In fact, over the past five years, I can't remember shedding a single tear. That changed when I first watched that scene. No matter how many times I've tried to watch it again, I can't hold back my tears. Why does it affect me so deeply? Perhaps it's because we knew so little about Hodor's character until that moment, only to be confronted with the tragic origin of his name. Learning that he knew his fate since he was a child, yet still chose to embrace it, is heart-wrenching. It's the realization that he was willing to sacrifice his entire life for this moment, knowing the toll it would take on him, that moves me to my core. It makes me reflect on the nature of destiny and sacrifice. Hodor carried the weight of his future with silent dignity, embodying a level of bravery and selflessness that is profoundly touching. His story challenges us to consider the depth of our own courage and the sacrifices we're willing to make for others. In the end, it's not just the sadness of Hodor's fate that brings us to tears, but the beauty of his unyielding spirit. It reminds us of the unsung heroes in our lives, those who stand in the shadows yet hold us up, often at great personal cost. Hodor's story is a testament to the strength found in vulnerability, the power of silent sacrifice, and the indelible mark it leaves on our hearts.
I have so much respect for this GOT writers. That "Hold the door" story really blew my mind and till this day I have nothing but love and respect for them. Hands down one of my favorite TV show story. 😟
@@thewind6047 Wrong. The books aren't complete, G R R Martin is still writing them. These events here have yet to be written by the author. In fact he himself said that in his book, when he will reach this moment, this scene is not going to be present. Not as shown here. It's going to be a whole different thing. This scene here is all from the writers of the show. In the book Hodor is also going to hold this door, but it's going to be for different reasons and nature. No time travel, no Hodor = Hold the Door brainwash style. All different. Besides, even tho they take from the books, it's hardly a 1 to 1 transcription. For example, Tyrion is extremely different in the Books. An actual villain, petty, vindictive, and destructive. Tyrion in the show is charming, unsung Hero, with many unspoken morals and gallantry, even good looking. Way different. That's all the show's merit. They still share a ton at the core, but they really differ. Actually pretty interesting. Search ''The real Tyrion Lannister'' here on UA-cam, it has almost 3million views. Shows the differences between the two. It's 1h long, but worth it.

The feeling always remains the same. Still haunts me this day. Hodor actually warged into the future. The only one to do it in the series.🙌
I like to think that as Wylis/Hodor begins to calm towards the end, it's not just the subsiding of a seizure; it's him coming to terms with his fate and finding peace with it.
Everything about this scene is perfect. Obviously the realization that hodor spent his whole life for this one moment. The horrifying realization of how powerful bran is. The music is amazing. The look on brans face. The actor did such a good job in this moment

@@djancakthey had no more book to base on, that's why they had to improvise. And they are shitty screenwriters, remember that they were the ones who wrote X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
@@xantiom they actually had plenty of book to base it on, they just decided to ignore most of the content.
It's been six years and this still gives me mad goosebumps.
Same. I was laughing so hard. Great stuff lol
Stop playing with my emotions😭😭😭
Hold your emotions 😉

Its like watching my best friend died 😭
Completely ruined by egomaniac showrunners. What a shame.
No its not
Did he dieded?
You clearly never had your best friend die. idiot.
The fact that someone's whole life can lead up to one moment to protect someone else and they die doing so is really what gets to us. It happens everyday. RIP Hodor
Oh yes, THIS was the scene I needed to be reminded of today, as if I wasn't depressed enough.
Thaannnnkkkss!
Lol right?
I didn't vote for you
Especially after Captain Kirk owned your son in single combat after you died.
Hope you feel better ❤️
@@Misslyssaleigh so sweet of a comment is this.... So un sarcastic
He lived his entire life to fulfill his destiny: to save his master, a friend. RIP Hodor
Just incredible writing and acting how it all circles back to him as a kid and Bran gets to witness it, one of the best scenes in TV.
Personally I love this scene. Absolutely love it. It's sad that he died. But he died protecting someone Else. His death completed his caracter arch, letting us finally understand why he is saying hodor, but not only that. Letting us know that all of these seasons he has been talking about the moment he dies. Without anyone, not even himself knowing it
Thanks professor.
He didn't choose to protect.
@@thatguybutitsactuallyagirl5384 I think he did, he saw the moment of his death and still followed Bran.
He was of course forced to hold the door both his younger and older days.
@@osonhouston How about instead you think of him regaining his sanity in those final moments. As if he suddenly is back to who he is. Because it does seem to me that he forgot everything due to seeing something he didn't understand, Bran in this case.
Bran worged into him, he did see what was going to happen. He did know. That makes it more poignant.
So he knew about the end for almost all his life.
He was afraid of everything, but at all he’s the bravest man in the world❤️
No, more like Shingeki no Kyojin type of time paradox where the future writes the past and not the other way round
As Eddard Stark said, a man can ONLY be brave when he is afraid ❤️
I rarely cry watching TV shows. Of all the characters in Game of thrones, I never thought freaking Hodor would be the one to break me into tears. The setup... the music... the emotion. This plot twist just hits like a truck. Absolutely brilliant writing.
This is one of those scenes that show how genius GRRM really is. What a freaking loop it is.
Nick Ladushkin agreed George R.R. Martin is fucking insane
Sooo
How was season 8?
@@barakapatrick1599 Man, hahahahahahaha
@@barakapatrick1599 GRRM didnt have anything to do with S8 lol
@@barakapatrick1599 Wait, there is a S8? I was wondering why they had such an open ending in season 6
Red wedding was devastating, but this is just something else.
Fun fact: The director who made this episode also made the episode in Lost where Charlie dies. Both scenes are very similar and are probably the most emotional death scenes I've ever seen.
I was so shook when I found out that why he’s hodor biggest plot twist to me
Thank you Irene adler
Robbin K Ruiz pretty much left us all speechless. It made you realize he wasn’t your normal disabled person and what he had to sacrifice. He was a hero unheralded.
sadly no one in GoT will ever know what hodor did, its the most saddest moment in GoT for me.
@@gauravpatil2174 Bran does. More than anyone else. Because he saw it happen. Because he caused it.

I just don't understand why I cry everytime I see this scene no matter if I watched it during GOT times or now. Hodor was such a pure character!
true man
Most agonising scene ever. I legit cried for a while watching this.
The combination of terror, hope, music, learning how Hodor’s life was unfairly altered and his death work together so well
Are you gonna drop an actual trailer or are you just playing with us
Philip Siziba they're just playing with us. December 21st is the rumoured date, and it's the 1st official day of winter.
@@seth1627 yup...it is not gonna be this month but the hype has begun...we are in for one crazy ass wild ride
@@seth1627 depends on country. Winter includes november for some
Niall487 True, lets hope they choose November and not December then.
They finally published the release date Isn't that enough for now???😉
That look at 3:22. True valiance and heroism. Hold the Door.
The fact I have a son with epilepsy, makes this scene the most heart breaking I ever seeing.
So sorry 😭😭. Your son is a blessing to mankind. What he lacks, he shall definitely gain 100 times
My brother has epilepsy so this scenes hits for me on that level too.
My mom had that until I lost her at age 12.
I still cower in fear while closing my ears when they show scenes like that on TV (while I reach for the remote to mute it before I change the channel).
I know, this hurt me so much , the pai of being helpless, not able to donanything but wait 😢
Totally get it, in Logan during the scene he is dragged by his clone, I saw the spitting image of my father. It hurt twice and I felt legit horror for Logan, like it was my father being dragged.
When I realized Hodor was a painful abbreviation of Hold the Door, I got so emotional.
Damn! Such an intense moment and a heartbreaking time loop!
Jesus i never bloody cry but this one scene has actually destroyed me. Absolutely brilliant writing, hordor is an excellent character who upholds his role to protect bran 😭😭
This was hands down the best scene in tv history. It couldnt have been portrayed better, unbelievably good
Even though the end didn't hold up to my expectations it is these type of scenes that make me almost forget about the bad ending and remember that this is the greatest show ever made!
Valar Dohaeris
I fully knew this moment was happening and cried like a baby when it was. The child hodor broke me
This scene is Masterpiece!
The story that leads up to scene and how audience emotions are involved is amazing
I wouldn’t say a masterpiece… I have read far more emotional short stories, that require minimal context to tear up a person. You don’t need a whole story, just the right context is enough. Which is done well here, but I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece.
@@62sy many will and deal with it.
WE WANT THE DAMN TRAILER
We're totally gonna get it soon, they wouldn't upload these clips at random for nothing. Showing and reminiscing these epic scenes is definitely a way to intensify the hype.
...6 months later...do u tho? 😢😣
I have no words for this scene, only tears, he seemed like just another pawn in the game but what most people don't realize is the domino effect of Wylis' sacrifice (imma call him Wylis, was his name after all), he saved Bran and also saved the world 😢
3:42 I remember seeing this part for the first time and I broke here. Something truly poetic
This is the reason Bran truly became detached and unemotional, the guilt he carries for the destroyed life of Hodor, the fear of the sheer devastating power he has over time and over others destroyed him and so to never allow it to happen again he has become what we would call a machine.
He lightens up after the Night King is killed though.
I mean its not
no its because the power consumed him.
not a machine The machine.
No. That's dumb. It's because he isn't Bran anymore. He says it. He says he only remembers what it was like to be Brandon Stark.
No matter how many years it's been, this scene always has tears streaming down my face.
Hodor holds the door to prevent Season 8 Trailer to come out. **sob sob**
So done😂😂
Well
I'ma say
The series realy ddn't age well
What an epic and tragic scene that payed off emotionally for the audience over an entire series. Master storytelling.
This scene has such an impact on the audience when it aired, the way everyone was struck by guilt for mocking Hodor and making memes of him
Definitely the most emotional scene in the entire series and a memorable one in television altogether.
When the "Goodbye, Brother" music starts, I couldn't "hold the door" for my tears. Such a tragic and bittersweet moment.

It's not "writers" it's an author. George R. R. Martin
The writers have nothing to do with it lol it’s based on a book
@@Jabullz Wrong.
@@TheDorianTube Seems reasonable. Everyone knows this scene and putting it in the book will just be anticlimactic.
Lets hope he'll finish the last books, lots of people are hoping for a more satisfying conclusion.
From Hodor to Hold the Door, character revelation and transformation was amazing.
Greatest scene of all-time in cinema in my opinion. Profound backstory for a character that is in the background for most of the series. I get chills every time I see it!
God damn it...this scene still makes me cry and I’ve watched it half a dozen times
Almost got me in tears right now. One of the most powerful scenes in movie history.

This is the best scene I have ever seen in my life . I get tear in my eyes every time I watch this scene. Truly masterpiece. The background music is mind blowing.❤
I hate when both of them finally reach Winterfell, Bran is just like, "Thanks for the ride bitch. You can leave now."
the most emotional & heartbreaking scene of GoT. I was cried after watching this scene..
A man was thought hodor is just no one, but now he think hodor is a special one..
I'm sobbing like crazy. What makes this scene gut-wrenching is how pure and kind Hodor was. He served and protected Bran faithfully for this very moment. The actors, writers and crew truly outdid themselves with this scene.
2022: Decided to rewatch and this scene still leaves me in tears😭😭😭
Still gives me goosebumps. The only scene in GOT where i almost cried.
Genius writing and production. All the questions about Hodor saying his own name for several seasons finally gets answered. In the most brilliant way.
The only scene where i actually teared a while. It is incredible how a man's whole life was ruined just for one scene. He was the unsong hero. The most touching moment of the whole series. The feeling always remains the same. Still haunts me this day.
Hodor actually warged into the future. The only one to do it in the series.🙌
This is such an incredible episode and I remember the intense emotions I felt the night it came out.. so beautifully written
I like to think that as Wylis/Hodor begins to calm towards the end, it's not just the subsiding of a seizure; it's him coming to terms with his fate and finding peace with it.
After this , Bran was so devestated that he somehow was responsible of his death, so he lost all emotions.
Came here from 2024 crying to see this wonderful piece of art😊
Everything about this scene is perfect.
Obviously the realization that hodor spent his whole life for this one moment.
The horrifying realization of how powerful bran is.
The music is amazing.
The look on brans face. The actor did such a good job in this moment
The music in these scene and really the entire series is perfect beyond words. Made this scene go from great to epic.
Just the layers of creativity that culminated in this moment is something special and what I continually ponder about from time to time including now. Low key the most underrated moment of the show.
not all heroes wear a cape, some hold the door
I guess I am not the only one who still cries when I see this scene😭😭😭😭😭
