New York has often been a theme and muse for singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega. "Luka" was inspired by a child she saw on a street in the Chelsea neighborhood; "Toms Diner" was about an Upper West Side restaurant and her last album, "Beauty & Crime," was a collection of tunes of how the city changed by tragedies. She joins us to play live songs with a new theme, love, the subject of her new album.

One of the great singer songwriters of our time
This song still sounds great 40 odd years on
This lady's talent remains as strong today as when I was first blown away by her poetic and deeply involving rythyms back in '85. A female Paul Simon if ever I saw one. Great to see her on such wonder form. Long may it continue. 👍🏻
this lady isjust full of pure talent.
Suzanne is a real poetical songwriter, one of the best USA singer in this intimate song genre. Far underrated in the world !! As often happens, very precious things are not estimate enough. Unfortunateley people prefer to much noisy music without feelings
Its the first time hearing her music this morning for me. Upon hearing the Queen and the Soldier on the radio I had to check her out. Very rarely do we hear wonderful stories made into beautiful song lyrics like we are hearing from Suzanne Vega. Awesome stuff.
TRUE artists are often undervalued in this fake new world
marco brenni genre not gender
thank's for your correction: I've just changed the word
Who underrates Suzanne Vega?
She's my absolute favorite, amazing artist! Love Suzanne since 1986!
This lady has one of the beautiful voices I've ever heard. Period.
Her voice moves me every time I hear it. So achingly vulnerable.
Da notare l'espressione e il ringraziamento iniziale prima di attaccare il brano... Dio mio... come si fa a non innamorarsi di un'artista simile!!!!!
Emanuele Mazzilli Infatti, io me ne sono innamorato da anni !
As soon as she started to sing tears shot in my eyes, I swear, This woman is something else. Will always love you Suzanne.
So underrated but yet so brilliant. What a voice!
She is amazing!

I LOVE HER VOICE!!!! Is so sweet!!! Bravo Suzanne!!

Your singing/performing makes me weak in the knees. More important, it nonetheless also helps me to get out of bed each morning. Thank you.

❤❤ what a writer 😮😊😊😊I just love her
First time I’ve ever heard this absolutely lovely, such a lovely Voice which hasn’t changed at all over the years, still as good now as when I first heard songs like Luca, musical poetry, well done Suzanne👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😀
If it doesn't touch your soul it's not MUSIC! THIS is music.
Shes so cool. She executes so well. Such a focussed and thoughtful artist. Hope to see her play in Nyc next time shes playing.
I'm crying. Such a beautiful song and person.
Thanks for the suggestion. 'Heartfelt' is what I like.
The sound of silence! Real music.
Wonderful voice - we love it !!!
REMOODS
I love this song all time.so lovely.
I absolutely LOVE Suzanne!
I have to say that I have not been into all of Suzanne Vega's type of folk, but this song is totally superb! She is very talented of course but I am older and grew up with the type folk of Joan Baez and Judy Collins, or more traditional folk. This song by Suzanne is really, really good! I also like "Luka" a lot.
"You have hands of raining water and that earring in your ear
The widsom on your face denies the number of your years"
she is an angel...such a silkiness to her voice....calming
Suzanne for ever xxx Can't wait to see her perform in Paris again!
She is an artist with so many qualities. Your compositions are poetic pearls, I also love your voice !!! I would like to see her show in Brazil, my country! ❤️ 🌷
one of the greats

BEST LOVE SONG OF THE 20TH CENTURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant. No autotuning here my friends. A pleasure for the ears Chapeau.
Her voice instantly turns me into a helpless adoring mouth-breather. Hold you like a baby that will not fall asleep? Well, if you insist.
Really my favourite song. I love it!
A 1000 memories in this one song 💖
Thanks you Suzanne. Congratulations
It does not get any better than that.
Your correct Tom keep safe mate ✌🙏🕊

Magnifique !
Suzanne Vega 💙
Like we men ALL fall for the "sweet shy smile routine" with which Ms. Vega opens her song. Well at least if you're me, you do. (Sigh.)

Je kiffe, belle prestation !
Just Great.

2022
Wow her voice and technique is still the same after all the years. She some great and is amazing. Which album is it describing with the love theme. Is it her close up volume 1 studio album?
Sing on Beautiful Songbird
buenos dias
y paz un beso y mejor actitud
@crazycrow76 I must admit I never heard the album itself, only the couple of tracks that radio and mtv played (back when Mtv meant *something* to music, even if far from an entirely good thing). As best as I remember they seemed 'slicker', more rhythm dominate (which I usually don't like) too much attitude/too little heart... as best as I remember.
Maybe I should check out that album /some of her later work. There's just so much stuff out there to get to!
All the boys on Mars, before they go on their first intergalactic fun trips are told: "make sure you swing by Earth and check out Suzanne Vega..."
Model guitar pliz ? Taylor 514ce ?
Those headphones she's got on are the same ones I got on -same model- & bought some 20 years ago.
(I still see them all the time online, on tv, seeing people 'in the studio'.)
Every once in a while they rattle, one side or the other. Then I take them off & give them a shake &, usually, the rattle disappears.
One day I'll get me another pair..of Sony professional headphones. - A worthy purchase, to these ears.(Whatever the model #).
They cost a 100 dollars,20 years ago.

She looks & sounds just as she did in 87, when Solitude Standing came out.She seems to have aged well.
She has aged like good wine
You should check out her last couple albums, which are much better than the stuff she produced with her ex-husband during her techno phase. She's returned to a more acoustic and heartfelt approach.
gypsy suzanne vega ok
4:18 :-)
Little girl.
That guy on the left, is he with her?
She should have never left her popish-folky ways... that's when her popularity took a dive (seemed to me, could be wrong). She put out some album titled (something like) 99 degrees. That's when I lost track.
...which means what? :P
Spellbinding.
All time favourite...
