I love how Stolas casually opens a portal to a solar system that's about to supernova, just to have the perfect backdrop to sing to his daughter. And the song is perfect as well.
He literally googled "astronomical catastrophies to fall asleep to" with his magic book and then sang her lullaby while she watched. 10/10 dad.
I literally see you in almost every reaction video comment section lol
Oh my goodness its actual Millie from Helluva bo- wait, has someone from hell PUT A HIT ON ME? OH NO! THEY"RE ON TO ME *Throws self @@_paranoidrobot_
Sorry to be this guy but my brain works weird so I have to say this… he opens a portal to a system that’s about to supernova. “Solar” is our system the systems are named based of the star they surrounds name four example our star is named solar.
Not to be that guy but our Star is named Sol. Thus everything orbiting our sun is in the Solar system. Sol system would also be correct but doesn’t sound as good.
I love Stolas' and Octavia's conversation on the ride. By far my favorite part of the episode is Stolas trying to explain himself, starting and stopping over and over again as he tries to figure out what to say and how to say it... then realizing he just doesn't have the words to express what's going on with him. I love that.
it's very hard to explain without sounding selfish or sounding like she is a burden, but to put it bluntly he has put up with a terrible marriage and put his personal life on hold, now he wants to be happy. and i dont mean that he's unhappy with Via, but he reasonably needs more.
Also, he's preventing himself from saying anything that isn't directly relevant to talking with Octavia, or that's unfair to his wife.
i dont think he could give a rat's ass about what's "Fair" to his wife. that infernal woman has been the bane of his existence, and the ONLY reason that he stayed with her, is so that Via had a normal childhood. also she isnt hurt that he cheated on her either.@@DanaOtken
@@UltimateGamerCC And she's a lousy mother, although at least a disinterested rather than malicious one. But venting about it won't help right now, especially given that Stolas is aware that everything is now on fire. Venting may help somewhat later, but it tends to come with unexpected consequences (another lesson his wife has failed to learn).
Fun fact: this episode takes place in the greed ring. Hellborn demons ( imps in particular) are allowed to visit the other rings while sinners are confined to stay in the pride ring.
I disagree on that. I think sinners have limited access to other rings based upon their sins in life.
they'd be able to escape the Purges if they could travel @@MattStMarie-bm5sq
@@MattStMarie-bm5sqno it's canon that sinners are stuck in pride.
@@whitenobeard cannon for the fictional work maybe but biblical or Religious cannon I'm not so sure.
@@MattStMarie-bm5sq well that depends on if you consider Dante's inferno to be an actual part of biblical Canon. Since the 7 circles of hell didn't exist as a concept before that.
I honest can't believe how much you sounded like Millie when you first said "LOO LOO LAND!?"
My favorite small detail in this episode is when Blitz hangs up his cell phone like a landline phone and smashes it, he has a mega phone handy because this might be a common occurrence.
My fav Blitz quote is "ooh what a mouth."
The resemblance is uncanny.
Have you tried counting all the times a main character breaks a phone in this serries?
I do love that at first you think Octavia's jsut a typical cartoon angstry, grumpy teen but the end of the episode recontextualises her behaviour as her simply trying to cover her fear that her dad is going to leave her and no longer cares about her
Octavia always breaks my heart with how much she suffers from her parents divorce. It makes me constantly worry about how my kids feel about my divorce from their cheating mother.
"Afton-chan, no!" dealt me psychic damage, holy shit
I'm assuming the Thumbnails are going to remain one episode behind until you watch the pilot. I kinda like that idea. Can't wait for you to get to it.
Oh thank goodness someone mentioned it.
Lmao I really didn't wanna say anything
I mean it's kinda too late for it anyway she knows almost everything except about loona and blitzo since it wasn't mentioned yet
@@karakiz5640She can still watch it though.
@@DanGamingFan2406 yeah as a matter of fact I just hope she watches anything soon I thought we gonna get a daily helluva boss uploads but noooooo :(
"Why is he such an icon?" Because he's literally just Brandon Rogers playing himself in cartoon form.
Forgot this was episode 2. Great series as a whole. Already it’s becoming more about character drama than the assassination business
or the horniness. lol
Fun one for you the guy voicing Fizz is the singer who plays bettlejuice in the musical. There is a loooot of awesome muscial talent in this show that will come up as well as a few legendary actors. Like Mox is voiced by the same voice actor as invader Zim and Billy from grim adventures
Fun Fact: The Lesser Key of Solomon is a real world sorcery grimoire, in it the Ars Goetia is outlined which is 72 demons of varying rank and incredible power. Stolas is one of the Princes of the Ars Goetia and his knowledge and power is centered around Astronomy, Herbology/Botany, and Gemology which is on prominent display in this and last episode.
See stolas is such a fucking COMPLEX character. And like, SO realistic. Well, as far as a royal owl demon can get. He is not one dimensional, neither a 1d horny mf nor a 1d pushover soft guy.
He's sassy, he's horny, he's a good dad, he's intelligent, he's trying, he's amazing.
"Listen to your Ho, Mox" is definitely one of his best lines.
For me Stolas struggling with was so sad in a way I wasn’t expecting. Because he so desperately wants to let her know what’s going on but there’s so much that he can’t even vocalize it. Trying to tell the truth while also remembering that Via is his daughter and really doesn’t need to know everything
Helluva Boss has official English Subtitles that sometimes provide extra context for the Episode; you can access these Subtitles through the Gear icon in the bottom right of the Video.
Love your content and I hope you enjoy the rest of the Series!
I think it's for the recent episodes only, i don't think season 1 has them though.
@@xenoemblem7
I have been living a lie; thank you for the knowledge you have graced upon us.
AHHHH thank you so much for the massive super thanks!!
The series hires a lot of Broadway Performers. Outside of Stolas's actor, in this episode we have Alex Brightman of Broadway's Beetlejuice fame playing the Robot Clown/Jester. And Octavia the daughter is the same actress who played Veronica in the Heathers musical and Janice in the Mean Girls musical.
Ok so since you're confused I'll clarify. Not all beings in hell are sinners who died. There are many creatures native to hell like imps and hell hounds. But there also greater demons born in hell like Stolas who are gifted with unbelievable power. Sinners are only found in the pride ring where they are trapped. Natural born demons however are found everywhere and can travel to other rings which is why we mastly see imps in the other rings. Hope this explains some stuff
Man, Robo-Fizz really hits different now
This song was beautiful to me originally, but after having a son it brings me to tears
Please notice that there’s a pilot!! Some of the character voices are different and its not 100% canon, but a reference is made to it slightly later on and its still a good episode
People in chat told her not to watch it because it wasn’t cannon.
@@FilmAcolyteReturns Whaaaat, that’s crazy though. It’s still content, and gives the best idea of the show up front and first. ):
@@FilmAcolyteReturns Man chat’s kinda cringe then. It’s only a few minutes and it’s a good watch. This ain’t like a filler arc in an anime, it’s just a short episode in a funny adult cartoon so why would anyone skip it just cuz it’s not canon?
Stolas' Character is my favourite. I like his polite, sad and vulnerable demeanor.
By the way stolas actively censors himself which is why when he mentions naughty words he gets the beep. He is literally the only character in the universe this happens to at the time of writing this.
I love Stolas, I really do. This man quickly won over many of us when seeing him with Via and later seeing how he is such a a sad boy. That being said though, he really wasn't thinking in this episode.
He knows Via is upset and how his affair hurt his family. Taking her to a theme park she loved as a kid is a cute idea.. but than he invites the guy his sleeping with along... A makes innuendos in front of her...
Stolas really wasn't thinking at all here.
First time a noticed this. When the dad blames the kid for ruining the photo, the thing on his head sprouts a tear.
I just realised when blitz says an overrated sellout jester he doesn’t mean an actual human jester but he means actual fizzarolli AND robo fizz mentions Ozzie’s factory (obviously I won’t elaborate for spoiler reasons but I never really heard what he said and I thought blitz meant a human jester)
This is still one of my favourite episodes in the series.
You really should check out the Helluva Boss pilot episode too. It sort of is and is not part of the canon and Loona's voice actor pulls double duty as Millie as well, but its fun as Hell - pun intended. It also shows how Blitzo gets his hands on the book that allows him and his company travel into the world of the living.
As a child of divorce, it's crazy how this one episode showed me i became a self fulfilling prophecy. Having been on both sides of this melodramatic coin i never thought how rough it would be for the child until i was the adult. Ever since then i put every day ahead for their well being. Thanks Helluva boss!
The Episode that gave us a hint of the Bigger Plot at large.
Anyway, in case you didn’t realize, Helluva Boss takes place in the same Universe as Hazbin Hotel.
Also, keep an eye out for the Torch Guy, he will make reappearances.
By the way, did she skip over the Helluva Boss Pilot or what?
"You will be ok" is on spotify, however its the composer singing, however there are more verses.
There are also some covers in Spotify.
5:05 literally foreshadowing to Millie’s reaction to hearing it too lol
Right energy… wrong land. So glad you finally got to see all of these btw, i had bet they were totally your speed.
You gotta watch the pilot episode! If only for the really catchy theme song!
You’ll understand what Stolas was attempting to explain to Octavia in Season 2(specifically the first episode)
If Afton ended up in this hell, my god he'd be unstoppable
Fun fact: The animatronics were designed by Gooseworx, who did "Digital Circus." She does creepy real, real, well.
Just to give you a little insight on things not explicitly explained in the Episodes themselves, but Hell is populated by Sinners (like Angel Dust and Vaggie in Hazbin Hotel) and Demons (like the I.M.P. Crew and Charlie from Hazbin Hotel). Only Demons can travel to other rings of Hell (like Greed where Looloo Land is located). Sinners are restricted to the first Ring, Pride, where Charlie’s hotel and I.M.P.’s office are.
Also, when you get finished with episode 7 of Season 1, be aware that Episode 8 wasn’t released until after Season 2 Episode 4 due to copyright issues, so if you’re watching the episodes in release order there might be some slight confusion.
And I absolutely love your reactions.....style and commentary.
This is technically the actual first episode for the season. The Pilot is just that, a pilot.
As someone who has suffered from panic attacks and questioning my very existence, it brings me comfort to know that Alicia exists and is thriving
An interesting (though not TOO important) thing you might notice (for the new audience) is that male born imps have horns that are equally white and black striped, where as female born imps have almost entirely black horns with thin white stripes segmenting them.
Imps are the second-lowest rank of hell-born natives, with only hellhounds having a lower position. Humans who die are turned into demons but they can't leave the circle of hell they live on versus native-born demons (like imps, hellhounds and the other devils like Stolas and Octavia who are of a MUCH higher class than the imps. I believe second or third highest rank of nobility) who can travel inbetween the different Rings of Hell, each one apropriately named. For Stella, Stolas' wife, it is probably worse that Stolas slept with an imp (Blitzo) than that he cheated on her. For an arranged mariage like theirs a semi-discreet dalliance with a lover or mistress is possibly expected considering there isn't necesairily any love between them, but while Stolas can ignore some of the differences in class, Stella is VERY much a high society woman.
Fun Fact: The name Goetia is likely a reference to an ancient book of sorcery "Ars Goetia" AKA "The Lesser Key of Solomon" that was basically a complete idiot's guide to summoning demons. It's likely this very grimoire that Stolas loans to Blitz in exchange for his "services".
It's not just a reference, it's outright confirmed. We even see the various circles that the Lesser Key depicts in referring to each member and how to summon them. We see Stolas' on display in his palace here and others...later.
Man they really did foreshadow Fizzaroli's entire backstory with this episode
Just in case you haven't watched it yet, Helluva Boss also has a pilot episode that isn't listed on the official playlist
20:38 I just realized moxxie’s line can also apply to the relationship between via and stolas 😭 like I know that wasn’t the context but that’s ironic dialogue considering we now know blitzo came onto stolas after not seeing him for 20 years
"LuLuLand!?" 5:05
Sounded EXACTLY like how Millie says it in the episode
This Stolas song is definitely one of the lullaby I'll sing to my kid
Remember, they're demons, not monsters. They love each other.
To clarify all demons outside the pride ring are native demons of hell, which there are a verity of spices. The ones in pride are sinners, whom are trapped in said ring. (note: native demons can travel between rings as they pleas)
The music in this show is incredible you will love it Alicia 😊
10:56 that's exactly why Blitzo is my favorite character because he's hilarious and chaotic af
There's two kinds of demons in this setting.
The first are Sinners, who are the souls of dead humans consigned to Hell, as well as Lucifer and any fallen angels that came down to Hell with him during his fall, although to my knowledge Lucifer is the only fallen angel ever shown.
The second are Hellborn, which are creatures native to Hell like Hellhounds, Imps, Succubi and Incubi, and the other assorted creatures of Hell. At the top of the Hellborn hierarchy is the Goetia Family, the ruling class of nobles tasked with actually running Hell.
While Stella and Octavia are OCs, Stolas and the other Goetias we've seen and heard about are lifted from the _Ars Goetia_ or _The Lesser Key of Solomon,_ an old book on demonolgy that outlines 72 named demons that rule Hell and meddle in the affairs of mortals by offering them boons and pacts.
Stolas is, according to the Ars Goetia, 'a Great Prince of Hell, commands twenty-six legions of demons. He teaches astronomy and is knowledgeable about herbs, plants, and precious stones. He is often depicted as a raven or a crowned owl with long legs.'
So yeah. Very on the nose design.
Notice how Stella (stolas's """""""""wife"""""") ONLY brought up the fact Stolas slept with an IMP and not that he cheated she only cares that Stolas would DARE sleep with the lowest class of demon in hell.
10:00, you can thank Mammon, the Archdemon of Greed for that. You can even see his face on the bills later.
Yes! Love this episode! Stolas is such a good dad! 🤗
You need to understand"... "I dint have the words"... he can't explain his marriage, but the one thing he was sure of, his live for his daughter
You really should do the rest of this series..... It's soul southing..... My wife and kids will continue to watch this with you!
I was half expecting Moxxie to pull out the 9mill and smoke the rigged target with real bullets... I would have loved it...
I always forget how good that first song is with Stolas
So something the show isn't going to tell you but is really good to know because it allows you to pick up on some stuff you'd otherwise miss. And that is Imps horns are distinctly different from one another based on if they're male or female. Male horns have thick white lines and are usually curved while female horns have thin white lines and are usually straight.
17:28 you outta pocket for that 😂😂😂
5:10 Looloo as in Lucifer, it is why their mascot is an apple.
Would love to see you react to the rest of the series!
I'm glad your getting into it, it gets a lot better down the line too
This was my fav episode for the longest time
I always tell everyone that my favorite part of this show is that Richard Horvitz voices moxxie.
I am zero% surprised Alicia loves Blitz, he's basically her but a dude and SIGNIFICANTLY emotionally unstable
Stolas's singing always gets me misty-eyed. If he tells me that I'll be okay, with that voice... I believe him
Okay, I feel like I should get this out of the way before there are any further misunderstandings. I'll give you a quick rundown on how Hell works in this show.
First off, there are 2 kinds of demons: the Sinners, and the Hellborn. Sinners are the damned souls of dead humans that wound up in hell, and can take on almost any form, and are also immortal unless killed by a holy weapon.
Hellborn are a collection of demon species that were born in Hell, including imps, hellhounds, succubi, baphomets, and more. Most Hellborn demons are mortal, with the exception of the highborn demon nobility, like the Goetia family, or the Seven Sins.
Hell is made up of 7 distinct rings, each one representing a different sin, and each having a different colored sky. This show started off in the Pride ring, which has a red sky, but Loo Loo Land is in the Greed ring, which has a green sky.
All Hellborn demons can traverse the Rings at will, but Sinner demons are all confined to the Pride ring.
Having watched the latest episodes of season 2 then coming back to this episode, it kinda puts it in a different light, but this is still an amazing episode.
Why is he such an icon!?
Because he's voiced by Brandon Rogers.
That number with Stolas at the beginning is so beautiful ❤ also did you react to the pilot for hellva boss? It's awesome and gives an introduction to all the characters 👌🏻
The company has such a catchy jingle
I'll explain, without spoilers, the Hell hierarchy.
So Hell is all about power, the stronger you are, the more authority you have.
Imps are at the BOTTOM, all the way down. Loona is a Hellhound, and they're stronger than Imps and generally serve stronger demons, but Loona was adopted by Blitzo, so it's a bit different. Hellhounds are a bit of a wild card.
Above Imps are everyone, but more specifically is other types of demons, you'll see plenty over time, but an example would be Succubi. They're above Imps.
Above them are the Sinner Demons, that is humans that died and went to Hell. They are only allowed to exist on the ring of Pride, that's where IMP is located and Sinners are the majority of their clientele, because they get revenge for them on the living, of course. Hell has 7 Rings, Loo Loo Land is located on the ring of Greed, little fun fact.
Above the Sinners are the Ars Goetia, the bird demons. Stolas is one of them, and there are many more. As powerful as he is though, and he is VERY powerful, he's not even CLOSE to a top dog, he's not event he top of the Ars Goetia. He's like the Nobility of Hell, then there's the Sins, the real ROYALTY. Not Sinners, SINS. These are the rulers of ENTIRE rings. So the Sin of Greed, Lust, Wrath, ect. They're the most powerful beings in all of Hell.
TOPPING out the list, the Sin of Pride and single most powerful being in Hell is Lucifer, Charlie's father. Side note, it isn't fully clear just how powerful Charlie and her Mother are in comparison to Lucifer, but they should be pretty powerful in theory. Charlie isn't, which is why she's basically pushed around and mocked all the time, but her Mother Lillith should be pretty strong.
Also, you'll hear the names Lucifer AND Satan, those are TWO different people. Satan is his own Sin, the names are not interchangeable.
Lastly, in case you didn't catch it. The robot jester we see is ROBO Fizz. It was based on a REAL Clown named Fizzarolli. THIS Robo Fizz has been destroyed.
Two slight amendments to this. Overlords, the most powerful of the Sinners, are considered their own tier and place above Sinners but below the Ars Goetia. Likewise Charlie and Lilith are considered to have their own tier as being members of the royal family, placed below Lucifer and above the other six Deadly Sins. We don't know how powerful the royals are in comparison to the others, but in ranking they're above everyone but Lucifer himself.
It’s kind of funny how episode 1 kicks off with infidelity being the first key in to our episode’s villain’s depravity… then we kick off episode 2 with the fallout of Stolas’ infidelity.
Only it becomes less clear cut the more you dig into it since Stolas is one of our protagonist characters and is portrayed much more sympathetically.
But I’ll stop before I veer into spoiler territory.
Hes a icon cause hes a singal father tv dad energy
each ring has it's own color palate
The Pilot is a must it builds the world and gives more context on how they got the book to the living world
Man this episode hits different on rewatch...
I think that Fizzarolli's song has a similar breakdown to Charlie's song from Hazbin Hotel
"Listen to your ho" is such a great line. Lol
don't forget about the rest. we have a little bit left of season 2 another 13 or so episodes to go view here
Think back on this after you watch the main episode with the real Fizz… suddenly it hits a Lot harder
This was such a great episode that did so much to set this great show up and you can see/hear a lot of interesting things in the background, like roboFizz is built in big Ozzie's factory but owned by Mammon in a park called LooLoo land also owned by Mammon that's a rip-off of Lucifer's Lulu World and this episode takes place in the Greed ring instead of the Pride ring like Hazbin Hotel and the first episode of this show.
Important note 90% of the characters in Helluva Boss are hell-born meaning they were never human and explains why they do certain things because for them this is their version of "earth" unlike the human Sinners.
They are born there, they need to eat and drink, they can die by conventional means, and grow old and die, though royals like Stolas and Octavia works slightly differently.
Should be noted Stolas despite being a Prince like Charlie are not the same, Charlie is above everyone except her father and mother in the hierarchy well Stolas is middle management, just keep that in mind.
Its interesting that the thumbnails use shots from a previous episode, last reaction's thumbnail had a shot from the pilot and now this reaction has a shot from episode 1.
I'm so glad I got on youtube just in time to watch both of your episodes, I hope you keep watching, there's some really good ones, my fav is ep. 5 from this season.
8:39 so that baby didn’t die and go to hell it was born in hell because its an imp and imps are native to hell (the same goes for other demons such as hellhounds, succubi, incubi, and other hell born demons) you can usually tell the difference between a sinner and a hell born demon by their design since sinners tend to have unique designs whereas demons tend to have similar characteristics ( like Moxie and Blitsø both having large horns with thick white stripes) anyway sorry for the long rant and I hope you enjoy the rest of this show!
( welp I just wrote this comment for nothing because not even 10 seconds later someone in your chat told you and now I feel kinda stupid for not waiting to see if someone told you)
I am offering these words to the algorithm gods that they might rain down blessings upon your channel. Thank you for such fun commentary to go along with such an awesome show. I never get tired of re-watching things with you making it so fun. Keep it up, you are appreciated.
17:28 that sounded SUPER personal
Sinners (humans) can only go to the 1st ring of hell. They're also the only ones that can make deals with humans on earth. Imps, hell hounds, and other hell-born are the only ones that can travel between other rings. And as far as I know, the hell-born age more or less normally and can be killed relatively normally, where sinners don't age but can still be killed. But I could be wrong
the songs get way better from here, can't wait to see you react to all the episodes! :3
For a demonic owl Stolas is a great dad.
Sinners are people that were bad people in life and when they died they went to Hell. Also Sinners can not leave the Pride ring. The demons are born in hell and have different types.
The types that are born in hell and their rings are.
-Imps (Wrath)
-Hellhounds (Gluttony)
-Sharks/fish (Envy)
-Succubi (Lust)
-Goats (Sloth)
One detail almost everyone misses. When the carnie presses on the pedal to drop the target after Millie shoots...did you notice it fell *forward* instead of back, like it would if it were legitimately hit?
Stolas: "Do you know what i haven't done in a long long time?"
Me: "Your wife?"
So weird to see this when you know where this series drift into.. But one fact: Stella is the worst.
So “Fuck you Dad” could have been improved on Octavia’s part, but it’s worth noting that Helluva boss does take place in the same hell as Hazbin Hotel. Lilith, Charlie’s mom, is some kind of musical artist, and Lucifer, Charlie’s dad, is traditionally known for having biblical daddy issues.
5:03 why did she sound almost exactly like Millie here? 😅
No Spoiler
8:55 same hell ,hazbin focus is on the princes trying to find a way to get the sinners who died and went to hell to heaven. Helluva boss's focus is on an imp born man and mostly his interactions in his day to day business, which deals with sinners who want revenge on someone alive ,other interactions are with hellborn inhabitants mostly.
You can break this worlds version of hell into 2 parts. There's the pride that's the biggest ring and that's were sinners are and trapped. Then there's the other rings that the hell borns live in. Hazbin hotel is gonna focus on exploring the sinners and heaven while helluva boss is focused on exploring the hell born parts of hell
