Imagine calling the cops because a blind kid hurt you and your an adult. That woman must be frail and sad as hell.
I've been really disappointed by the emotional maturity of most adults lately. That or their logical inability to realise how ridiculous it is to load blame on children or less empowered others than themselves for things that clearly, sure, that underempowered person *could* have changed, but they're like the 100th person along the line of people who could have taken up that task.
And I swear to god that that woman insist on being "treated equally" because she is a "strong and independent woman". But only if it is to her advantage otherwise she will pull the "I'm a fragile woman and people have to take care of me!"-card. I'm certain of that. People, especially women, that treat people in weaker positions or with disabilities THAT WAY are the most Karen they will ever get.

When I was a kid people taught me this if you dont wanna be messed with dont mess with people and I'm pretty sure everyone in the world has been taught this by their parents or someone atleast this person is the definition of stupid and so are the other staff members a blind person cannot hurt you with any weapon ever unless you come in physical contact with said blind person

I feel like even if the cameras werent working that should be even more of the schools fault. Lying or not, they should be punished to the max.
@Arst Koben thats why if they push for that it should be even more evidence against the school. And the school should be held accountable and liable for a non-working camera, even if they try to lie.
@@BariBro my old schools usually only had only like 3 out of over 20 cameras working, the cameras were "deterrents" not really cameras. Middle and high schools are shit about security. But to be fair my middle and high schools were in a lower middle class area.
@Arst Koben That was my first thought. I would bet good money that they were just trying to sweep the whole thing under the rug. The abusive and impatient woman (you know the kind of person who should be helping minors with disabilities) must have been screwing the principal or something, because any other place would have just canned her. When an adult throws a tantrum and is impatient with a kid, it signals that they are more immature than the younger person they are there to "help."

The fact that they're treating all disabled people like toddlers are irritating, it's even getting to me. Like why would you do that. When people say they're normal people to, it wasn't meant to be treating them like 5 year olds and be pitiful. Just. Y'know, talk to them like you would any other person
I’m pretty sure how they decided to ignore his request for a single room as well as advanced classes was a red flag that the school was probably not the best idea to attend.
And I mean bloody hell, they are feeding them prison food, having checkups like they are in prison, the staff are either manhandling or out right pushing them from place to place rather then Chauffeuring them to where they want to go on their own schedule.
Good on him to go to that school for self improvement but hells alive that pissed me off more then the condescension I got in school from staff and teachers.
I have high functioning autism, and the fact that when I don’t tell them autistic, they never know if I’m autistic. But when I do tell them, they A, treat me like a child or B they think I’m faking.

Plus like the other person already told you there are different types of blindness. Some people might see nothing at all, others might only see shapes or have blind spots in their view. I twisted my ankle carrying such a backpack in middle school. Honestly they need to give us school tablets instead of books. You can fit an infinite amount of textbooks on a fucking kindle. Time for schools to evolve I mean its fucking 2020...

I have high-functioning autism and I was treated similarly to you in a special school in my childhood. It felt like I was lied to and looked down upon
My brother also has autism, and he's no different from other kids his age other than he's a slower learner, (pus he can be a bit erratic, but he's in 6th grade, so not too out of place) I wish more people would realize how little it really matters.
I luckily wasn't diagnosed with autism until late into my teens, and am incredibly thankful that I didn't have to put up with this behaviour from others. Most people don't even know, and while I'm not ashamed of it, I also prefer that it's not what people in my life think of first when they think about me.
@@Nevernamed I was heavily troubled in learning at a young age(school thought I was either clinically stupid or dyslexic/dyscalculus with behavioural problems), moved to the same school as my childhood best friend and started doing super well. Next 8 years of school I get straight As, eventually having to move schools again.
It's after this I learned I do in fact have learning/executive function difficulties, and I drop back down to D/F. I couldn't say what exactly I have, I just know the symptoms, but to me it's clear that i can operate completely fine in society if the people around me I trust and can rely on to help my shortcomings (because, although I like independence, it's not something I'm totally capable of.)
I can imagine for anyone with any sort of struggle, be it permanent or temporary, physical or mental, it's much the same. It's a shame the world's just not ready to be kind yet.

You know you have it because all of the signs are there, all you do by gong to a specialist and finding out is shoot yourself in the foot. Becase now people will take you less serious, suddently everyone treats you like you are ether Rain man or with pity. Sorry for my english it is not my first language

I get the frustration but most people can't comprehend whats its like and how it works, I personally could see myself asking these dumb questions out of a need to understand and being a sensitive sympathetic person I don't want someone to get hurt and I just try to make sure it's all fine because I hate seeing others get hurt, and plus I would be very confused and have the inability to understand anything about it, basically my brain malfunctions at the thought of trying to understand.

There was once a fight between a teacher and a student in my school, and they pulled the same bullshit as that with saying the “camera didn’t record it” or something like that, and the originally put the student at blame and almost suspended him for like 3 weeks, but then a student came with a cellphone footage of the event and they saw that the teacher was in the wrong (teacher pushed the kid to the ground, he didn’t get any major injuries) and they actually fired the teacher (they were only a substitute so it didn’t really affect anyone)
He seems like such a cool dude, and on top of that I loved his voice
He is amazing. I had a friend who went blind (a genetic disorder or something that gradually got worse) and he reminded me of her.
Someone being treated like less of a person for any reason is among my pet peves, this story makes my grit my teeth.

Oof. As someone on the autism spectrum, the moment he said the school was catered towards autistic students, I knew some shit was gonna happen. Most schools like that treat their students like small, _small_ children even though most autistic people aren't that far behind, and the lack of respect is bad. One of my friends was in a school like that and it was just as bad.

The way schools treat autistic kids is cruel. My friend is on the autism spectrum and is a very smart kid but the title "special ed" is stuck on him so everybody acts like he is incomprehensible.
I was in school top 5% student who then had a helper assigned to me because I wasnt completing work in this class (my 'friend' was deleting my work I found out later). And this woman would go right up in my face and speak so fucking slowly like I was a child. I've never seeked out help before and when I needed it in the future when I went to uni I didn't get help because of that experience. I would recommend however if you need help to seek it out. But fuck people that think autistic people are just children who like to lick windows fuck those guys. Autism covers a wide spectrum of people.
It’s not even exclusive to the specialty schools like that.
I was essentially pinned as “Special Ed” because I was a first generation American and I did not follow the norms of how to be “American” and bullied to the extreme.
So from elementary to high school I was essentially treated like I was mentally deficient because I did not socialize or act the way other students did or how the staff wanted me to.
One egregious time in high school my “Speech” Specialist got really uppity about how I “roll my eyes at her” when all I did was blink and made this huge deal about it.
After that fiasco, made it abundantly clear that I would rather not associate with her further as she was already rather rude to begin with but, she really started to wear down my patience.
Also, she refused to believe Tardigrades exist or as they are colloquially know as, “Water Bears”.
Honestly, the day I went to college I really broke the whole “special Ed” stigma as I did everything you’d expect a student advancing towards a degree would do.
Though if you were to ask my parents they would think That I’m a ticking time bomb waiting for me to fail while any of the “special Ed” teachers probably think I work at McDonald, am some bum on the street that are just waiting to find, or lobotomized in some institution.
It's a serious problem, my friend has a brother with autism who goes to a special needs school. At one point during a zoom class, the autistic brother turned around and said, "all of these kids are retarded!" My friend then said, in typical teasing a sibling fashion "Yeah well why are you in it?" It was a bit amusing, but also sad because it shows how you can't cater to every type of kid. Clearly, my friend's brother is not as mentally challenged as the other children in the class. I have more than one autistic friend, and you wouldn't even think they were autistic. People are really shitty at generalizing all mental disabilities to be the same.

I became blind after a stroke did not even know I was legally blind until I had tests done just felt like something was off. Turns out I have optic nerve damage double vision and only a small fraction of central vision. To be honest you would not even notice much I was panicking for the first month but did not know it was my vision just something felt wrong.
I have the same eyesight issues he does. This really hit home. It’s just a sense of yearning to be normal.
Can you give an analogy on how it seems to you, like how you perceive sight, is it simply just black or blurry or as if you were wearing glasses with water on them

oof, this one hits hard. i'm not blind, but went through a hauntingly similar situation during high school. i was put into an alt-ed program because of my disability, but they didn't really have the funding to sort disabled kids by their level of disability (most public schools don't), so i ended up in a class with other autistic/disabled kids who were .. very, very disabled/low functioning. and i was treated like i had a SERIOUS mental disability despite CLEARLY being pretty ableminded/high functioning. they talked to me very slowly, tried to "guide" me while walking places, all while i was speaking clearly and walking normally, ect ect. it was a VERY demeaning situation, and i started to feel like maybe i was less ablebodied than i actually was because of it. i repeatedly asked to be put back into mainstream classes because of how poorly the staff was treating me, but they continually ignored me, and treated me like i was severely low functioning. it was really crazy, and it was what eventually led to me dropping out of high school. thankfully i never had a situation like james did, but goddamn if this didn't strike a chord with me. excellent video syrmor, keep it up bro.
They did the same thing to my brother cause he went to mental clinics for issues and he was deaf but by no means did it mean he couldn't learn. The teachers in michigan just don't won't to deal with "problematic" students who would take longer to teach or move slower. They think it's a waste of time. I was told I was a mood shifting bipolar and while that didn't always screw me some classes I had to pass on my own with the final exams to make the grades. These schools, if they know your disabled in any way, they will treat you like your a veggy who can sleep walk

It's possible that qualification for special ed isn't just by mental disfunction but mental performance. All you need to do is show a little sign of disorder but if you compound that with not being very smart then your treated like a highly disfunctional person.

Im legally blind too and related to this story a lot! I have a disease called retinitis pigmentosa, that basically means i have no peripheral vision
I use a cane to get around, and have a cane instructer that teaches me about cane techniques and how to move around lmao. When he was talking about the landmark thing i couldnt help but laugh as i go through that too. They pick the stupidest things to use lol
I also totally understood what he meant by people trying to help him or give him sympathy when you dont really need it? Its mostly my parents who do this, so i can barely do anything on my own.

im guessing his disease is stargardt's, where he cannot see where he focus'. my buddy has the same thing, however it came to him a few years ago, and to this day hes frustrated about it. he went into a deep depression for a while and i had to help him out of it. the one thing i know is not to sympathize about it. cracking jokes with him like blind jokes always brighten both of our days.

Omg, I totally get the undermining of disabilities thing. I barely even have a disability, I just have an auditory processing problem and for the longest time I would be sent to the special-ed classes to do tests and work on stuff and they would treat me like I was underdeveloped.
@@BloodInTheStrawberries honestly I was the same way, I was a model student but the moment they condescended to me or acted I was not a competent human being who literally was at the top of their class I would not so subtly pay it back with all the satire and wit a high school student with a guaranteed full ride to college could muster.
My favorite was making my “speech therapist” livid because she believed Tardigrades were fictional and did not exist.
I payed her back by pulling out an extra credit research paper I made for class about them before going into full theatrics about all the microscopic organisms that live on the human body in stomach churning detail.
Regardless to say, I did not meet with them much after that encounter and always associated the smell of bile with their general presence and personality.

That school story can also show you a little bit of how autistic people are treated too, and really disabled people in general. Teachers at a lot of schools just don't treat disabled students with basic human respect. They'd always treat me like I wasn't human, so I would hide that I was disabled, as excrutiatingly difficult as it was. It wasn't just one school either, it was around 6 different schools. I ended up dropping out because I just couldn't go on. No one was going to take my needs into account and also continue respecting me. Ableism is everywhere.

I love this kid. He runs with my little pack of friends. I think i get along with him so well because i also have a disability. Im mostly deaf in one ear so he and i rag on each other all the time. I think its also kinda funny, in our group we have a blind person, a deaf person, and a mute. (See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. The three amigos) But in all honestly he never fails to put a smile on peoples faces and always has interesting stories like this. Glad he got put in the spotlight. With his music and ability to bring out the best in people he certainly deserves it!

I feel your pain, i'm partially sighted, i was actually told by a doctor "recently" that people might mistake me for having something like aspergers because i don't reciprocate facial expressions or look people in the eye for the correct length of time, which just made everything click, all my life about a third of the people i've worked with talk to me like i have a mental disability, instead of you know, asking :/

I remember being labeled as autistic early on (I did not "play with other kids", as far as I was told) so I got sent to "speech classes" by my mom's blessing. The things I remember most were the patronizing lessons. VHS tapes with the most stinted acting (which would never pass for a genuine conversation), flash cards/memory games and basic exercises to say the most stinted introductions. None of them took me seriously when I told them I didn't need it. Not even my mother.
Most of my issues were being left out of the loop culturally and never really getting to have genuine conversations with others until well into adulthood. I had more human communication online with people that didn't know me and that helped bridge the gap.
I understand where he's coming from, essentially. They don't take you seriously, they assume your competence is non-existent. I think those classes did more harm to my social standing than anything else. My incompetency was something else entirely. Between the adults in my childhood treating me like I was mentally disabled and the child-peers mocking me for an element I couldn't even notice at the time, I don't think I really ever had a chance.
Adulthood is better. I get looked down on for not having a good employment record, but I'm not treated like I'm missing a lobe.
I feel that, I think the same issue started when the elementary school staff were getting uppity how I made the play blocks look like spaceships from Star-wars or like Digimon or how I had props on that I forgot was there when acting out scenes with other kids.
They even made a big deal about how I was not playing with other kids even though a majority hated me and bullied me heavily.
Pretty much they convinced my parents I was an invilid who would need all this “special education” and proceed to control every aspect of my school life up until I graduated from High school.
Then I pretty much had autonomy to do whatever I wanted and get top marks in school.
Though it did make me question how I was labeled as needing “Special Ed” when there where right knobheads doing the most academically stupid things imaginable in all the classes I took, hell there were some who should have outright failed middle school that somehow were attending.
I did that same class. But my teacher was actually sweet and didn't treat us awful. We all had a lot of fun. The shit we use to say in their still makes me laugh. I was in it for actual speech problems, but I wouldn't doubt if I have undiagnosed autism of some sort. I remember playing some interesting board game, can't remember. The tapes are embarrassing lol
