    We just did a 10 day Alaska cruise on Crown Princess. While Alaska did not disappoint, Princess did. With the exception of the room stewards, the staff was really not what one would expect. There was not 1 reservation: restaurants, excursions, pre cruise land package, that was not fouled up. The medical staff was a particular issue. My daughter on the very first day woke up with ulcers all over her throat and tongue. During office hours, we went down to get her an appointment. The door is locked, no one answered the bell, repeated knocking and a call from the phone outside the door. I could hear them chatting and laughing on the other side of the door. Finally I called 911 which caused them to open the door. The doctor was completely useless, saying “She will be better in 3 weeks”. At this point I called the doctor in NY. Who said “That’s ridiculous. I will call in a scrip right now in Juneau. She will be better in 24 hours”. To have to get off the ship to get medical treatment is outrageous. Also, on another subject, as all the Princess fleet are identical, I’d like to mention that the various elevator banks do not go to all floors. So there is only 1 bank of 4 elevators (at least 1 out of service at all times) go to the front disembarkation ramp. This lead to a 90 minute line getting off the boat on day 1. My family agrees that the ship and crew get a 65% grade. I strongly advise a different cruise line. Holland America is wonderful. Strangely, they are owned by the same corporation, but suffer none of the problems we encountered on Princess.

      So sorry to hear your issues with the med staff and the other crew on your cruise. If princess wants to position themselves as a premium line, that service needs to be much better than your experience.

      It’s kind of nuts. I agree. Tips should just be included in the base fare. Raise it if need be. Do it once and rip off the bandaid. But the problem is, every line is competitive with each other and they don’t want that initial filter of price to remove them if they include tips and other lines don’t.

    So we are traveling on the regal princess on February 26, the new princess plus takes affect February 20. I can upgrade for $10 a day to the new one that allows you $15 a drink instead of $12 a drink. I am trying to find drink menus that show the price of martinis, wines and bourbons to decide. Do you have any idea on the cost of these?

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  Рік тому

      Unfortunately we can’t find menus with the new pricing for February 20th. Cruise lines never publish them and we are usually reliant on cruisers to share them on social media or website forums to get information out. But if other lines are an indicator the three dollar increase mean you will probably only be able to get drinks that use to be 9 dollars and under. Which is not much. Because everything on the menu will probably receive a 3 dollar bump in pricing.

    Missing info: 1) if one person in a stateroom gets plus does the other person have to get plus as well. What about person 3 or 4? 2) what specifically is the difference between a $12 drink and an $18 drink... for instance, is Johnny walker red a $12 drink and a Macallan 12 sherry cask an $18 drink? How much is a Mai Tai? 3) how do they police against drink sharing... I guess it's pretty obvious. . 4) I suppose wifi can be shared. If I have 2 devices I can "gift" 2 more accesses. You were not clear on that. 5) what is an example of a princess prize? Such a long video for about 5 mins worth of true info. Good math. And good info about 6am to 6am drink counter reset. • @CruiseSeakers

      Policing. Hard but if caught they will discontinue your package with no refund.
      Access can be shared. Just any device connected to one access and another then connects, the original devise gets logged out

      If you like specialty coffees and teas, water bottles, sodas, mocktails, and fresh pressed juices, and cruise usually with WiFi it can still be worth it for you.
      It depends on how you want to cruise. If you can do without the list above, and don’t have a need for WiFi then the value is really not there.
      At basically 35,00 a day, (I subtract the gratuities from the fee because if you don’t buy the package you still have to pay the auto gratuities), the WiFi has a 10.00 value per day, so the drink package is costing you around 25.00 per day. I can easily cover that with non alcoholic drinks a day such as bottled waters, 2 specialty coffees, sodas during lunch and dinner. A fresh pressed OJ in the AM, and maybe a mocktail or 2 during the day.

    Very good video and reassuring. A very quick question, we have the Plus package for our upcoming cruise and will do some speciality dining it is 25 nights!! Do we pay gratuities on speciality dining even though we have a package?

      When you purchase a dining package or Princess plus the gratuities for your dining are included. You will see a line item on the zero bill for additional gratuities. Adding any extra is up to you and 100% discretionary for exemplary service.

      Tip: If there is a particular bar or decl location that you will likely spend more time, tip a few bucks cash every other time you're there and ordering, especially to the same server or bartender. Also: learn and memorize the names of your favorite servers (they have name tags but learn them anyway). Service will get even better, especially when that area is very busy. We ALWAYS do this and we ALWAYS get even better service.

      @@klkruger in hindsight we had no specific bar or location or staff. We did give extra tips to the cabin steward and his accomplice. That is always the case,

    Is the princess plus package usable while you are in port?

      The bars and buffet are open when in port. So you can use it still.

      My wife enjoys champagne, can find any prices that isn’t a Preseco (sp😀) looking for brut that is in drink plus package. Not a cocktail just a simple glass of champagne. Thanks
