    🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In this video we repair the door of our RV, a 1996 Terry by Fleetwood 29 foot travel trailer. The door glass has fallen down causing water to run in the door and rot out the bottom wood. We re-seal the window glass, and build new wood for the bottom of the door and put back the metal trim.

That's the thing about little projects, you just never know what you are getting into. Reminds me of something I heard someone say about 30 years ago. "Every 30 minute project is one broken bolt away from a 3 day ordeal." Glad it went well for you Sam.

If you got inside skin cracks- do this-. . Home depot sells 4x8 fiberglass panels in white or grey textured on one side for @ $45. I just fixed my door yesterday and it took @ 2 hrs. Take door off, remove hardware, 4 screws on bottom and bottom trim. Get couple putty knives and pry off door u shape trim carefully and window trim. Tear off old skin and use as templet for new panel. Cut new panel with circular saw and jig saw. Put back together carefully and use wood block and hammer to set trim over edges. Better than new! Now solid 3/32's thick.

This reminds me of times my Dad fixed our camper. There is a certain amount of "pride of ownership" when you invest in making or fixing up your belongings. It's a good thing- Stewardship. God bless you all.

I love watching you two. So, so happy for you and your new homestead. I have watched all of our videos and I keep telling my husband..."Sam does it this way or that's not how Sam does it....We have gutted and rebuilt 3 trailers so I guess his way must work too. We also moved to Tennessee...Cookeville, TN...we were there for 10 months. Wages were a lot less then we were used to and the work was heavier. I miss the fire Flys and lightening storms... keep up the good work kids...catch you later

My way of taking off camper doors and mobile home doors is by using blocks that come up to the bottom of the door to lay bottom of door on,same as putting door back on its hinges, because i only have 2 hands lol😉,and nice job on repairing the door👍😊...

Happy to help! My other suggestion would be to allow your sealant plenty of time to cure or it may slide down again once the door is installed. If you can't let it cure long enough, and for extra insurance while it does cure, add some tape from the glass and up and over the door. It will act as straps to hold things in place and fight gravity until it all sets up. At the end of this video you can see some tape on the inside of the door for that exact reason with ours. :)

  • @Old_Man_Pete

Easy way to remember which way the window mould goes, if it has screw holes then it's the inside otherwise untrustworthy poeple can just unscrew the window from the outside.

think you could paint the plastic with rubberized paint (like bedliner) and it will protect the plastic from the UV radiation and might even turn it a little more flexible again
might had been a good idea to put a good fitting block of wood in the window opening under the glass to at least support it and prevent it from dropping down again
